Best Metal Vocalist Replacements

When a Metal frontman leaves, its hard to find a good replacement. Vote for the frontman replacements that worked out the best.
The Top Ten
1 Iron Maiden (Bruce Dickinson replaces Paul Di'Anno)

Reply to Ryan: "Who knows how far Maiden would have gotten if Bruce never joined".
I know the answer - not far, East London max. Haha, Paul was fired because he didn't want to tour/travel!
And it was when Iron Maiden were cracking the mainstream and were asked to tour the world. Some other reasons were Paul's drug/alcohol problems, combined with violence problems, but refusing to tour was the crucial element. I like his voice though.
Ironically, later Paul left the UK and has been living in Brazil for many years.

Who knows how far Maiden would have gotten if Bruce never joined

2 Pantera (Phil Anselmo replaces Terry Glaze)

To me this is the most significant replacement, with a long-term influence on the band career and metal in general - thanks to that they invented a cool metal subgenre (groove metal). Yes, Phil Anselmo was the driving force of this genre change. Uncle Phil rocks!

Pantera was a really bad Glam band before Phil showed up. He turned them from a really bad band into one of the best ever.

This should be number 1, as some singers (such as paul di'anno) were still brilliant.

3 Cannibal Corpse (Corpsegrinder replaces Chris Barnes)

At least 90% of Cannibal Corpse fans agree that Corpsegrinder is much better than Banres, from vocals to stage presence.

@billyv there is no source, just most cc fans I've talked to prefer Corpsegrinder

4 Black Sabbath (Ronnie James Dio replaces Ozzy Osbourne)

The 2 most legendary frontmen in Metal history. As good as Dio is, he didn't fit the Dark Sabbath theme very well, but he released some killer albums with sabbath.

5 Anthrax (Joey Belladonna replaces Neil Turbin)

Joey joined Anthrax after their debut album, and turned them into a legendary Big 4 band!

6 Helloween (Andi Deris replaces Michael Kiske)

Michael Kiske is probably the most talented vocalist in Metal, and when he left Helloween, they unbelievably found a vocalist who is almost as good as he is. They replaced the best power metal vocalist with one of the best power metal vocalists.

7 Helloween (Michael Kiske replaces Kai Hansen)

Kai Hansen decided he couldn't sing and play guitar at the same time, so the band found an even better singer: Michael Kiske

8 Arch Enemy (Angela Gossow replaces Johan Liiva)

Yep, Arch Enemy went from male to female as vocalist.

9 Iced Earth (Matt Barlow replaces John Greely)

John Greely wasn't a bad singer but Matt Barlow is Oh My God - Iced Earth discovered one of the top 10 metal singers of all time (Matt was a policeman before that). Matt's voice is probably the most powerful/loud clean voice in metal - he can compete with opera singers. And his voice is easily recognizable - very unique tone full of emotion, and overall - amazing.

10 Candlemass (Messiah Marcolin replaces Johan Längquist)

Lämgquist left Candlemass after their legendary debut album, 'Epicus Doomicus Metallicus', and he proved himself to be a perfect replacement and one of the best Doom Metal frontmen ever

They released the most legendary Doom Metal album (epicus doomicus metallicus) and then the frontman leaves. Messiah was the perfect replacement

The Contenders
11 Dream Theater (James LaBrie replaces Charlie Dominici)

The clearest, sweetest, strongest voice with an octave range unrivalled by any other rock singer I have heard. The opera training paid off. James LaBrie played a huge role in bringing Dream Theater to the level of popularity and success it enjoys today.

Dominici wasn't bad. When Dream and Day Unite is a decent album. But he wasn't right for the band overall. But check out his solo work! THAT is better than Labrie's.

Dream Theater fired Dominici cause he wasn't talented, and LaBrie auditioned, won, and now he's a legend
