Best Metal Songs of the 70s
Well I'm a more of hard rock fan than metal. But I also listen some metal songs. But most often I listen to metal songs of 80s or 90s by Iron Maiden or Metallica.
So it was quite difficult for me to choose 70s metal music.
Please add more if I miss something
This is one of the first metal songs, early speed metal. It's clasically inspired (based on Bach scales) and its solo was the first true metal solo. It's not hard rock - hard rock is blues inspired.
Great drive, fantastic keyboard, great drums, one of the best guitar solos ever.
It's hard rock.
A 100% metal song. Epic masterpiece from Ritchie Blackmore and Dio (1976).
This is a great song but it's actually blues rock - a bit heavier blues rock but still blues elements are too noticeable. Yet, their song Beyond The Realms Of Death is metal as well as some others.
Whiskey woman don't you know you're driving me insane? One of the best songs from one of the best albums of the 70s.
One of the greatest metal songs I know. Excellent. Chills up and down my spine.
Epic yet very fast song with the most impressive metal guitar solo of the 70s (Ritchie Blackmore). The solo is long, fast, technical and melodic.
It's not a metal song in the strict sense. Just saying.
Though it may not be metal to some people but this song is heavier than many hard rock songs and it's close to the heavy metal.Especially the the opening riff
The song that began metal!
@zxm - many parts of the wiki articles on metal are awful. Viking metal is very close to black metal. This is correct: "Viking metal is a style of heavy metal music with origins in black metal and Nordic folk music".
So how is Immigrant Song close to black metal/viking metal? I am not even sure this song is metal.
I used to think wikipedia is always right. But now I think they are not always not right
Wikipedia says it's viking metal
