Top Ten Most Misunderstood AnimalsSo many animals have been given a bad name by human culture and it's all mindless and unfair. These are the ones who have been given the worst name.
I have mentioned this in another list, but yeah, sharks are seriously misunderstood. It is probably down to film portrayals, their appearance and perhaps their attitude towards their offspring in most species, but most people probably only consider the last two because they compare them to humans (I don't know whether this is true, I'm just guessing).
I hate it how so many people are so scared of them. Most of them do no harm. It's hard enough to even see one, never mind encountering them. Some species don't even have teeth! More people harm sharks than the other way round! People need to stop hating sharks!
I hear it all the time.
Save the turtles! And not the sharks because they eat people!
Sharks only attack if they think you're prey, or if they think your harmful, and it juat depends on the shark. But sharks are just really big fish, they don't mean to harm us
From what I heard from beach guards in Egypt, sharks only attack you if you're bleeding or if they think you're weak or dead. So if a shark hits you slightly, and you've tensed your muscles and you're firm to touch, it's most likely to swim away.
*Sigh...* Wolves still are misunderstood, but for a different reason as before... Wolfaboos, listen up. Wolves.Are.Not.Endangered. Some are, like the Ethiopian Wolf, or the Red Wolf, but the grey wolf, the one most think about, is of least concern and it's numbers are steady. They also don't have this crazy complex pack order, there are the two alphas that are the parents of the pack. They aren't some god creature, they are simply animals. Also, a Kangal could absolutely demolish a healthy wolf, just getting that out there.
As much as I think wolves are likeable, I rather see a wolf as a villain instead of a hyena as a villain. At least wolves had a few positive portrayals in modern media. Hyenas, on the other hand, are still vilified to this day.
And some believe that the domestic dog has descended from wolves. (Maybe not from the modern gray wolf, but from some extinct wolf species that once roamed Europe according from what I have read. Correct me if I'm wrong)
I think wolves should be the most misunderstood animal because they really are harmless, wolves are actually afraid of humans and would rather stay away from human habitats. They of corse are going to raid farms because if chickens pigs cows and sheep are all there is to eat then wolves will have to steal food from farms I mean they have to eat!
Actually wolves are the bad guys in stories for a reason. Wolves are dangerous creatures and as intelligent as they are they can kill a human. I love wolves and they are one of my favorite animals but they aren't as misunderstood as people think. Like I said they are dangerous and it is best to keep your distance from one.
Why do gorillas represent violence? I mean, they are very gentle and rarely start violence, when they pound their chest it's to seem tough, but they don't want to fight. Watch the YouTube video "KoKo the gorrila cries over loss of kitten"
Watch the planet of the apes and you wil understand
Gorillas are people too
These guys are cool.
It's actually racist, black cats are bad luck but not the white ones, like in colonial times black people were slaves but not the white ones. The superstition originated from witchcraft. Now, do you believe in witch craft? Because it doesn't exist. People are too superstitious and now cats have to suffer and not get adopted. When I am older, you wanna know what I'm going to do? Adopt a black cat, and I'm going to be proud of it. I love them, they look so sleek and elegant! Why black always represents evil I don't know, it's mystery and deepness. I wish that black cat superstition would die in flames, black cats were burned. Imagine you are walking down the street and some bigoted ignorant fools were like, "LOOK! THEY ARE A CERTAIN COLOR THEY MUST BE EVIL! " And throw you into a fire. Then people (like my dad) tries to run them over. I get so mad when my dad tries to do stuff like that! And now they get put to sleep. If you are racist against black cats I hope when you wake ...more
Not many people are still as superstitious, and black cats are just as popular as pets as any other colour of cat. It isn't racism as a certain colour of cat is not a race. Also, don't wish that kind of fate on anyone, especially if their only 'crime' is being superstitious.
This is not true! I have walked past a black cat plenty of times if one happened to be passing by and nothing bad happened afterwards! Black cats are like all other cats and do not deserve this reputation because of a superstition!
The superstition has nothing to do with a race of people. Black has other meanings that have nothing at all to do with race or connotations toward people. Everything is Not about the race card - geez
Pigs are misunderstood for their dumbness when they are actually very smart. People usually look at the pigs as dumb, dirty, and dumb. They are kept as pets in some parts of the country. They love human attention and are trainible.
Pigs are really smart, despite not being able to look up all the way. They are nice, and cute. Lots of people simply see pigs as smelly, dirty, rotten creatures. Those people are heartless!
Both the piglets and the adults are the cutest animals I can think of. Lazing around, rolling in mud and not caring what people think of them somehow makes them more so.
Pigs are so cute! They can't look up all the way, but they're intelligent little creatures! In fact, the book Charlotte's Web made me love pigs even more!
WHY ARE THEY SO LOW?!?! below wolves, really? Wolves aren't misunderstood, they are overrated, snakes on the other hand, they have it rough. 1. Boa constrictors (namely the Bcc and the Bci) can not kill you. There was a single report of a boa killing somebody, but all the rest are caused by Burmese pythons, retics, African rock pythons. Or anacondas. And even then, it is the owner's fault for not reading the snake's body language. 2. They do NOT size you up and starve themselves to eat you. Snakes are opportunistic eaters, they will not wait until "They have enough room to eat you", and most snakes can't eat you anyway, a Burmese Python might try, but even they (love them, by the way), would have a hard time and will likely not be big enough. 3. BLACK MAMBAS DON'T CHASE PEOPLE FOR NO REASON! No snake attacks without reason, black mambas tend to be timid snakes, but they are territorial, and when they do attack, they tend to attack with more ferocity. So, as you can see, ...more
Snakes are amazing animals and are highly under estimated and are considered as "evil" and "devilish" but really, a snake is just like you and me, a living creature with thoughts and feelings. Not to mention they make brilliant pets. (Not the venomous one star of corse! ) Snakes are amazing and people also think they are ugly and slimy. You will be surprised to hold one, they have smooth scales and they are beutiful creatures, not ugly. Mammals are not the only animals that are "cute" all animals are brilliant and unique in their own way. And snakes, are one of the most greatest animals on earth. And snakes do not bite, unless if they think they are being harmed. They don't care about harming humans! They are the same as any other animal!
I see why people think snakes are dangerous. They can be fatal in one bite and eat their pray whole, I think that's a bit scary. But saying they are all mini versions of the devil or are all evil is just childish. You can say that dogs slobber, because it's a proven physical trait, not a personality one. Imagine if every human had the same personality, well, we are saying that is true to snakes. I love how cunning and fast they are, but they aren't mean. I had a pet snake that escaped a lot that was very active but not evil. Saying snakes are evil without even owning one is just childish, so please stop.
Snakes have been seen as a symbol of "evil" for quite a long time. That needs to come to an end. People need to understand that snakes have no evil in them, just like every other living creature. Actually, many people see then as quite cute with tons of personallity. As a persen who is experienced with snakes I can tell you that this is completely ture. Don't be afraid. Just have respect for snakes like you would have for any othere living creature.
It's all The Lion King's fault that hyenas have gotten such a horrible reputation and I thought the old folk stories of the past had it bad enough. Hyenas are often mistaken as henchmen or a species exclusive to the villain side because of this movie. For a change, I rather see a good guy/gal that is a hyena instead of another villain that's one. In reality, hyenas are intelligent and excellent hunters who hunt their own prey most of the time and it's usually the lions who scavenge from hyenas more often than the other way around (No offense to lion lovers, just telling the truth).
You know what is sad? Some people actually defend the bad reputation of hyenas, saying stuff like "they make good villains", or "hyena biologists are acting ridiculous", or "we must follow folk traditions since the 'evil hyena' stereotype has been used before so it must be kept being used again and again for generations" or other crud I don't care about. I know fiction is fiction, but The Lion King has been a horrible influence on peoples' views on the animals. Fans of the bad hyenas in The Lion King and The Lion Guard are not true hyena lovers.
Before anyone says that they're stupid, smelly dogs, I have somethings to teach you:
1. They're not stupid! Spotted hyenas have teamwork skills that rival primates and they can help each other solve problems without whooping a thing! So yeah, I already proved that a hyena most likely has an IQ higher than a hyena hater!
2. They're not smelly!...ok u got me, but to hyenas that's the none verbal way they distinguish who is who, while we standing primates need to know each other's names to identify each other!
3. They're not dogs! They're more related to meerkats and mongooses, and similar niches can cause similar traits, so remember: just because it looks like a dog, doesn't make it a canid!
I am a Hyena Lover and I have to say, Hyena Biologists ARE acting ridiculous (not defending The Lion King, just saying). Also you people provide no evidence that Lions scavenge from Hyenas. I personally don't think either scavenge from each other. Are you gonna say that we should hunt Lions as "revenge" from scavenging from Hyenas?! Hell no! You people are messed up and don't know anything about the ecosystem!
Bats are awesome but they are always associated with creepiness especially on Halloween where it's now totally okay to think of bats as creepy blood-sucking vampires when most bats eat fruit and even mosquitos! Only some bats drink blood but they are not monsters!
Bats are always associates with creepiness. They actually have a network of family and friends and a good social life. When they can have a social life, they are smart.
Like spiders, most think bats as 'scary' but they're actually beneficial to the ecosystem by preying on harmful insects. Some bats also eat fruit.
They actually have good eyesight. They just use echo location for hunting small bugs and such.
Mice are not dirty little rodents, they are actually intelligent. No one is too small to matter, they are natural students who excel at learning and understanding concepts, they have excellent memories, once rats learn a navigation route, they never forget it. Mice and rats are also highly social animals. They become attached to each other, love their own families, and easily bond with their human guardians. They make sounds similar to giggling when having fun. But who cares about rats and mice, right?
I never understood people's deal with rodents, including mice and rats. It's the feral mice/rats that carry diseases and I honestly don't see what people think is so "scary" about them. I have no problem with them.
They are actually really cute, and mostly harmless, I once saves a mouse.
Mice are actually some of the world's most intelligent species.
Meerkats are getting killed by Eagles and we need to help
they're more afraid of you than you think, biting and jumping is just self defense. I mean what would you do if some HUGE creature came towards you?
Honestly, there is nothing dangerous about them, unless you saw, say, a tarantula or a black widow. They protect your homes from other, more harmful insects, and you repay them by killing and fearing them. Another reason the human race is stupider than spiders.
Sorry I'm a HUGE arachnophob if I even see a spider I will not go into the room I saw it in. and having a brown recluse drop from the ceiling onto my face... that didn't help my case. There's nothing wrong with spiders and they keep the bug population down but If I see a spider in my house sorry it's gonna get squashed
I think spiders are pretty cool and some are actually harmless. They're useful because they prey on nasty, harmful insects like mosquitos and flies that carry disease. If it weren't for spiders, then we would have a problem.
They're mistaken as cowardly scavengers when they're actually very brave when feeding on a carcass and also hunt prey much larger than they are.
Why do people portray them as weak and cowardly! They can rip an animal up in seconds! Not so cowardly now huh!
Vultures stop black death , tuberculosis, anthrax and rabies.but they dropped by 99 percent in India in 20 years because of a drug in cattle and we're are still being neglected by popular culture and shown as evil villains or goofy
Check in Google for vulture animations and compare their negativity with other birds
Cute vultre I love you
Some people think Possums are ugly and mean. They are SO not ugly. They are really nice, don't chase or attack your pets, and their not mean I will say that again. When they are only in trouble they hiss, drool, try to look tough, and show their teeth. Their only protecting themselves. Don't be mean to them and say their ugly.
They make transcendent pets.
How are lions, cattle, and white tigers misunderstood? Not hating, just asking.
People think they are just birds that repeat what we say, they are wrong!
I can't believe it when people said bears are evil. What did they do to you? They did NOTHING. They were just being protective of their kids! What's so bad about that? What if YOU had a kid, somebody suddenly comes over and chops your head off thus kidnapping your kids and antagonizing you until your species went threatened? Wow...
Bears are beautiful and not savage. Hunting provokes bears and seeking them out can of course make them feel threatened and make them attack. And yes, hunting is wrong. People once used it only when they needed fur and meat, but as a sport it is disgusting to take something's life just for a cruel 'sport'.
Don't go trying to mess with bears they are very teritorial but they are constantly being killed for sport by the horrendous thing called HUNTING! They are not all bad, if someone you didn't know came in your house and started touching your kids, wouldn't you be pissed?
Yogi, Boo-Boo, Teddy... Etc
Really? They aren't misunderstood. I get that some of them are nice but a vast part of them are not. Call it stereotype, but it's true. One attacked this harmless cute little west I.e. At the dog park and really hurt it. The little waste was so happy, trotting around and smiling. Then a nasty pit bull went charging after it and pounced on it and the good natured west is was so petrified and hurt he couldn't stop him. I will never look at one the same again. I think they are cute and all, and I'm sure there are very nice ones out there, but you have to admit that a lot of them will attack. Way more than any other dog breed. I don't think they are misunderstood, I just think they are untrustworthy. 'enough said.
Pitbulls have a bad reputation because of dog fighting. Dog fighting is a cruel, illegal and unacceptable act which I think should be banned. (And Pitbulls aren't the only dog fighting breed. The English Mastiff, Cane Corso and Tosa Inu were also used for dog fighting, yet their incidents aren't as well known and their reputations aren't as bad. Either way, I still think dog fighting gives any dog a bad name) Although it's usually the irresponsible owners that are bad rather than the dogs themselves, I still think Pitbulls are more untrustworthy than misunderstood. You just don't want to mess with them. (unless you really want to)
Many people think that pitbulls are vicious, but their not! It's dog fighting that gave them a bad reputation. I used to have a pet pitbull, and she was really nice. The worst thing she's ever done was fight another dog over food, but that was one time. Pitbulls are nice and cute and amazing and awesome. I love them.
A dog's aggression (if it is aggressive) isn't because of its breed, it's because of the way it was raised. If a dog is beaten and/or taught to attack people, that is what it will do because that is what it knows. If it is taught to be lovable, that is what it will be.
Did you guys know that there is no law against performing experiments on rats, no matter how painful? Let's say I wanted to cut off a bunch of rats' heads to see how long it took them to die. No law against it. They are just as cute as other rodents like hamsters and Guinea pigs. Rats are way smarter than them, too. You say they're dirty? You would stink too if you lived in sewers. Why do they live in sewers, you might ask. It's because they have nowhere else to go. Cities are to big for people to walk across, imagine how it is for rats! Rats are the only animal besides humans that have been known to laugh (for the right reason). The Bubonic Plague was caused by fleas, not rats. The fleas simply bit the rats. Then the rats bit the humans that were trying to exterminate them.
I also blame executive meddling for trying to make rats the evil version of mice. In fact, if a story or such happens to feature either a heroic rat or a villainous mouse, someone might want to change it to fit the old, outdated and ridiculous stereotype. Remember Chuck E. Cheese? He was originally a rat but was changed to a mouse in the later years. Or how about the Mouse King villain in The Nutcracker? Andrey Konchalovskiy changed him into the "Rat King" in his feature film version of the story because he could not accept a mouse as a villain due to Mickey Mouse's popularity and iconic status. I find that to be ridiculous. Artists and such should be able to have the freedom to design whatever characters they want without someone having to change it for them.
I have no problem with rats. I even took care of couple rats for one of my old teachers one summer. Rats actually make good pets and it's the feral ones that carry diseases. And I don't see what people think is so scary about them. I honestly don't get everyone's deal with rats/mice. They don't deserve the hate they get.
Vote rat. More misunderstood than mice. Everyone loves mice and makes them heroes all the time. But everyone hates on and bullies and abuses rats. Rats actually are better pets,
Don't get me wrong I like mice, I just don't see how everyone loves and praises them and bullies and abuses and tortures rats.
Poor porcupines no one likes them, they don't try to prick you, Derek Small, the director of Wildlife Encounters Zoo says that this is not true. A porcupine cannot shoot its poisonous quills, but it can definitely release them into the face of some animal that starts sniffing it a little too close.
I love porcupines! They are so cute and their quills are only there to defend them against predators who want to eat them!
If you saw a sad-looking porcupine in the street holding a sign saying, "Free hugs", would you hug it?
Also, the furry fandom portrays these poor creatures as sex symbols, which is wrong since they're not sex symbols and should never be.
Foxes are beautiful. Have you ever made eye contact with a fox? It feels amazing. How can you not love foxes?
Yes. They are my favorite animal. We as them as livestock killers but fox hunters kill the more brutally
Why do people portray them as sly animals! They also may kill livestock BUT PEOPLE PORTRAY THEM AS EVIL! #Payback! Also foxes would have no way of knowing that the chicken belongs to a person! People are such idiots!
This is my school mascot!
Humans are not misunderstood. While some of us are pretty smart, there are still a huge number that aren't very smart in one form or another. And with everything we destroy and wipe out, all the greed and hatred we have, and pretty much every other problem we cause day in and day out, humans really are the biggest nuisance that the world has to other. Nothing is a bigger problem than mankind. Animals are more misunderstood than humans and regardless of what some people think, we are definitely NOT the dominant species on this planet.
Yes, while Hitler, Stalin, and Vlad the Impaler were all humans we shouldn't forget that Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, and Mother Teresa were also humans. While in most talking animal films humans are either portrayed as pure evil or stupid, in reality most humans are normal people trying to live normal lives.
The greatest creature on earth ever. Smart and while, yes they can be asses and cause global warming but there is still no creature better. Churchill,Gandhi,Jesus,Steven Hawking and all 7.6 billion of us working together changes the world.
They kill off entire species!
