Most Important Harry Potter Characters

The Top Ten
1 Harry Potter Harry James Potter is the title character of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. The majority of the books' plot covers seven years in the life of the orphan Potter, who, on his eleventh birthday, learns he is a wizard.

But, think about it this way...
So, Voldemort made horcruxes. Now, he was not aware that he had made one into Harry so imagine if Harry was never real. Sure Dumbledore may have stopped Voldemort but this would leave Neville to be the chosen one. Then he would be a hrocrux, his parents would be killed, his Granmother would be killed, he would go through all off Harry's life and then he would try and defeat Voldemort. But, do you really think this could happen? I mean, could Neville kill Voldemort? So technically, Harry is not that important or if you prefer to think about it like this; Harry and Neville have equal importance? What do you think?

Harrys The most important and greatest character of all time. He is REALLY BRAVE and he wasn't afraid to die if it meant being one step closer to killing Voldemort. He would give up his life for his friends. Without Harry Voldemort would still be destroying everything as no one has ever had enough courage to face and survive Voldemort the number of times he's done. He survived Voldemort when he was only 14.FOURTEEN! And fully capable adult aurors or order members couldn't possibly face him and survive. Not even Dumbledore could have survived Voldemort at 14.

Yes Harry is the main character but he is not the most important. I believe Voldemort and dumbledore are more important to the series than Harry. Let's face it, Harry would have died if it wasn't for dumbledore, and the whole story is based off of the fact that Voldemort killed Harry's parents but couldn't kill Harry because of Lily's sacrifice. So lily is also a more important character than Harry. Without lily sacrificing herself for Harry then we would have no famous Harry Potter.

First year: He saved the sorcerer's stone and Hermione from a troll. 2: He killed the basilisk and saved poor Ginny. 3: he did a patronus. He saved Sirius and Buckbeak. 4:Went into the goblet of fire even though he was only fourteen. 5: Started Dumbledore's army. 6: Fell in love with Ginny/slash loved her. Helped Dumbledore find the Horcrux (FAKE). 7: Found some Horcruxes. Killed Voldemort.
He is also the main character and super duper super duper importent because of the profecy and etc.
Though he was an AWFUL father. Draco was the better one. Harry hated Albus & Scorpius playing together cause he had hated Draco, but Draco let the boys be together. #rightthingtodo.
But overall Harry is obviously the most important character.

2 Voldemort Lord Voldemort is a fictional character and the central main antagonist in J. K. Rowling's series of Harry Potter novels. Voldemort first appeared in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which was released in 1997.

Without Voldemort, there would be no enemy! So there would be no one to fight against! Voldemort and Harry are both the most important characters in the story because the rivalry between them keeps the storyline going

There would be nothing happening and it would be a boring series without him. WHY isn't HE number 1
note to readers:I don't like him but he is basically essential. I'm not a death eater

Okay, I am not surprised Harry is number 1. But may I point something out? The entire story would never have happened without Volde-sorry He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Without Harry there still would have been a prophecy, just Neville would have been chosen by Voldemort and he would have to defeat him. However, without Voldemort there wouldn't be any main villain or point of the story. It wouldn't be Harry the Boy-Who-Lived, it would be Harry the Boy-Who-Turned-His-Potions-Essay-In-Late. Without Voldemort a lot of things change. Let us list people who died because of Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Snape, Fred, Remus, Tonks, Lily, James, Sirius, Moody, Dobby, HEDWIG THE POOR OWL WHY DID YOU DIE, Albus, and Cedric. There is probably a lot more just those are ones I can list off the top of my head. They would all still be alive. All of those deaths because of Voldemort. Harry would be a normal kid with a normal family with a normal time at Hogwarts without Voldemort. Oh, right and Hermione ...more

Vote this up. Voldemort is the antagonist, Hermione is a sidekick. He deserves to be ahead of her.

3 Severus Snape Severus Snape is a fictional character in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. He is characterised as a person of great complexity, whose coldly sarcastic and controlled exterior conceals deep emotions and anguish.

Snape. The most complicated character in the series. He played the most important role. Although Harry Potter was the one who defeated Voldemort and everything, it was Snape who lead to it. It was Snape's decision to sacrifice his life which lead to Harry's victory. Without the selflessness of Snape, Harry would have died a tragic death.

He's the coolest and one of the smartest characters. If everyone listen to Harry, Dumbledore, and Snape everything would be perfect! :) He's very brave. I really want to see what would of happened if he married Lily!

Well guys when it comes to importance, it's OBVIOUSLY snape! If he hadnt begged voldemort to spare lily, her death wouldn't have been a sacrifice meaning harry couldn't have survived! there would have been no the boy who lived if it wasnt for sn@pe!

He wasn't important but he did give a good addition to the show.

4 Hermione Granger

Yeah she should be second. WHY does Severus matter so much to everyone? It is annoying! Tons of times, Harry and Ron would have died without her. Like in the Devil's Snare. And without her, Voldemort would have still been in power because Harry would be dead. And she saved Buckbeak and founded Dumbledore's Army. Plus, she is just plain awesome and gets only As. No Bs or Cs. And she got outstanding on nine of her O.W.Ls. Hermione is so great. Hermione has awesome quotes, too. Like my personal favorite-- "Books! And cleverness! There are more important things-- friendship, and bravery." Go Hermione Granger!

Hermione is amazing! I KNOW the books are Harry Potter, but without Hermione the end would have been the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's stone, because the books would have been Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley: Let's see how many times they fail! Hermoine taught us that life is about more than smarts, it's about friendship and Bravery. She's truly the most important character.

I think that Hermione should at LEAST be 2nd and that for her to be 5th is NOT tolerant. She helped Harry in EVERY story except she always stays behind to help the poorly. If only she could've come along to help Harry with his spells. If she had, she wouldn't've been as much use, I know that, but still.

Hermione should at least be in the top 3. She is 'The brightest wizard of her age' and she could be number 1! But Harry deserves to be number one too. Everyone keeps saying 'This person is the most important because heshe did this for Harry.' It's called Harry Potter! Still, GO HERMIONE!

5 Albus Dumbledore Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore is a fictional character in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series.

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore saved Harry multiple times and found the hallows and gave hints to Harry where they were and he did the same thing for the horcruxes. He had chosen his death so Voldemort wouldn't be the master of the elder wand Harry would be dead without him and Harry's at the top! That's confusing.

Dumbledore should at least be #3 not #5. Who told Snape to kill him so Draco didn't have to? Who proved Harry innocent at his hearing in book 5? Who saved Harry and Neville's lives in the Department of Mysteries? Who cared about Harry so much it took him till Harry was 15 to tell him about the Prophecy? Dumbledore

Dumbledore knows all... even old Voldy admits it. "You are as omniscient as ever." The whole series was literally his giant master plan (admittedly not all parts of it) to defeat Voldemort. A powerful man, with a couple of weaknesses. A strangely pleasing sense of humor as well.

None of this could have happened without Dumbledore! He rules! Harry Potter is a little to full of himself and takes everything for granted. I think maybe at least Ron and Hermione should be a bit higher in the ranks though.

6 Ron Weasley Ronald Bilius "Ron" Weasley is a fictional character in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. His first appearance was in the first book of the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone as the best friend of Harry Potter and Hermione Granger.

Without Ron, Hermione would have been killed by the troll and harry... he would have been dead a million times over if Ron hadn't had his back like the loyal, brave and loving friend he is.

Ron is not important at all, except he saved Harry from drowning and broke a horcrux in deathly hallows then married Hermione Granger (who is cool) and had such sweet children rose granger weasley and hugo.

Why in the world is Ron down here? He should be right up there with Harry and Hermione. So much wouldn't have happened if there was no Ron.

You only need to read Goblet of Fire during the Second Task to find out that he's the most important person in the world to Harry. I think that is saying something

7 Sirius Black

I mean he was the only thing close to a father for harry and was the only one who thought that harry should find out information from the secret army that they made up for him! which means that he is the only member of the order of the phionex who has logic.

Seventh place? Like come on guys! He was the only good family Harry had. The fifth book wouldn't make sense without Sirius... the whole book series wouldn't make sense!

There would be no 3rd book without him. PLUS his awesomeness rubbed off on Harry, probably helping him kill Voldemort!

After James and Lily's deaths, Sirius was the only remaining family for Harry before he got married. Plus he's my crush

8 Draco Malfoy Draco Lucius Malfoy is a character in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. He is a student in Harry Potter's year belonging in the Slytherin house.

The character development is so GOOD. I love Draco Malfoy, definitely my favorite character. Not only does he prove that he has good in his heart, he also saves Harry's life. Twice, I guess. The reason he acted so cruel is because his father is cruel. To outside people. His father taught him to be intolerant. His mother, though, is kind. But he is number seven? MY FATHER WILL HEAR ABOUT THIS!

Wait until my father hears about this! How could he be important? He is a selfish character with no redeeming points.

Harry had the chance to become friends with the coolest kid at hogwarts and refused...what an idiot and not only that,he could have been in slytherin and of course a FREE NIMBUS 2000.

To me, Draco Malfoy is DEFINITELY required. He gets all the girls who watch him in the movies including me

9 Rubeus Hagrid Rubeus Hagrid is a fictional character in the Harry Potter book series written by J. K. Rowling. Hagrid is introduced in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone as a half-giant and half-human who is the gamekeeper and Keeper of Keys and Grounds of Hogwarts, the primary setting for the first six novels. ...read more.

"Sirius was Harry's only father-figure" was rubbish. just rubbish.
Harry bought Harry a birthday cake, invited him over anytime he wanted, cheered him on at all Quidditch matches, cried when Harry had to be left with the Dursleys, cared a lot about Harry's safety and well-being, and cried at Harry's 'death' out of legitimate sadness, not because Harry now 'couldn't' destroy Voldemort. COME ON PEOPLE

Of course he's important! Hagrid was the first one to tell harry about wizardry. Without him, Hermione, Luna, Ron, Cho, Fleur, Ginny and other amazing characters would not have existed! Without Hagrid, the first book would've been called: Harry Potter and the Stupid Dursleys.

First of all, Sirius would have died early if Hagrid hadn't had Buckbeak! Poor Norbert/Norbertta would have lived with Voldemort! Nobody would have gotten Harry Hedwig! Nobody would have accidentally told Harry and his friends about the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone and Voldemort would have got it!

Hagrid was the closest thing to a father figure Harry had. He told Harry he was a wizard, saved him, and without Hagrid..There would be muggles.
Just muggles.
And, the story would end, right there, right then.

10 Neville Longbottom

He is the second most important character after Harry Potter! He's the one who killed Voldemort! (Because let's be honest after he killed Nagini Voldemort feels weak and dies, Harry didn't do anything apart from taking Voldemort's wand, and don't tell me that that's why he died) And it kills me because he did amazing things but he never got thé credits, it was only Harry "the chosen one" who did. But clearly, it's Neville the real hero.
You go champ!

Neville should be joint top with harry. Neville is the second chosen one I mean come on... 10th? It was Neville or harry... but jk Rowling decided Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone sounded better than neville longbottom and the philosopher's stone... let's be honest I understand why

He did kill Nagini, which allowed Harry to finish off Voldemort and stood up to Voldemort in the same movie.

Not to mention the fact that he stood up to Voldemort in the 7th movie and got everyone to their senses.

The Contenders
11 Ginny Weasley Ginny Weasley is a prominent character in the "Harry Potter" series by J.K. Rowling. She is the youngest child and only daughter of the Weasley family. Initially introduced as a shy girl with a crush on Harry Potter, Ginny develops into a strong, independent young woman. Skilled in magic and Quidditch, she plays a pivotal role in the fight against Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

people get some mind please. Ginny is more important than him. She has done something she tried to avenge him, cut her some slack I'm so unhappy she is the most important more important then harry Hermione and loony combined Ginny is the best not the 11th! Ginny rocks! She is the only character that did something!

Ginny should be higher up. She's important. As much as I love all the others, Ginerva Molly Weasley is the best.

She is a great person, though I love Luna, Hagrid, and Hermione more.

For my comet look on top female carters.

12 Lily J. Potter

Lily Potter gave birth to Harry, the main character, she DIED for him so that he would live, and Snape would never have helped him if he weren't her son, because he secretly loved her, and hated James.

Lily potter and Voldemort are the most important characters in th series

What the hell if Lily hadn't died for Harry Voldemort would be alive and Harry dead

13 Dobby the House Elf

Dobby is the best, amazing and better than anyone else!
I hate Bellatrix Lestrange for killing Dobby.
I hate Harry Potter to! Dobby must be the new main character in the new movie, Dobby Is Free!
Vote Dobby and don't vote anyone else! - Go Dobby!

Dobby warned Harry Potter not to go back. Dobby tried to seriously injure Bellatrix! He died a free elf, knowing that his friends were safe.
He can finally die happy.

He is totally awesome

Dobby is a lad

14 Remus Lupin

He was better than unbridgeable Lockhart Quirrell Carrow snape and moody all put together IN DADA

15 Luna Lovegood Luna Lovegood was a witch from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. She was the only child of Xenophilius and Pandora Lovegood. Her mother accidentally died while experimenting with spells when Luna was nine and Luna was raised by her father, who was the editor of the magazine The Quibbler, in a ...read more.

Listen the nargles where what she believed infested mistletoe.
She appeared in the fifth book, she was most important when she was the most sane at the argument on getting to the department of mysteries and said to take the thestrals. If Harry hadn't been using his teenage anger on everyone he would've remembered to use the thestrals because he can also see them.
I think you're going by the movie Luna.
Because you seem to forget this quote "Mistletoe," said Luna dreamily, pointing at a large clump of white berries placed over Harry's head. He jumped out from under it. "Good thinking," said Luna very seriously. "It's often infested with Nargles." that's the only time she mentioned them.

Luna is my favorite character she shows us girls to be differnt and march to our own beat even if your be voted most likely to look for nargles.

Luna is important, of course... If there was no Luna, they would never have gotten to the Department of Mysteries.

#nargles4life

She is awesome! You should vote for her if not the nargles will get ya.

16 Bellatrix Lestrange A psychotic death eater who escaped from Azkaban, and is fiercely loyal to Voldemort. Murderer of many people such as Sirius Black, and also a sadist who drove the Longbottoms mad.

Love you Bella e

17 Molly Weasley

She should be higher. if she wouldn't have killed bellatrax ginny would have died and so harry could not have kids and the cursed child would never of happened

She is a great one!

18 Minerva McGonagall
19 James Potter

If it hadn't been for them their would be no Harry Potter!

20 Lord Voldemort Lord Voldemort is a fictional character and the central main antagonist in J. K. Rowling's series of Harry Potter novels. Voldemort first appeared in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which was released in 1997.

Honestly, Voldemort should be higher. Without him Harry Potter would not be our Harry Potter

Voldemort was actually the one starting IT he had the Death esters, he killed Lily and James and gives Harry hus scar making him the chosen one

21 Scorpius Malfoy
22 Alastor Moody
23 Sybill Trelawney
24 Peter Pettigrew
25 Dudley Dursley

Interesting definitely not but important yes. Without him, Harry would be just like Malfoy,

He turned out good at the end... I guess he really does love Harry.

Shut up dudley is mixed
