Best MLB Pitchers of the 1970s

The Top Ten
1 Jim Palmer

In the 1980s he was best known as one third of the famed ABC Monday Night Baseball team with Al Michaels and Tim McCarver. But back in the 1970s he was one of the best. Yeah, 1991 wasn't his year just because he tried to make a comeback that failed, but 1966, 1970, 3 Cy Young Awards and 1983 we're his years. Jim once said, "Losing is no disgrace if you're given your best." He once pitched a no-hitter in 1969 and never gave up a grand slam home run. Palmer, one of baseball's best.

8 Vida Blue
9 Don Sutton

He played on those great Dodger teams in the 1970s and '80s and yes, he won a World Series in 1988. But this here was the 70s. In that decade he was a steady and great player who played in 4 All Star Games in 1972, 1973, 1975 and 1977 and his best season was 1976 when for the only time in his Hall of Fame career he won 20 games while paving the way for the Tom Lasorda era. His number 20 has been retired by the Dodgers.
