Top 10 Most Overrated Actors and Actresses

Can't figure out what all the hype is with a particular actor? Put 'em on the list.
The Top Ten
1 Angelina Jolie Angelina Jolie is an American actress, filmmaker, and humanitarian. She has received an Academy Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards. She has also been cited as Hollywood's highest-paid actress... read more

Everything about Jolie is overrated: her acting "skills," her "parenting time," her so-called charitable causes. Over half her films have tanked at the box office, and the characters she inhabits in them are essentially the same: Angelina Jolie. UN ambassador? Jolie is merely one of several for one UN agency. The 39 other UN agencies employ hundreds of celebrities to advertise their causes.

Her photo-ops with impoverished children are virtually bogus. And acquiring six kids in six years is no evidence of any maternal streak. Some people collect baseball cards, Jolie collects kids, no doubt to serve as props for her photo-ops. When has she had time for "mothering" them? Ask any working mother. As well as being vastly overrated, the woman is phony through and through.

She had never heard of the Kosovo war, Bosnia, Serbia, until recently? What planet was she on? Rhetorical question. It was what it still is: the World of Angelina Jolie.

2 Jennifer Lopez Jennifer Lynn Lopez, also known as J. Lo, is an American singer, actress, dancer, fashion designer, author and producer.

Jennifer Lopez is a classic example of what some might call an "anybody" with a "pork snout" face that, only with the wonders of plastic surgery, is now considered ever so beautiful. Oh, what it is to afford great plastic surgery...

She also seemingly has the personality and intelligence appeal of a Vaseline sandwich, which could be why all her exes dumped her in a short time. Only her less attractive husband has remained. She does not have a singing voice. It's highly refined only through today's technological alterations. Notice the multiple background singers cutting in to diminish her screeching. It is her svengali's idea because she can barely act on screen. I'd be surprised if all the money he pumps into her presence lasts one more year. You can fool some of the people some of the time?

3 Kristen Stewart Kristen Jaymes Stewart (born April 9, 1990) is an American actress and filmmaker. The world's highest-paid actress in 2012, she has received various accolades, including a British Academy Film Award and a César Award, in addition to nominations for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award... read more

I am a huge fan of science fiction and, in particular, vampire movies. My wife also really enjoys the same thing. The entire series of Twilight was horrible for me because of this one actress. She does not provide believability in her role. She is depressing to watch, but it is not acting. She seems to be depressing in all things.

A good actor has the ability to be different than they are in real life. The role needs to dictate the mood and needs to transcend. The role needs to bring the viewer into the scene. Her acting makes me want to leave the theatre or turn off the television.

4 Emma Watson Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is a British actress, model, and activist. Born in Paris and brought up in Oxfordshire, Watson attended the Dragon School as a child and trained as an actress at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts.

My child and I regularly burst out laughing while watching the Harry Potter movies, simply because of her intensely bad acting. We ended up barely able to watch them anymore because of her. And since, I sometimes see these "star" photographs of her, with comments about her being the epitome of beauty, etc. - that's another howler... She is one of the most profoundly ordinary-looking girls I have ever seen. There is nothing spectacular or remarkable about her looks at all... So weird...

The only reason anyone likes her is because Hermione is a relatable character. It had nothing to do with what she added with her performance, and she's been saved by fans' avid love for a book character that they mistakenly see synonymously as Emma. She pretends she's just as strong a woman as Hermione is when she's just not (and not good at pretending she is either).

5 Jennifer Aniston Jennifer Joanna Aniston is an American actress, producer, and businesswoman. The daughter of Greek actor John Aniston and American actress Nancy Dow, Aniston gained worldwide recognition for portraying Rachel Green on the popular television sitcom Friends, a role which earned her a Primetime Emmy Award,... read more

Agreed, she's not a good actress and seems to have the best publicist in Hollywood. She doesn't take on any dramas, and never adopts accents. At 46, one would think she could manage an accent or speak another language. When listening to her interviews, she stammers and doesn’t complete her sentences.

On Ellen, she participated in the "repeat after me" scene, and while discussing birds... Ellen told her to ask the guy they were joking with, “Do you like finches, you know, common birds,” and Jennifer asked, “Do you like fishes?” She's not the most articulate woman.

One last thing, her Aveeno commercials. You can tell that she's been practicing the word "results." "Aveeno simply beautiful results" sounds so forced. Hollywood is run by actors these days, so if you have your own production company, you pretty much have the movie in the bag. Hopefully, the academy will stay true to giving Oscars to people who are truly talented.

6 Ben Affleck Benjamin Geza Affleck-Boldt is an American actor and filmmaker. His accolades include two Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, two BAFTA Awards, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Looking at these comments, I am convinced that Ben Affleck has found this site himself and informed Matt Damon, Jimmy Kimmel, and a few of his other friends to get on here and say good things about him and his "acting skills". Truth be told, Ben Affleck is subpar. Yes, he was good in Argo, The Town, and maybe even Gone Girl, but only in that because he had to play a big, dumb, clueless idiot, which is a role he is fit for.

Yet Hollywood keeps casting him to play these harder, tougher characters like Batman, a role I'm sure he will struggle with because, well...if he couldn't cut it as Daredevil, how the hell is he going to cut it as Batman? I'll never understand how he keeps getting cast. He seems more like a manager or supervisor at a Home Depot than an actor.

7 Natalie Portman Natalie Portman is an actress, film producer and film director with dual American and Israeli citizenship. Portman is best known for her roles as Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and Nina Sayers in Black Swan. She won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award,... read more

She is nice to look at when I'm not bored to tears. She was only a kid when she did The Professional, and it's not like she had to do a lot of acting in that movie. It's been downhill ever since, and yet she gets tons of respect from critics as an actress because she went to Harvard, and she's considered to be intelligent and liberal. However, that doesn't mean someone is great at acting.

Everyone blamed the undeniably stilted dialog in the Star Wars films for her horrid performance. Great actors and actresses are supposed to make the characters they play more compelling, even if they have little to work with. She has a machine-like focus and is devoid of all emotion in her movies. She could play a great serial killer.

8 Brad Pitt William Bradley "Brad" Pitt (born December 18, 1963) is an American actor and producer. He has received a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and three Academy Award nominations in acting categories and received three further Academy Award nominations, winning one, as producer under his... read more

Brad came to Hollywood for one reason - to be famous. He was a starstruck little boy and wanted to be a big deal too. Acting was the only way for him to gain reverence. Being a good actor is not really all that important to him or Angie. They just want the publicity, the PR, and the magazine covers.

As soon as we stop drooling over pretty faces and stop buying the music and watching the movies, maybe Hollywood will bring talent back. Remember when you had to be good to be a movie star? Do you think Dustin, Duvall, De Niro, Nicholson, would be able to make it in Hollywood today? No way. Not pretty enough. We do this to ourselves by what we watch and what we purchase. The Oscars are a joke! Julia Roberts? I'll never get over that one.

9 Paris Hilton Paris Whitney Hilton is an American businesswoman, socialite, television personality, model, actress, singer, DJ, and author.

She can't act at all! I don't know how she even got into "House of Wax." If it wasn't for her rich grandfather's last name and her attractive looks, she wouldn't have gotten a reality TV program with Nicole Richie. It must be due to her last name and their last names.

She's rich, but she is not pretty and she is not talented. I am not rich, pretty, or talented. If I could choose one to be, I would choose rich. She's doing great even if she cannot act, because money cannot buy everything, including talent. 1 out of 3 isn't bad.

She is one of the most untalented people I've ever seen, and trust me, I've seen a lot. If it wasn't for her last name, she wouldn't be anywhere in life.

10 Adam Sandler Adam Richard Sandler is an American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and film producer. After becoming a Saturday Night Live cast member, Sandler went on to star in many Hollywood feature films that combined have grossed over $2 billion at the box office.

Punch Drunk Love was incredible, and that's it for ol' Sandler here. Let's all admit that his performance in Punch Drunk Love was all due to strong writing and direction. If it weren't for low-brow middle-school boys growing up in the late '80s, this man would have zero careers. There are no words for how untalented he is. I have avoided his movies at all costs, even leaving friends' homes to do ANYthing but watch a single frame of Adam Sandler's obnoxious way of doing just about everything.

How did this individual ever get himself billed as a comedian? My guess is that he invoked the power of suggestion: he basically said he was a comedian, then sat back and let the world mistakenly assume that, with false advertising laws and whatnot, he couldn't do that unless he was indeed somehow funny. (Talk about using a term loosely.)

The Contenders
11 Robert Pattinson Robert Douglas Thomas Pattinson is an English actor, producer, model, and musician. He started his film career by playing Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, a 2005 fantasy film.

I have to say he and Kristen make a good couple for a constant appearance at the Golden Raspberry Awards. Apart from that, he is fine, a little bit immature, though. I mean, at least he is a better actor than Kristen, who certainly knows little about acting and facial expressions. Sad story.

Definitely NOT attractive. Very immature on screen. Although the Twilight books & films were the worst things I've ever read/seen, so he really didn't have a lot to work with there...

How is this guy ranked behind Brad Pitt? Seriously, a man who plays a moody vampire, who is attractive to 10-year-old girls, is apparently better than Lt. Aldo Raine in Inglourious Basterds or Tyler Durden in Fight Club. It makes no sense.

12 Scarlett Johansson Scarlett Johansson (born November 22, 1984) is an American actress, model, and singer. She made her film debut in North.

Johansson is considered one of Hollywood's modern sex symbols, and has frequently appeared in published lists of the sexiest women in the world. As of February 2017, she is... read more

She always plays the same character, who interestingly enough, always has the same vacant look. Many people claim she is "subtle," but that would imply something good. What I think is, Scarlett Johansson is completely lackluster, in reality. As far as her being a sex symbol, maybe her body, but facially, like I said, vacant. There is no fire. It isn't even a dreamy vacant. She is boring, usually way overdone with the makeup and tight clothing. I find her to be one of the most over-hyped "hotties" of Hollywood.

13 Megan Fox Megan Denise Fox is an American actress and model. She began her acting career in 2001, with several minor television and film roles, and played a regular role on the Hope & Faith television sitcom.

I've never liked Megan Fox. I've never thought she was a good actor. I think all the movies she was in were mediocre, except for the TMNT movies because I have a soft spot for them. I also never really thought she was attractive. All she is is just a pretty face (like said, never really thought she was pretty, but others do). She is overrated.

Another horribly talentless, surgically-enhanced embarrassment skating by on her looks. Seriously, Hollywood, if you have to make every female starring role some kind of cookie-cutter femme-bot, at least find one that can act. I like attractive actresses as much as the next guy, but I can't stand watching her. It's a shame... Transformers could have been so epic.

14 Nicolas Cage Nicolas Kim Coppola, known professionally as Nicolas Cage, is an American actor and producer. He is well known for his roles in Raising Arizona, Moonstruck, Vampire's Kiss, Wild at Heart, Honeymoon in Vegas, Red Rock West, Leaving Las Vegas, The Rock, Con Air, Face/Off, City of Angels, 8MM, Bringing... read more

Nicolas Cage should find a cage far away from Hollywood and lock himself in it. This man has absolutely zero talent. His expressions get worse as he ages. And by expressions, I mean expression, because this man has absolutely no emotion or range in his acting abilities. You'd think he had plastic surgery, but he hasn't. He just fails at showing any sort of emotion and, therefore, fails at his only job: acting.

I hope directors put him on a blacklist of actors not to cast, to save us all the trouble of seeing his face on screen ever again. Talentless. Emotionless. And hopefully soon jobless.

15 Matthew McConaughey Matthew David McConaughey (born November 4, 1969) is an American actor. He had his breakout role with a supporting performance in the coming-of-age comedy Dazed and Confused (1993). After a number of supporting roles, his first success as a leading man came in the legal drama A Time to Kill (1996)... read more

His ridiculous, overdone, speech mannerisms make me want to kick him in the teeth until he can pronounce the letter "s" without deliberately whistling it. He must think that makes him sexy, so he does it all the time. Once you pick up on it, it becomes obvious and completely pulls you out of whatever you are watching with this buffoon in it.

And he can't really act. He just does Matthew McConaughey ALL THE TIME. He's an incredibly annoying individual. He should limit himself to underwear commercials. He'd be spot-on in those because then we wouldn't have to look at his face.

16 Jessica Alba Jessica Marie Alba is an American actress, model and businesswoman. She has won various awards for her acting, including the Choice Actress Teen Choice Award and Saturn Award for Best Actress on Television, and a Golden Globe nomination for her lead role in the television series Dark Angel.

'The Eye' was the worst movie I have seen in a long while. She never seems to have a true main objective while she is portraying any of her characters, and her line delivery is just atrocious. Her tactics are inconsistent, displaying erratic emotions and blank stares with her huge eyes. Biting/licking your lips is not a feeling or an emotion, even though she seems to think so! Emotion should be conveyed through acting, not just through facial expressions!

She can't act her way out of a plastic bag. I've seen a brick wall with more talent. She is rude and seems unintelligent, although I'm not sure if that's just put on for the cameras. Plus, her looks are definitely overrated. There are far more attractive actresses. I don't find her even slightly appealing!

17 Leonardo DiCaprio Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio (born November 11, 1974) is an American actor and film producer. Known for his work in biopics and period films, he is the recipient of numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and three Golden Globe Awards. As of 2019, his films have grossed... read more

I would vote for him if Tom Cruise wasn't higher on the list. Anyway, just dropping by this comment: He plays the same guy in every movie, and yes, he does it well, but damn, this guy has no range. Plus, everyone talks about him deserving an Oscar and all, he has got too much publicity. He works with good directors, he does good work. He works with bad directors, he does bad work. Makes you wonder. Also, he has no screen presence, and even his dialogue delivery is questionable. Plus, his accent seems so fake. Fake pain, fake happiness, fake everything. He's good at best. Not "one of the best" out there. Thank you.

18 Jennifer Lawrence Jennifer Shrader Lawrence is an American actress. Lawrence began her career in television, playing her first major role as a main cast member on the TBS sitcom The Bill Engvall Show.

Oh my God, I searched this entire list JUST FOR HER! Before you all give my comment a thumbs down, please hear me out. (=

1. I'll admit she's a good actress overall… But not in The Hunger Games. All she does is stare at people with her face slightly agape (Kristen Stewart, anyone?). Why did she even get cast as Katniss? Isn't Katniss supposed to be starved?

2. Her looks are SO overrated. I'm a guy. I'm not just being "jealous." She looks like a whale! She's always shiny with her blubber oil! So gross! She has FOLDS!

3. She has a horrible personality. She's just so smug. When she beat Meryl Streep (who, although she is also overrated, is better than Lawrence), she was just like, "What can I say? I beat Meryl!" That's just SO STUCK UP! She's a good actress, and she knows it, but she doesn't have to be so open about it. BE HUMBLE!

Thank you, that is all.

19 George Clooney George Timothy Clooney is an American actor, filmmaker and activist. He has received three Golden Globe Awards for his work as an actor and two Academy Awards, one for acting and the other for producing.

In every one of his films, he doesn't even exert enough effort to immerse me in the suspense of disbelief. Why? Because all of the characters he portrays (especially in Ocean's 11, 12, 13) are always that cocky, rich bachelor that really annoys the living daylights out of me.

Not to mention, his role as Batman (in Batman & Robin) still remains that cocky bachelor that I despise. How the heck did he still have an acting career after that pile of garbage? None of his movies ever entertained me but rather aggravated me. There are SO many actors out there working hard to get into the movie industry, and it insults me to see that Clooney doesn't even try in ANY of his movies.

20 Gwyneth Paltrow Gwyneth Kate Paltrow is an American actress, model, writer, businesswoman, singer, and author. She has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including an Academy Award, an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award.

Great actress in terrific movies? Emma was one? Look for the "Emma" movie version with Kate Beckinsale (A real British actress with no fake bad British accent like Gwyneth Paltrow and, most of all, better looking and more talented than Gwyneth Paltrow!). This movie alone already proves that Gwyneth Paltrow is too overrated when you see the Kate Beckinsale version.

What a flake! So far up herself, she's a joke. Probably one of the most annoying, talentless, and stupid women on the planet.

ANNOYING TO WATCH this ugly and untalented person who thinks she can do it all. Who the hell does she think she is!

21 Will Ferrell John William "Will" Ferrell is an American actor, comedian, producer, and writer. He first established himself in the mid-1990s as a cast member on the NBC sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live.

He plays the same character, just in a different situation, in every single movie. He gets lucky and has good writers, so a lot of his movies are really funny and very quotable; Anchorman is a good example. However, his acting gets boring and repetitive. I find myself quoting him and then forgetting from which movie the quote actually came, all too often.

I agree that, for the most part, he is a bad actor. He is a decent comedian when a flick is well-paced and scripted, but only when he has a good supporting cast, which often reflects more on them in that case, in my opinion. I have to say I do like quite a few of his movies, but a lot of the ones that depend on him to carry are unwatchable for me.

22 Tom Cruise Thomas Cruise Mapother IV is an American actor and producer. He has received various accolades for his work, including three Golden Globe Awards and three nominations for Academy Awards. He is one of the highest-paid actors in the world.

He's such an arrogant person. I almost lost my cookies when I saw him walking through the hangar of the aircraft carrier the U.S.S. Ranger CV-61 in 1982, with Val Kilmer and the rest of the "Top Gun" crew. Besides, he is a very controlling person and out of touch with reality. He only stands five feet five inches tall. I even had to pat him on the back during the shooting of "Top Gun" when he splashed 5 planes for the movie right after he landed on the Ranger. The F-14 squadron had to put blocks on the pedals inside the F-14 so he could reach the pedals. He has the same personality in every movie he has made. Let's face it, he can't act! All of his wives left him for pushing his cult faith down their throats, being too arrogant, and super controlling!

23 Johnny Depp John Christopher "Johnny" Depp II (born June 9, 1963) is an American actor, producer, and musician. He has won the Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor... read more

Now, I wouldn't say that Johnny Depp is a bad actor, as I believe that he has talent, but many of his roles are similar.
It seems that many girls/women love him because they consider him attractive, which could be one of the reasons for his fame (but I'm an idiot anyway, so don't quote me on that). The only movie starring Johnny Depp that I really liked was Edward Scissorhands.

He had a good start, but he has since become a parody of himself. He's extremely overrated. It's like every movie he's in nowadays is just an excuse for him to wear a lot of makeup and reprise his weirdo guy character. The fact that he was even nominated for Best Actor for Pirates of the Caribbean is pretty much a travesty.

24 Sean Penn Sean Justin Penn is an American actor, filmmaker, and political activist. He has won two Academy Awards, for his roles in the mystery drama Mystic River and the biopic Milk.

I've never understood the hype surrounding this guy. The only good performance he ever gave was in Carlito's Way. Apart from that, he just goes through the motions for every part he plays. I never understood why The Thin Red Line was considered good. Sean Penn just ruined it for me. His acting was the only problem I had with The Game. He's just a guy with connections who tries to look convincing. It's one thing to appear intense, but it's a completely different thing to genuinely emote. You would think that someone influenced by Robert De Niro would know this.

25 Charlize Theron Charlize Theron is a South African and American actress, film producer and model. She is the recipient of several accolades, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and the Silver Bear for Best Actress.

Absolutely overrated. She is far from the worst actress, but she's wooden and unconvincing in most of her work. Her "acting" frequently feels more like striking a pose in an outfit than actually being in the moment. She might be described as one of the best of the "models turned actress", which is hardly a compliment.

One of the worst actresses. Have you seen The Devil's Advocate? She ruined the movie. She just ruined it. She seems like a very difficult person, too, and anyone would look nice with all that makeup and airbrushing.
