Metal/Tock Albums that Get Way Too Much Praise/Hype

The Top Ten

1 Ride the Lightning - Metallica

I disagree - this album gets praise but it deserves the praise. I guess this list isn't about albums that deserve the praise so this album shouldn't be on this list at all. - Metal_Treasure

I know some people who love this album, and bash on every other Metallica album, but for the majority of fans, I guess that makes sense. - awesomedp900

I agree, they’ve done better. Also was this list’s title inspired by mine about bands?

2 Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? - Megadeth
3 Reign In Blood - Slayer

This album is extraordinarily repetitive.

Much of the emerging death metal was based on this album so I disagree. Even in death metal and thrash songs released in 2017-2018 you can hear elements from this album. Variations of the riff to Raining Blood are everywhere in metal, in all subgenres.
The fact that most of the metal musicians from all subgenres used this album as an inspiration makes the album one of the most influential metal albums of all time (no matter what you think about this album as a metal fan or a metal hater). - Metal_Treasure

4 Hail to the King - Avenged Sevenfold

Is this meant to be metal/rock albums?

This is one of their most hated albums. City of Evil would've been a better choice honestly - cjWriter1997

Overrated album, not at all their best work. - RustyNail

I agree with this, 100% - Metal_Treasure

5 Octavarium - Dream Theater

Somewhat agree but not entirely - Metal_Treasure

I disagree

6 Black Album - Metallica
7 Rust In Peace - Megadeth

It's true. I would consider this album as overrated - styLIShT

8 Among the Living - Anthrax
9 Lateralus - Tool
10 Master of Puppets - Metallica
