Best MLB Pitchers of the 1980s

The Top Ten
1 Jack Morris
2 Nolan Ryan Lynn Nolan Ryan Jr., nicknamed The Ryan Express, is a former Major League Baseball pitcher and a previous chief executive officer of the Texas Rangers. He is currently an executive adviser to the owner of the Houston Astros.
3 Dwight Gooden

Here comes a case of what if. what if he chose striking out batters more than late night parties and drugs. In the first 3 years of his Major League career, NO pitcher did it better. Striking out 200 or more batters in those 3 seasons. His Nike poster in New York City was larger than life. His 1984 Rookie of the Year and that 1985 campaign and in one 50 game stretch, he won 37 games and had 412 strikeouts between 1984 and 1986.

4 Roger Clemens
5 Fernando Valenzuela
6 Orel Hershiser
7 Bert Blyleven
8 Bret Saberhagen

Bret had a good resume on his career including playing in 3 Major League Baseball All-Star Games, pitching a no-hitter in 1991, a 2-time Cy Young Award, and was a pretty good defensive baseball pitcher, BUT 1985 will always be remembered for the Kansas City Royals faithful as he led the Royals to the promised land that is the World Series and beat a great St. Louis Cardinals team in 7 grueling games. Saberhagen, a true baseball great.

9 Dennis Eckersley
10 Ron Guidry

After a great 1978 and 1979, Guidry still had the stuff to be a Yankee great, he did not disappoint his fans. Although the Yankees did NOT win a World Series in this decade, Guidry still provided fans with his great fastball, strikeouts and wins. He was a great fielder too winning five straight Gold Gloves between 1982 and 1986 and won 22 games in 1985. Guidry is also the lone Louisiana player to have his jersey retired.
