Top 10 Metal Cover Songs with the Best Vocals
A good cover is when all components are done properly. But this list focuses only on the vocals where the cover band/team provided vocals at a level comparable to the original. The most difficult covers vocal-wise are when:
1) the original song is hard to sing
2) the original singer/vocal performance is great
3) the original singer's got a very distinctive voice - tone, power, range
By Metal Cover Songs I mean covers made by metal bands. The original songs can be from any genre.
A perfect Aerosmith cover.
Dream On is my favorite Aerosmith song and it's hard to sing but I admit Dio nailed the vocals.
Incredible Dio cover. Great job by Hansi Kürsch.
Thanks to this cover I realized that among the metal singers, Hansi voice is naturally the closest possible to Dio's.
In his original songs Hansi uses different vocal techniques and doesn't sound like Dio but Dio and Hansi have absolutely the same vocal range and voice type - both are high baritones.
Awesome Rainbow/Dio cover. This is the most aggressive metal song of the 70s.
All Jorn covers are great vocal-wise but here his voice sounds so close to Dio voice.
This Megadeth song isn't hard to sing but Paul Di'Anno vocals are better than the original and that was the reason to put this cover relatively high.
Paul Di'Anno was Iron Maiden's lead singer before Bruce Dickinson.
Mark Boals nailed the vocals although it isn't easy for a male to sing an ABBA song. Moreover, metal style.
Amazing Celtic Frost cover.
This list needed a cover with unclean vocals and who would do it better than Mikael Åkerfeldt?
The best Deep Purple cover EVER vocal-wise and one of the best covers in general.
Iron Maiden cover. Vox - Tim "Ripper" Owens.
Tim "Ripper" Owens got overhated for no good reason - in fact, he's a great singer.
Uriah Heep cover.
The original singer David Byron was a vocal beast, so is the guy who sang the cover (Ralf Scheepers)
Awesome UFO cover
Deep Purple cover with vox by Bruce Dickinson
The Sweet cover (Biff Byford of Saxon has always been a great singer, even now when he's probably in his 60s-70s)
Another Deep Purple cover with amazing vocals by Jorn Lande
