Top 10 Metal Songs with Religious References
Hell is one of the most important Christian concepts.
The Four Horsemen (of the Apocalypse) is a concept in the Christian Bible - The Four Horsemen are a group of mythical riders that ride out on white, red, black, and pale horses. The Four Horsemen are symbolic descriptions of different events which will take place in the end times.
There are 2 opposite interpretations both related to Christianity:
1) "Holy Diver" is Jesus Christ descending into Hades, the realm of the wicked not the holy. "You've been down too long in the midnight sea". Midnight sea is Hades, the absence of God, God is light so this place is void of it.
2) The song is about Satan, and his descent to Hell (his "dive"). The lyrics deal specifically with Revelations 12:9 where Satan was cast to the earth. The tiger is symbolic of the wild beast that comes out of the sea, as mentioned in Revelations 13:1.
The lamb, the rose, they don't exist
The grail's in pieces
All the bliss is gone
The rose has dried out
And the lamb got slaughtered long ago
The hope became another lie
Like the nonexisting Father God
Golgotha - had seen nothing else but
A carpenter's death
Golgotha - not more maybe not even that
One of heaviest black metal songs.

We were the prisoners of our own fantasy
But now we are marching against these gods
I'm the wizard, I'll change it all"
The Holy Ghost can't save you anymore
Your souls are condemned to burn in hell
Damned for all time
So spoke the noble one
He convinced us all
He is a gifted man
Though he will slaughter in the name of Christ
It is based on the final days of Jesus of Nazareth and his temptation in the desert.
