The Contenders: Page 3
The first song I heard this song I smashed a vase, rolled around in the glass, poured hot sauce into the wounds, picked up a hammer and started breaking random things in my house, set my house on fire, and then burrowed to the center of the Earth and destroyed it because this song made me feel like I had so much power. - Duality
SONG (blind by korn is sweet as well)
A lot of Slipknot's lyrics are about duality itself. It used to irritate me but they have almost perfected it now.
Don't have an interest in Slipknot but I like this song - frankmartinV 5 Comments
This song deserves way more recognition than it gets. Dio gives one of his greatest vocal performances ever, especially towards the end of the song. So much emotion, you can practically feel the rage with each word coming from your speakers. Ritchie Blackmore also came up with an excellent riff for this one, the drum solo at the beginning rocks, and the synthy sound effects build an intense atmosphere. You can feel the desperation of the people building a stone tower to fulfill one man's dream.
The birth of symphonic metal. Simply epic, R.I.P. dio
The most epic 8 minutes my ears ever heard. Iron Maiden (my top band) can't match this greatness.
Just the creators of melodic metal and the biggest influence to powet metal. Just awesome, the combination of dio and ritchie blackmore is spectacular.V 5 Comments
Iron Maiden fans are too busy on page 1 trying to dethrone the Masters and didn't bother to work for it. Classic Iron Maiden.
What. The. Heck. You're telling me that run to the hills is 71. That is just garbage. Maiden is the best metal band and the fact that Slipknot's garbage is ahead of it is malarkey.
It was a number 1 hit on charts around the globe. Iron Maiden paradoxically sold out by writing their best album. Gold.
This Song Deserves To Be At Least in Top 5
I Can't Stop listen To This
Total kick ass song. And it has a great meaning behind it. I think the only reason this is not in the top ten is nobody has listened to it because its so long. - fireinside96
It is indeed one of Dream Theater's best songs, because it is literally progressive metal, rather than the progressive rock of the late 60's that makes me a bit ambivalent about them. Hey, each to their own. Now where's Ride The Lightning...
This is BY FAR the best METAL song I've ever heard! - moose4life19
Too good to be only "music"V 12 Comments
I expected this in the top 10, this is better than Chop Suey, if you really care about cliff talent vote this up
But it don, t seems like someones care
WHAT THE HELL THIS SHOULD BE 1ST I CAN'T THINK OF IT AT 48
PLEASE VOTE FOR THIS GREAT 80'S SONG THE BEST
Why is this the 40th? For Whom the Bell Tolls should be #1, not Master of Puppets. Master of Puppets is overrated. (And so is Enter Sandman) For Whom the Bell Tolls is by far better than Master of Puppets. For whom the bell tolls has an awesome guitar tone, amazing bass, great drums, and badass vocals! Metallica is the best!
Glorious.V 21 Comments
Tremendous opener to a tremendous album. The riffs held within are staggering, and Terry Date was the business. Pantera nailed this album.
This is Metal
This song is the reason I LOVE metal! So cocky, and it explodes at the end. Deserves a higher spot!
I'll admit, there's better songs than this on the list, but come on! Lamb of God slays balls on this song! Oh and for the love of metal, Bullet For My Valentine are NOT THRASH! Grow some balls and listen to proper metal
Not my favorite lamb song but they deserve higher spot
Are you kidding me this should have been 1st
41? Come on log fans... And what a7x is doing in this list on top?V 4 Comments
I have the 'Alive In Athens' dvd, and though they've kind of disowned the dvd, Jon is stark bonkers on this thrash version of Rime Of The Ancient Mariner. He's a big Maiden fan.
Something about Iced Earth makes me proud of Metal. They should be all over this list.
Yeah, it's a thrash epic.
It is Ryme of the Ancient Mariner - but thrash. Love it.V 1 Comment
This song should be in the top ten! So powerful cover! One of the best songs ever!
Come on people... can't you remember the 90's and early 2000?! When Marilyn Manson was the first name in Metal, how can everybody forget him?!
That sounds good. Really good

This song is pure genius, though this song isn't a very difficult song it is a very complex and difficult to learn song because of the length, arrangements, and frequent time signature changes.
IT is a song so brilliantly put together by musical geniuses.
The bass adds so much to the song, one of the greatest bass licks of all time.
The guitar adds a strange but great feel to the song with long drawn out notes.
The Drums really show of the drummers skill and have a very unique style and sound.
Overall its a grandmaster piece!
I saw this list and i couldn't believe there was no Tool. Maynard is awesome in everything he does. The man is a genious.
Tool is amazing one of the best rock bands of the 90's opiate was epic
A masterpiece brilliantV 6 Comments
Classic song and classic album - the evolution of Dio culminated on this one I guess, epic riffs, vocals and lyrics
56? This song is legend, inspiring so many other metal musics. Epic riffs, solo, vocals, drum, lyrics, etc. And what can I say is this list is broken...
This song should be n. 1 cause it's really different than others
Should be top 10. This is an insult to metal fans.V 3 Comments
Superb song by one of the most underrated bands in the whole metal scene.
Great song. Nice intro transition.V 2 Comments
This song not only talks about the themes of domestic abuse, but the dark side of humanity. How we are a species that cannot control anger, violence, and sadism. How humans are always torturing each other but still having hope in humanity. Now I'm sure that's not what they intended the song to be but that doesn't mean I should express my feelings. We're all free to share our opinions and develop new and fantastic ideas that can help us evolve and create a better future. Furthermore, amazing song. Five stars.
oh come on guys, for god sakes, this should be #1, not down, and what the so unique in metallica to be always #1, ya they r cool but not the best.
If Metallica absolutely sucks then you have inadvertently deemed Disturbed and every other metal band as worse, because Metallica have already been deemed the greatest metal band of all time - 35-years ago.
As the individual at the top points out, let's get down with the sickness. It is well put, but I'd go one further and state that the message is intentional. Metal with brains rules!V 5 Comments
This song beats down all of the above!
Battery at 33, Battery at 2, Battery at 100 simply makes no difference. It is already one of the greatest thrash tracks ever written, and the folk running this thread have the unenviable task of making Metallica's 50 great tracks fit somewhere. I think Dyers Eve is better, but that's in the 400's. Lol.
Great song of album master of puppets... Its my favourite song I like its starting very much and this song deserve number 1 position... With some Metallica songs like the day that never comes, one... Metallica forever...
It's the fastest, greatest and epicest metal song ever! m/ First it's slowly and calmly but then it's like lightnings and earthquakes shaking world - DisturbedpotatoV 6 Comments
The solo. That solo. And the outro too. The song's not bad either...
Seriously though, it's the perfect metal song, it's heavy when it needs to be, it's melodic, it's got good lyrics, and it's got that solo.
Come to think of it, I wasn't travelling too well myself when I saw them. Too much black tooth grin.
One of the best songs from one of Pantera's less inspired albums.
Yes, the thunderstorm and all that is good. I just don't know they mean anything. I saw them live an Anselmo was off his face. Dunno.
2 Sabbath albums inside the top ten now.V 1 Comment
The song is one of the first songs I heard by KoRn, but its also what got me into metal. I was 5 when I heard this for the first time and have been into metal since.
This song got me into metal so for me at least it is the greatest Metal song. - 6Broken6Mirror6
Fair enough. I like them, I just dick around and throw some curveballs. I like Issues. Very heavy.V 3 Comments
While not my all time favorite metal song (Holy Wars the Punishment by Megadeth is), I voted for it because Death deserves to have either this or Crystal Mountain in the top 10.
I can't believe no one else has added a death song that is sickening
Don't apologise. I vote for 50 great songs if time permits, and I just did this one. Classic Death.
Oh hey, I finally found a good song on this list!
Should be renamed "overrated metal songs"
The song that makes me remember how the world is supposed to be. The world is naturally dark.
Disturbed is GoD and this song prooves it.
How is this not in the top 10 would be my number 1 definitely. two awesome guitar riffs simple but awesome bass line sick as drum beat and passionate vocals, just plain awesome
If you were around for the anti-establishment of Punk you would have heard all of this angst many times over. If not, then fair enough.
57!? This should easily be in the top ten - it's a great song by a great band.
Gotta be.V 5 Comments
