Top Ten Most Depressing Songs

The Contenders: Page 2

21 Captain Jack - Billy Joel
22 Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley

A mournful and somber vocal line really sets the tone of the song and Buckley's guitar squeezes its way in and is the unsung hero of the song. -

Nowhere near as good as the original by Leonard Cohen. Absolutely nobody feels it like the guy who wrote it.

Beautifully sung by Buckley, Probably a better version than the original

A must hear for anyone going through a patch in there life. May we always remember Buckley.

23 What You Won't Do for Love - Bobby Caldwell

People find this song depressing? I think it's one of the most beautiful and romantic songs. Listening to it always puts me in a good mood.

24 Caroline, No - The Beach Boys
25 Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

Not just the song, the story behind it,
the tale of syd barratt,
this song as so much power and meaning with in to simple verses.

A soulful and screaming guitar line is combined with deep vocals creates a raspy yet quiet jam. -

So beautiful. But my fave will always be Queen. But still, Pink Floyd's still in my top ten or five or so.

And the award for best song lyrics goes to...

26 The Long and Winding Road - The Beatles
27 Hollow - Pantera

I find this one sad, a lot of Pantera's song are very sad - Lucretia

28 Nights In White Satin - The Moody Blues
29 Something About Us - Daft Punk
30 Quicksand - David Bowie

Don't believe in yourself
Don't deceive with belief
knowledge comes with deaths release

31 Something in the Way - Nirvana

The lyrics were written in a time when Kurt spent time under a bridge after being kicked out from his house. The song itself is only two chords, and yet still has so much power.

Just the overall mood of the song. People speculate that Something in the Way was about Kurt's lifting growing up, like "Underneath the bridge".

Definitely one of the saddest songs of all time. This song defines depression.

This song is sooo sad,i have nothing against coldplay but " fix you" is an emotional song with a "happy ending", not a really sad and dark song like something in the way. This song is about how kurt cobain lived under a bridge when he was kick out of his home, it's so sad simple and beautiful at the same time. This song should be in top 10

32 How to Disappear Completely - Radiohead

This song is an absolutely, painfully heartfelt yearning to not be where you are. From a band with many powerfully emotive tracks, this one must be considered the most exceptionally brilliant of them all.

One of the most depressing pieces of music I've ever heard, or endured. When you can't take anything any more, there's a way further down. From depression, to reflectance; this is what this song means to me and many people.

The first time I head this song was at 3am. I bawled so hard that I nearly had a panic attack. To me this this is a picture of my sort of depression. It's not one of just sadness and pain, it's of denial and escape. Like you're fading away to nothingness, to cease to exist.

This is my favorite next to Street Spirit Fade Out

33 Lovesong - The Cure

Um, Lovesong may have a somber melody, but It is still a love song.

34 Breathe Me - Sia

This song is so amazing, it's depressing but seriously perfect for those sad moments. I suggest this as the best sad song.

Every time I hear Breathe Me, it reminds me of Amanda Todd. This song is amazing, I wish it got a lot more attention like Cheap Thrills or Chandelier - LaST_LiGHT

I love this song! It's amazing and it always brings a tear to my eyes every time I listen to it

Should be on the top of the list. I fall apart every time I listen to it

35 Breaking the Habit - Linkin Park

Very sad song to me... Breaks my heart every time I listen to it.

Should be top 10

36 The End - The Doors
37 This Velvet Glove - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Yes... And most beautiful

38 Jeremy - Pearl Jam
39 Dunkelheit - Burzum

This song instantly makes you feel a big overwhelming feeling. Like you are trapped in a state of darkness that you will never come out of.. That said, I don't think the lyrics or song itself are depressing, just the tone and hopeless athmosphere of this song is enough for it to be in the top ten.

40 Skinny Love - Bon Iver

Send powerful messages to women everywhere

Just listen to it! It's an amazing song that will hit u right in the feels
