Most Morally Ambiguous Harry Potter CharactersThere's so many characters in the series, but you get to know them over the course of each title that you might not realize there are both good and bad qualities of them.
Should be pretty obvious why he's at the top. He refused to initally duel Grindelwald, had the Sorcerer's Stone at Hogwarts, lets Harry do most of the dirty work, and was to quote Snape "raising him like a pig for slaughter". He knows a lot and is well-trusted but what do you really know. - NuMetalManiak
Almost as if on cue Snape is next. But then again a lot of people saw it coming, he's hated for much of the first half of Harry Potter but is loved as he was more of a secret keeper than Dumbledore ever was. Sure he was the one who murdered him but then it was all planned.
Also not a surprise. He's done enough things to have been controversial, whether it was breaking Hogwarts rules or something that angered the Ministry of Magic.
This is the first surprising entry on this list and it's almost entirely because of what kind of character she is in the second Fantastic Beasts film. In that film she was originally human, a Maledictus who would later be permanently cursed to be in snake form. She was against the dark wizard Grindelwald and later joined forces with Dumbledore and Newt Scamander. Of course casual Potter fans know her as the snake by Voldemort's side. - NuMetalManiak
Here's another entry that might seem confusing to casual fans who only knew him as a good contestant in the Triwizard Tournament and had a tragic end. While most people who only know him in Goblet of Fire as a friend of Harry's and a good guy, those who know of the play The Cursed Child know that in the plot, the timeline where Cedric dies doesn't play out, and because of that Cedric apparently becomes a Death Eater, murders Neville, and as a result Nagini was never slain and Harry doesn't survive, with Voldemort winning the wizarding war. - NuMetalManiak
He may have been chosen to be a Death Eater but he sure lacked the stomach to carry out the Dark Lord's plans.
Well, duh. Peter was a guy with no real loyalties, and while he was friends with James Potter he basically was the reason they're dead. He of course is by Voldemort's side completely out of fear. - NuMetalManiak
Hagrid's record is usually against him, he was expelled as a student from Hogwarts and always had dangerous creatures around them, plus he doesn't seem to mind putting young kids in danger. Sure, he's a lovable kind of guy with a pure heart but he should be more careful. - NuMetalManiak
I personally think that she should be first
