Most Epic Rock Songs

The Top Ten

1 Stargazer - Rainbow

Just the definition of epic

Oh you gotta be kidding me... The list to epic always starts with STARGAZER. It is the most epic song ever written and recorded... The vocals, the riffs, the holy solo, the awesome drum beats.. You name it its all here.. Other songs mentioned here are good but this is whole another level... THIS is how you spell epic.

Nope. Not even top 100...

Do y'all even have an ear for harmony? Metallica is up there for the sheer difficulty and complexity of playing those combinations of chords; however, any 8-year old could hack this song in about 12 minutes.

Since this is your number one, you know what this means? Next website...

This is one of the rare times I side with the majority. It has no rival.

2 Hallowed Be Thy Name - Iron Maiden

I just come to see that someone sane make mention of this suprem piece. I just can say thank you

3 Kashmir - Led Zeppelin

Irrefutably and unquestionably the greatest jam of all time.

Kashmir is the greatest epic of all time, with every part fading in and out seamlessly. It has a magnificent riff and is enchanting when played loudly!

Ageless and hypnotically addictive. Pretty much like all of Led Zeppelin's music... In My Time Of Dying - Physical Graffiti and When The Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin IV also belong high on epic song list.

4 Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

Good grief! The movie is spelt Wayne's World not Whane's World.

How on earth is this not number 1? Bohemian Rhapsody is way more epic than any of these on the list. Just listen to the opera sequence with Freddie's epic vocal range.

Greatest rock song ever. very complex, intense, mysterious, and big. All hail the Queen!

THE most epic rock song ever, no question, end of story...

5 Child in Time - Deep Purple

The vocals alone make this a classic.

The guitar is magic. - Donut

6 Sacred Worlds - Blind Guardian

Impressive symphonic metal - can't get more epic than this. Outstanding music, vocals and performance in general - one of the most beautiful and powerful pieces I've ever heard. - Metal_Treasure

7 Pull Me Under - Dream Theater

its that epic that in guitar hero wt you play it on a floating ship with eagles pulling it - wolphert

This song has everything kick ass drums, bass, keyboard and face melting fret board finger solos.

8 Burnt Offerings - Iced Earth
9 2112 Overture / The Temples of Syrinx - Rush

This song is truly EPIC, almost blew my brains the first time I listened to it. Its Rush at its best. Amazing battery, guitar, vocals, lyrics. Truly amazing song, there's nothing like it.

Arguably the best progressive rock song ever; anyone who has listened to this song knows how epic this song is. I can't believe 2112 didn't crack the top 10.

Can't believe this is 27. Rush is so under-appreciated.

One of the best songs ever, one of the best band ever

10 Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin

Stairway to Heaven is not only one of the best rock songs, but one of the best songs of all time. Believe me, that is most certainly not an overstatement. Anyone who has heard this song knows how mystical the lyrics, Robert Plant's voice, and Jimmy Pages guitar sounds. Not to mention, it has one of the best guitar solos in rock history. I like One (Metallica) and Pull Me Under (Dream Theater) a lot too, but Stairway is just amazing. If you haven't heard it yet, stop reading this and go listen to it.

This Deserves To Be #1
Stairway To Heaven is the most epic masterpiece in rock N roll history
WAY better than Pull Me Under!
- OzzyVanHalen

The Contenders

11 For Whom the Bell Tolls - Metallica
12 One - Metallica

13 Phantom of the Opera - Iron Maiden

Great riffs all the way through, fantastic guitar harmony and then 2 stunning guitar solos- I wish it were longer

14 Dante's Inferno - Iced Earth

16:26 minutes of sublime epicness! - Metal_Treasure

15 Chance - Savatage
16 War Pigs - Black Sabbath

Some people may see this as evil, but truth be told, it's not. Some people probably don't realize this, but this is an anti-war song. In other words, it's letting us know that war and murder is very evil and needs to stop. It's a great but misunderstood song that more than well deserves a spot on this list. And I love Black Sabbath.

I will never understand why this song gets so much attention and credits - it's several notes repeated, Ozzy’s bad throaty singing is contained within a single octave only, and his throat is so tight that hurts my ears.

For these reasons this song doesn't sound epic to me at all (although it's long).
Epic = impressive rich sound, gorgeous songs, perfect performance.

I know that many people will thumb me down but I told the truth - this is one of the most overrated songs ever. - Metal_Treasure

17 Mistreated - Deep Purple

Killer riff, heavy sound, epic and powerful vox. Beware - the intro riff is so powerful that can open your 3rd eye, especially the live version from California Jamming 1974. - Metal_Treasure

18 Rebellion in Dreamland - Gamma Ray
19 Dance of Death - Iron Maiden

Iron maiden is the god of metal and they proved that by this song and it deserves to be number 1. Of course I'm a die heart fan of this god of metal. Every band must bow their head after this god of metal. Thank you!

All three maiden songs in this list are excellent this one is the best and I wish AFRAID TO SHOOT STRANGERS was in this list too! This songs deserves a higher spot, perhaps 2

20 Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd
21 Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd

AMAZING! best guitar solo ever in my opinion... it's so organised and pure

Listen to the second guitar solo and tell me that this isn't the most epic, and best song of all time

At least better than one - Metallica. Come on!

22 Highway Star - Deep Purple
23 Shine on You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd

This is the band you want to listen to if you like epics.

Would have voted for echoes or dogs, but they don, t appear on this list. No other band beats the floyd for epics.

24 The Ninth Wave - Blind Guardian

Definition of Epic as of 2015! - Metal_Treasure

25 Hotel California - Eagles
26 Livin’ On a Prayer - Bon Jovi
27 November Rain - Guns N' Roses
28 Sweet Child O’ Mine - Guns N’ Roses
29 Through the Fire and Flames - Dragonforce

How is this song not in the top 10?

EPIC! Laugh out loud, love this song, it's so cool! Cool enough to burn me, OWAH

30 The Revenant Choir - Versailles

I respect that Stairway to heaven is frequently acclaimed to be the greatest but for me Revenant Choir is top. I have to say it is a good list though. - Taloper

31 The Trooper - Iron Maiden
32 The End - The Doors

In eleven minutes The Doors made a song about love, loss, growing up, individuality, darkness while enlightening the world. No one had done it before and no one will ever do it again.

This is an epic itself

33 Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

An anthem for the young generation...

34 Mr. Crowley - Ozzy Osbourne
