Top Ten Most Original Rock Bands

The Top Ten

1 Pink Floyd Pink Floyd was an English progressive rock band formed in 1965 in London, England. They achieved international acclaim with their progressive and psychedelic music. The band consisted of 5 members - David Gilmour (Vocals and Guitar), Syd Barrett (Vocals and Guitar), Nick Mason (Drums), Roger Waters more.

They are the best I love pink Floyd I think they have influenced my life style through out my life and even today I am who I am because of their inspirational music Pink Floyd is one if the best bands for sure due to their amazing talents and everything they do to make the music they do.

Just brilliant. I love pink floyd and their music is pretty much one of a kind!

Gotta love their originality - jprg12

You use Pink Floyd to describe other artist's music - mr_crossover27

2 System of a Down System of a Down formed in 1994 as an Armenian-American Alternative Metal group from Glendale, California. The band name is sometimes shortened to System or SOAD. more.

System of a Down is without a doubt the most unique band I have ever heard. I have never found a single song with them that I did not love and I have never heard a band sound even remotely alike to them, and I have looked and been sent songs from other bands. Nothing is like these guys. Original, fun and heavy.
Pink Floyd is a close second though. Two of my favourite bands right there.

I barely would like a metal band, most of them sound crazy but System of a Down is insane and FUN. Its the only rock band that you can laugh and dance with it! They have a funny style and have 14 million fans in facebook and I'm one of them. But it took 3 months for me to love them. At first I hated them. That can happen to you to

Unfairly lumped in with nu-metal bands of the early 2000's, System of a down are a very unique hard rock band with a funny and slightly avant-garde approach to songwriting. Their lead singer (Serj Tankian) has taken part in quite a few avant-garde projects over the years. Any of their albums are recommend since their sound and quality is very consistent throughout their discography.

All their songs are good, they don't release anything they thing is maybe good... NO! They know what their doing. All awesome musician. They don't sound like any other metal bands because they weren't listening to this kind of music before starting the band. Cheer.

3 Queen Queen are an English rock band formed in 1970. Members were Freddie Mercury (Vocals and Piano), Brian May (Guitar, Vocals), Roger Taylor (Drums, Vocals), and John Deacon (Bass Guitar, Vocals). Before forming into Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had played together in a band named Smile. Freddie Mercury more.

I love music and I love all forms of music to some degree but when it comes to pure talent, song writing skill and evolutionary diversification over decades No one beats Queen. They come up with melodies that shouldn't even exist yet you can't shake them after years and Brian May has mastered the most distinctive sound that I've ever heard on lead guitar

Best band ever, just behind the Beatles. They are never boring. Random listen The March of the black queen, then Good company then Father to son, then Jesus then Man oh the prowl then The millionaire waltz then Liar then Hitman etc. I can endless name the songs that are never the same. They could do anything. Not to mention the obe and only Freddie. And the other three musical geniuses. Period.

Queen deserves higher than 26..

Queen is at the top of every list. The best ever.

4 Nine Inch Nails Nine Inch Nails is an American industrial rock band and, founded in 1988 by Trent Reznor in Cleveland, Ohio.

Really awesome industrial rock band. Industrial rock is a really underrated music genre and I think it deserves more attention. It's a great genre.

Trent is a musical genius! His songs are just so atmospheric. Let's keep supporting him. You're awesome Trent. And happy birthday!

They are just fantastic.

Not so much of a band than a man. Trent Reznor. The genius

5 Radiohead Radiohead are an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke (lead vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments), Colin Greenwoood (bass guitar), Phil Selway (drums), and Ed O'Brien (guitar).

Radiohead the only thing that made sense on this list. Although I feel like Gorillaz should be here somewhere since they are a mix of pretty much everything there is.

These guys and Pink Floyd are both great, but man oh man. Radiohead reinvents their sound with every new album. Each one offers something different. It's hard to believe Kid A and The Bends are from the same group. Thom's lyrics are so brilliantly ambiguous and it is evident that they are not afraid to test new sounds.

They change their style so much with each album that these days I honestly have no idea what they're going to come up with next

Definitely Radiohead. I could type a 2 hour explanation of why, but I'm too lazy. Most original album is Amnesiac, definitely.

6 The Beatles The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were soon known as the foremost and most influential act of rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented more.

They did start off doing covers like everyone else, but Lennon & McCartney grew into unparalleled original songwriters - close to 30 #1hit songs just for starters, not to mention dozens of innovations that have been copied by bands for decades, leading to both a musical and cultural revolution around the world.. When you add in Harrison's gems (Here Comes The Sun, Something, Taxman, While My Guitar Gently Weeps), it just gets better. How can they not be #1 on this list? Perhaps because they are also the most original Pop band of all time and get branded as such, or they were "tainted" by insane commercial success. The proof is in the songs though and ongoing influence though. No one can boast more than the lads from Liverpool.

They are one of the oldest groups here and clearly inspired the other bands in front of them! They created genres, made Rock music more relevant to the world, put Liverpool on the worldwide map, INSPIRED PEOPLE TO START WRITING THEIR OWN MUSIC, were one of the first bands to write all their songs, made british music even more famous, one of the first of many British bands to make it big in America and introduced british music to the country, so many bands have cited them as inspirations and have covered their songs. The fact they started the song-writing trend makes them the most original

Why on earth aren't the Beatles first? They started several new genres of music, as well as adding a twist to rock that had came before them. They are the main reason why '70s music was so good- because they were pioneers, and all these other great rock bands followed in their footsteps. Whether you personally like them or not, they CHANGED MUSIC, people! Look at music before and after the Beatles and how drastically different it is. By far the most original band in history.

The Beatles being so low on the list is just a testament to how people just vote for their favorite band that is high on the list. The Beatles are far from my favorite band but out of all rock bands, they are the absolute most original.

7 Tool Tool is an American progressive/alternative/post-metal band, that was formed in 1990. more.

Maynard is one of the few brilliant lyricists to ever admit that writing their music always starts with the sound. Then the lyrics are found. Considering the topics they choose to write about and the language that is chosen, the fact that they are inspired sonically first is a true testament to their talent. That is the best way I can describe Tool... Perhaps the most underrated band of our time.

Unique in sound and brilliant in creation. Along with Pink Floyd, the true masters of album construction.

I have listened to tool like forever since I was at least 2 so I would still say they are brilliant and amazing and it sometimes takes brainpower to even under stand their music but that's good

There is no other band in the world like tool. That being said, there is also no other band in the world as good as tool.

8 Muse Muse are an English alternative rock band from Teignmouth, Devon, formed in 1994. The members are Matt Bellamy (lead vocal, lead guitar, piano, keyboard), Dom Howard (drums, percussion) and Chris Wolstenholme (bass, backing vocals). They've won several awards including 5 MTV Awards, 8 NME Awards, 2 more.

Great songs. Awesome songs actually.

Please muse must be 1st on chart!

People rank them higher. They deserve more!

Muse are genius and their live shows are to die for!

9 Guns N Roses Guns N' Roses is an American hard rock band from Los Angeles formed in 1985. The classic lineup, as signed to Geffen Records in 1986, consisted of vocalist Axl Rose, lead guitarist Slash, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin, bassist Duff McKagan, and drummer Steven Adler. Apart from hard rock they are also more.

I like Guns N Roses, but honestly, they're not at all original. Most of music is extremely similar to that of Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, and other hard rock groups.

Awesome band. Unique and they did change they way we rock! BUT, similar to Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith? Can't buy that one for a penny.

these guys changed the landscape of rock and roll and music

I absolutely LOVE this guys! They r awesome and have REAL talent!

10 Nirvana Nirvana was an American grunge band that was formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. Nirvana disbanded after Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994. The drummer of the band, David Grohl, went on to start the Foo-Fighters, an alternative rock band. more.

Greatest band ever! They made grunge what it is. Their original music that no one out of Seattle had ever heard before put the Rap industry on hold for a few years while everyone was listening to grunge!

They rock they are the one who invented grunge rock. Without their 'smells like teen sprit' world would not be have been same

I'm pretty sure there is a difference between inventing and popularizing a genre. - Soulstealer

Speechless is all I can say. They are so great that it's confusing to describe it.

How are they original? They ripped off the Pixies! - Soulstealer

The Contenders

11 Deep Purple Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach changed over the years. Originally formed as a progressive rock band, the band shifted to a heavier sound in 1970. Deep Purple, more.

They are definitely the most original band - you can't pioneer 2 music genres (hard rock and heavy metal) if you are not original. Yes, not one but 2 genres, and if you ask me - the best genres in the world! - Metal_Treasure

12 Metallica Metallica is an American Thrash Metal band formed in 1981 . The original lineup was James Hetfield (Vocalist and Rhythm guitarist), Dave Mustaine (Lead Guitar), Lars Ulrich (Drums), Ron McGovney (Bassist). 14 Blind Guardian Blind Guardian is a German power metal band formed in the mid-1980s in West Germany. They are often credited as one of the seminal and most influential bands in the power metal and speed metal subgenres. Heavily influenced by Queen, they use the technique of overdubbing. They also incorporate large more.

The most original metal band - they developed such an original style that they differ from the bands within the same metal subgenres.

Whatever they do, they do it their own way - their speed metal is different from the typical speed metal (their version is darker and heavier);
same for their power metal, which doesn't sound like any other power metal - absolutely unique dense sound, bizzare melodies and lyrics, it's also prog influenced;
their symphonic metal is different, too - they use orchestra in a different way. - Metal_Treasure

15 Rush Rush was a Canadian progressive rock band that was formed in 1968. Even though the only founding member still in the band is Alex Lifeson (Guitar), the band is most well-known for their current members Neil Peart (Drums) and Geddy Lee (Bass, Vocals). more.

Nobody ever sounded like rush. They have a unique sound that will never be copied. They didn't sound like their music was inspired by some other band, because it wasn't. They should already have been on this list and at the top

To me you can't even classify them under a genre they are very different in their sound, and even so they are one of the best bands in the world

How do you categorize Rush? Is it rock? Is it techno? This is a list about most original bands not the best rock bands. Rush should be number 1.

16 Coil Coil were an experimental group consisting of Jhonn Balance and Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson, the latter of Throbbing Gristle fame. Formed in 1982, the duo went on to create well-celebrated albums such as 1987's Horse Rotovator, 1991's Love's Secret Domain, 1999's Musick To Play In The Dark, as well more.

Coil? As in former throbbing gristle & ex Ptv Coil? You people are insane. (Though they'er better then any of the crap on this list)

17 Porcupine Tree Porcupine Tree were an English rock band formed by musician Steven Wilson in 1987. The band began essentially as a solo project for Wilson, who created all of the band's music.

Listen to Anesthetize to witness Porcupine Tree at their peak. Once you've done that a decided that they're amazing, check out the rest of Fear of a Blank Planet because you'll probably love it. You'll probably love the rest of their work as well.

Like all bands, their influences can be heard in their music, however, they have continuously evolved and sought to diversify their style and sound. They are the perfect mid-point between obscurity. Their music is as challenging as it can be accessible.

The Greatest and the most diverse band of the past decade. They have tried everything. Redefined prog. Fear of a Blank Planet makes you feel like you are on acid! I don't have anymore words to describe their awesomeness! #Stoned

This band gave a new meaning to prog rock. They defined and shaped music with their technical, complex and emotional music. Steven, Richard, Gavin and Collin are geniuses. VIVA PT!

18 Alice In Chains Alice in Chains is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1987 by guitarist and songwriter Jerry Cantrell and original lead vocalist Layne Staley.

One of the best grunge band one of the best heavy metal band the creators of alternative metal

The members currently include Mike Shinoda (vocals, keyboards, rhythm guitar), Brad Delson (guitar), Dave "Phoenix" Farrell (bass), Joe Hahn (DJ) and Rob Bourdon (drums). Linkin Park are associated with a mixture of Alternative more.

Calling them unique is like calling Nickelback innovative. They are just an overly polished ripoff of Rage Against the Machine if anything.

How is this not at the VERY Top #1! Love every track in the first 3 albums, listen to them none stop! - LukeBlundell

Linkin Park basically invented their Genre/Style of Music, one of the best bands ever.

Best band by far and surprised why it isn't in top 3

20 Queens of the Stone Age Queens of the Stone Age is an American rock band from Palm Desert, California, United States, formed in 1996. The band's line-up includes founder Josh Homme, alongside longtime members Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita, and recent addition Jon Theodore.

Come one or more other bands besides Queens of the Stone Age that used a radio broadcast of a desert radio station as a concept for an album (Songs for the Deaf)? I feel as though they have never a sole formula for their songs, by any means. For instance, do "Go with the Flow" and "3's and 7's" sound anything alike? NO!

These guys brought sex and drugs back into rock and roll but in a really refreshing way, not in a cheesy 80s hair metal kind of way. they also have some really weird, dark melodies on top of their heavy sludge of a rhythm section. however, unlike other heavy bands that are satanic and wear black all the time, QOTSA don't need their mommy's permission to drink goat blood. definitely one of the most, if not the only, relevant rock bands today

While other 90s alternative rock acts were singing songs about adolescence and angst and all that other corny crap, QOTSA burst out of the desert and made heavy, solid rock music about f**king. Usually when one hears a song like "Make it Wit CHu" they would think the song is about stuff like "we can make it, no matter how hard it may seem" but what Josh is actually singing about is how he can make out with you anytime, anywhere he wants. that's right, QOTSA waxes the cheese big time, and substitutes it what something more sly, something that definitely fits the essence of rock'n'roll

21 Rammstein Rammstein is a German Neue Deutsche Härte and Industrial Metal band consisting of Till Lindemann (vocals), Richard Kruspe (guitar), Paul Landers (guitar), Oliver Riedel (electric bass), Christoph Schneider (drums) and Christian Lorenz (keyboard), that formed in 1994 in Berlin . more.

I absolutely think that this band should be higher up. The music is so unique and powerful! They bring new meaning to the word "original". There aren't enough words to describe how awesome this band is.

Love me some German rock!

22 Red Hot Chili Peppers The Red Hot Chili Peppers is an American funk-rock and alternative rock band, that was founded in 1983. more.

These guys are AWESOME! Especially their stuff at the time of Blood Sugar Sex Magic. I love John's guitar playing, Anthony's vocals, Chad Smith's highly underrated drumming, and Flea's slap bass.

A completely new new sound that brought two good genres together

Best rock band ever, gave a new name to funk

They combine just about every genre of music and are all unbelievably talented ( though since john left I will admit they arnt as good)

23 Gorillaz Gorillaz are an English virtual band created in 1998 by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. The band consists of four animated members: 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs.

Great band that is very original and should at least be top 20

Like a mix of everything

Radiohead and gorillaz should be number one most UNIQUE bands. Guys this list isn't about your personal favorite, its about originalality. So why is Linkin Park at 11!

25 Iron Maiden Iron Maiden are an English Heavy Metal / Hard Rock band formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. The most critically acclaimed period for the band was from 1983-1989. With vocalist Bruce Dickinson, bassist Steve Harris, lead guitarist Dave Murray, rhythm more.
26 The Smashing Pumpkins The Smashing Pumpkins is an American alternative rock band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1988. Formed by frontman Billy Corgan and James Iha, the band included D'arcy Wretzky and Jimmy Chamberlin in its original incarnation. They are also considered to be one of the most influential alternative more.

They are very unique, and I love the fact that there is a girl in the band who is treated as an equal. As an aspiring female guitarist, the music industry doesn't have many bands with girls in them, that are still taken seriously. This band reminds me that yes, I can do this. Also, I loved the uniqueness of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. It was nothing I had ever seen or heard before. They changed lives, and they influenced other bands to be unique and have unique themes. Panic! At the Disco for example were highly influenced by the theme of Tonight, Tonight from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Their whole album theme was influenced by the one video. The Smashing Pumpkins be whoever they want to be, and are accepted for it, and not judged. I just love them, and I will live and die as a fan.

27 Soundgarden Soundgarden is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1984 by singer and rhythm guitarist Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto.

More original than Nirvana. - Soulstealer

Such unique sound mixing 70s rock with their own metal-ish style. Chris Cornel's voice is stellar and powerful! Not to mention complex and genius lyrics.
This band deserves way more recognition.

28 Marilyn Manson

Marilyn Manson is the best artist and best band! Just watch everything they made, and you will understand

The band's current lineup includes founding members Jonathan Davis, James "Munky" Shaffer, Brian "Head" Welch, and Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu, with the addition of Ray Luzier, who replaced the band's original member, David more.

I really had to add korn. They made nu metal!

The first Nu Metal band.

Korn ushered in an entirely new genre in "Nu Metal." Over the years, however, that "genre" has all but disappeared except for its originators. It just turned out that the new sound that emerged in 1994 was simply KoЯn, not a new genre.

Seriously, as their sound has altered throughout the years, the only way to describe it is KoЯn. Even in their dubstep album somehow sounds like KoЯn.

30 My Chemical Romance My Chemical Romance was an American rock band from Jersey City, New Jersey, active from 2001 to 2013. For much of their career, the band consisted of lead vocalist Gerard Way, guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, bassist Mikey Way, and drummer Bob Bryar.

I have yet to find a band come near the ranks of My Chemical Romance in terms of their style of musical elements and lyrical quality.

I love My Chemical Romance, they inspired me and helped me get through the hardest.

They're just amazing, they are original, don't care about the haters, and just made the music they wanted to make, even if it neer really fit into a genre.

Is there anything there is band can't do? Yeah, last.

31 Sigur Ros Sigur Rós is an Icelandic post-rock band from Reykjavík, who have been active since 1994. Known for their ethereal sound, frontman Jónsi Birgisson's falsetto vocals, and the use of bowed guitar, the band's music is also noticeable for its incorporation of classical and minimalist aesthetic elements. more.

Weirdest and most abstract band of the past 20 years. Also most original, their sound is like nothing you have ever heard before or probably ever will again.

Beautiful songs and style. They even invented kind of language that makes use of the voice to fit the sound. Unique.

No band sounds like them…it's like they are from another planet. Sigur Rós redefines music. Samskeyti is one of their songs that is built on just one continuos piano riff, but each time Kjartan plays it, it sounds fresh and different. It's a band that changes the listener for life. Jonsi reinvented the bowed guitar which is the primary element of many songs.

32 Primus Primus is an American rock band based in San Francisco, California, currently composed of bassist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Tim Alexander. Les Claypool is regarded as one of the best bassists of all time for his slap-bass ability in notable songs like "My Name Is Mud", "The Toys more.

They have an iTubes/Winamp genre categorization : Primus.
Nobody sings like Les (apart from The Residents, maybe).
Nobody plays a melody quite like Ler.
No drummer has quite the Herb sound.
And nobody basses like Les.
And no one,
no one,
writes a song like they do.

Not meaning they are the best. Just that they are a one-of-a-kind. - JoLeKosovo

I can't think of anything that sounds like this band with loads of great songs to boot and funny videos and just of the record who in the lucifers balls put evanescence on this list must have serious musical problems

without a doubt they are completely unlike anyone else. You can love'em or hate'em, but you can't deny originality. Pink Floyd definitely numbah 1 tho. - IknowAlotAboutMusic

SO ORIGINAL. There is literally no other band like them. And Les Claypool's lyrics are awesome.

33 AC/DC AC/DC are a Australian hard rock band, formed in November 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, who continued as members until Malcolm's illness and departure in 2014 . First Punk-Pop band ever and are the best live

Best band ever. They sound amazing live.

Must be in top 10! Because they are actual band and they do "rock" with rock instruments only

The creators of pop-punk.

35 Genesis Genesis are an English rock band formed at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey in 1967. The most commercially successful and long-lasting line-up includes keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford and drummer/singer Phil Collins.

Representing prog rock at its zenith, early Genesis combined complex, classical-jazz influenced songwriting with virtuoso musicianship to create several genre-defining masterpieces. From the haunting, ethereal chords of "Watchers of the Skies" and breathtaking piano & guitar solos of "Firth of Fifth" to the epic "Supper's Ready" and effortless 7/8 & 4/4 mash up of "Cinema Show," Not to mention many classics on "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway." Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford & Steve Hackett were at the top of their game. Highly innovative and memorable structures & melodies, especially on album, "Selling England By The Pound."

Few to no covers, and one of if not the first to feature finger tapping and sweep picking guitar.

36 Black Sabbath Black Sabbath were a Heavy Metal band formed in Birmingham, England in 1968 by guitarist and songwriter Tony Iommi, singer John "Ozzy" Osbourne, bassist and main lyricist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward. more.

If it wasn't for Black Sabbath they'll be no Metallica, Megadeth, Iron maiden, disturbed, Slipknot, Korn, AC/DC and every other metal band that ever existed!

They created metal. I just added this, so vote it up, metal fans!

Pioneers of a whole new era way back when and demand respect

First metal band ever, and the best band in the universe

37 King Crimson King Crimson is a British progressive rock band that was formed in 1969. While the band has had numerous lineup changes, the head of the band has always been Robert Fripp (guitar). However, the most notable lineup is between 1972-75, consisting of Fripp, John Wetton (bass/vocals), Bill Bruford (drums), more.

I really don't understand why they aren't in the top three. They have influenced basically every band on this list some way or another. I'm not saying that hate everything else on the list I'm just saying it should be top 3 at least.

King Crimson is a band everyone should listen to. They have beautiful ballads, sweet melodies and very heavy technical experimental stuff too. Most original and most interesting.

Pretty much invented one of my favorite genres of music, progressive Rock. - Pony

This is by my opinion the most innovative band ever. They paved the way for NIN.

38 Avenged Sevenfold Avenged Sevenfold is an American heavy metal band, that was formed 1999 in California. Their longest lineup of members was M. Shadows (Vocals), Synyster Gates (Lead Guitar), Zacky Vengeance (Rhythm Guitar), Johnny Christ (Bass Guitar), and The Rev (Drums). more.

Nooo.. Should be number 1

Avenged Sevenfold is a respectable band with great song.
Nightmare and Afterlife are GOLD from gothic P.O.w

39 The Ramones The Ramones were an American punk rock band that formed in the New York City neighborhood of Forest Hills, Queens, in 1974. They are often cited as the first band to define the punk rock sound.

Come on! How the hell are the Ramones not into the top 10!?

40 Opeth Opeth is a Swedish progressive death metal band from Stockholm, formed in 1990 by David Isberg, who invited Mikael Akerfeldt into the band as a bassist. Isberg ended up leaving the band, which lead to Mikael becoming the band's vocalist, guitarist, principal songwriter, and driving force. Along with more.

How are Opeth not in the top 3? Their sound is so unique in the fact it seamlessly blends folk, death metal, and even jazz, with very beautiful melodic parts. The transitions between extremely heavy and melodic and beautiful work so perfectly, and never before have I heard growls mixed with cleans in such a stark contrast, but at the same time goes together so well. This is a unique brand of progressive rock/metal that will leave your mind blown, and at the same time utterly tranquil. The dark beauty of this band is completely addicting, and I have never heard anything like it. I know this rant is all over the place, but come on its Opeth we are talking about, they are all over the place too in a great way!

Opeth is one of those bands you really like, but sadly only a few people know them. - Pony

42 Rolling Stones

How in the world are they behind Linkin Park

43 Evanescence Evanescence is an American rock band founded in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1995 by singer/pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody.

You've got to be kidding me. They do NOT define gothic rock. Bauhaus, killing joke, and siouxsie and the banshees define gothic rock.

They define goth rock!

Hreay band with great music!

44 Panic! at the Disco Panic! at the Disco is an American pop rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2004 and featuring the current lineup of vocalist Brendon Urie, accompanied on tour by bassist Dallon Weekes, guitarist Kenneth Harris, and drummer Dan Pawlovich.

They are the most unique band I have ever heard in my entire life, and I took a liking to them at the age of 6. It nay be a bit young, but they must be something special for a kindergartener to take such an interest. To this day, they still blow my mind, and chills run down my spine every time I hear the introduction to I Write Sins, Not Tragedies. They have such a unique style and theme, 1930's to be exact. Their first album was alternative, pop punk, and even cabaret or baroque. The album gives me this feeling of joy, strength, mystery, burlesque, and even a little lust at times. It's just hard to find the words that I feel when I hear them. Even though half of the original members left, their legacy will live on because nothing was the same without them. As the remaining two members rise to fame, the other two went off to create a new band. Now, they lay low, thinking that they were forgotten, but actually, some of us patiently wait for the day when they reunite to continue their ...more

They are unique and original

Definitely original. I don't know why he's so far down the list.

He should be ton top

47 MGMT MGMT is an American rock band formed in 2002 by Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden. After the release of their first album, the members of their live band, Matthew Asti, James Richardson and Will Berman, joined the core band in the studio.
48 The Doors The Doors were an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles, with vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore.

Jim Morrison is the prototype of ALL "frontmen" for rock bands, and every one of them since then owes him a debt of gratitude. Before him, all such singers were solo acts. He defined the role then, and still defines it today as the GOAT; Greatest Of All Time.

No one was like The Doors and no one ever will be

49 Twenty One Pilots Twenty One Pilots is an American musical duo that is originally from Columbus, Ohio, who are best known for their songs "Stressed Out", "Heathens" and "Ride". Currently there are two members, Tyler Joseph (lead vocals, piano, keyboards, synthesizers, ukulele, bass and guitar) and Josh Dun (drums and more.

They're the exact opposite of original. No creativity, no uniqueness, no innovation, they're just another generic bland group.

One of the best bands of all time when it comes to integrating different kinds of music. Rap, edm, hip hop, classical. Lead singer Tyler Joseph can really put on a show as well. Their music is most unique for its message.

50 Rage Against the Machine Rage Against the Machine is a rock band formed in Los Angeles, California. The band consists of vocalist Zack de la Rocha, bassist Tim Commerford, guitarist Tom Morello and drummer Brad Wilk.

If you want to stump somebody, just ask them to name any band, past or present, that is even remotely the same as RATM. Those funky bass lines combined with Tom Morello's legendary and incomparable guitar riffs, plus Zack de la Rocha's intriguing pitch, flow, and temperament make RATM the most out there and musically unmatched band ever! I don't know how it could possibly be so far down on the list! Maybe the most unique band on the planet!
