Top Ten Moments in the Harry Potter Franchise Where Harry Nearly Dies

Harry, the boy who lived, comes close to dying in almost every movie. Where was he closest to death?
The Top Ten
1 Being hit with the Killing Curse in the Forbidden Forest

Here, Harry didn't resist. He knew he was a Horcrux and had to remove the part of Voldemort within him. This was the closest he got to death, showing up in a completely different plane of existence and having the choice to go back.

2 Attack at Godric's Hollow

The moment where Harry's parents were murdered. Lily's love saved Harry that night, and he was only an infant then. Voldemort wanted him dead according to a prophecy, and his Killing Curse rebounded, but Harry was young and could have easily been killed here.

3 Getting bit by the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets

You guys have to remember, Harry was a Horcrux, and Basilisk fangs can destroy Horcruxes. In a last-ditch attack, Harry plunged the sword through the Basilisk's face but got a fang stuck in him. He used that same fang to destroy Riddle's Diary, but he himself was so close to death.

Had it not been for Fawkes, he surely would not have made it.

4 Battle at Little Hangleton Graveyard

Right at the resurrection of Voldemort at the end of the Goblet of Fire, it was perhaps Harry's most terrifying moment. He was being hit with Imperius and Cruciatus curses, as well as the pain from the iconic scene of Voldemort touching him. Plus, had it not been for Priori Incantatem, he would have never made it out of there.

5 Battling the Inferi at the Horcrux Cave

This moment from Half-Blood Prince had Harry and Dumbledore venture to get a Horcrux, and Dumbledore was incredibly weak at the end. The Inferi attacked Harry, and he couldn't get rid of them all as they submerged him under water. Had Dumbledore not regained his strength, Harry would have easily drowned there.

6 Trying to help Sirius at the Great Lake

This moment near the end of Prisoner of Azkaban, when Sirius was attacked by Dementors for the "kiss," was quite terrifying. And while Harry wasn't the target, he certainly got attacked numerous times trying to help Sirius.

Had it not been for the Time-Turner version of himself, he would have possibly died at that moment.

7 Second task of the Triwizard Tournament

The second task takes place underwater, and we already know drowning is terrifying. The prospect of Harry trying to figure out what to do was also problematic. Additionally, the merpeople attempted to drag him down for being too courageous.

8 Finding Godric Gryffindor's Sword in a frozen pond

This scene from Deathly Hallows may seem unfamiliar, but it occurred during the Horcrux hunt. Harry had the locket on him, attempted to reach the sword, and the Horcrux tried to strangle him. This is the third time on this list Harry nearly drowned, and he was mostly alone in all these moments.

Ron rescued him, but who knows what would have happened if he hadn't been there.

9 Battle of the Seven Potters

While on the run, Hagrid, his ride, got stunned, and he had to control the motorbike for a bit. Also, Hedwig sort of gave his location away, and he had to lock wands with Voldemort yet again.

10 Philosopher's Stone encounter with Quirinus Quirrell in the Underground Chambers

Voldemort's second attack on Potter happened here while he used Quirrell's body, attempting to trap him. However, Lily's love power allowed Harry to avoid death, although he still passed out for three days.
