Most Overrated Black Celebrities

A list of the most overexposed and overrated African American celebs.
The Top Ten
1 Beyonce Knowles Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, is an American singer and actress, who started out in the popular pop/r&b girl group Destiny's Child. They had multiple top 5 hits such as "No, No, No", "Say My Name", "Bills, Bills, Bills", "Survivor", "Independent Women", "Bootylicious", and "Jumpin', Jumpin" from 1999 to 2004. After they broke up in 2006, Beyonce pursued her solo career, creating smash hits such as "Crazy In Love", "Single Ladies", "Halo", "Partition", "Irreplaceable", "Drunk In Love", "Baby Boy", "Beautiful Liar", "7/11", and "Run The World (Girls)", and has since become one of the most influential performers and biggest celebrities of the 21st century.

I knew that Beyonce would be #1 on this list when I first saw the title of this list. Also, it's no surprise that several of the celebrities on this list have lighter skin than most other black people. That shows how much colorism can overhype a light skinned black celebrity. Beyonce is the most overrated out of all of them.

Beyonce is the Queen of Overrated. Not just among black celebrities, but all celebrities in general. Also, I just noticed something when I made this comment. The 3 black celebrities that are the highest on this list have lighter skin than the average black person. Colorism did play a major role in why there's so much ridiculous hype around Beyonce, Rihanna, and Mariah Carey.

American media tries so hard to make her a Queen and it looks ridiculous. She would be nothing without family support and countless commercial. She is ZERO personality who copies other artists all the time. Nothing she does is her own. What a FAKE!

She's beautiful, can sing and dance. But don't force me to make her out to be a great songwriter (i.e., "Bootilscious", "Check On It", "Upgrade U") or a serious actress. If she wasn't pretty, we wouldn't be interested.

2 Rihanna Robyn Rihanna Fenty is a Barbadian-American pop singer. Born in Saint Michael and raised in Bridgetown, she first entered the music industry by recording demo tapes under the direction of record producer Evan Rogers in 2003. She ultimately signed a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings after auditioning ...read more.

She's pretty... But she just has an nice accent when she "sings" and did I forget to say that she's pretty? She was better when she first came out, but now, I don't like her stuff at all. It seems like she's in the illuminati and she is an AVERAGE SINGER.

hey guys, did you even hear her live singing? She sounds like my nightmare. Rihanna should be no.1 in this list. She's real NO Talent!

Rihanna benefitted more from colorism than any other black singer, except Mariah Carey and Beyonce.

Hideous as a face like an old lady and a down syndrome forehead. She is fugseriously

3 Mariah Carey Mariah Carey, born March 27, 1970, is an American singer, songwriter and actress. She is one of the biggest best-selling women in the music industry, with 18 number 1 records to her name. She is regarded as a sex symbol through her songs and music videos, and she is "well known" for her over-the-top sexy poses and for having breast implants. She is also known to be a diva, and she is well known for... read more

She was good when she started her career and she was a powerhouse singing songs like Vision of Love, Emotions, Dreamlover, Hero, I Don't Wanna Cry and Prisoner, but after the disaster known as "Honey" happened her music started going down in quality and so did her voice.

She is overrated, but at least she did not heavily rely on sex to become famous. That sets her apart from several other recent, famous female singers.

I think she's mostly overhyped because she don't look black.

4 Aaliyah Aaliyah Dana Haughton was born on January 16th 1979 and died August 25th 2001. She was a dancer, an actress and an R&B singer. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, raised in Detroit, Michigan and died at Marsh Harbour, Bahamas. ...read more.

Quite overrated

5 Cardi B Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar (born October 11, 1992), known professionally as Cardi B, is an American rapper. Born and raised in New York City, she became an Internet celebrity by achieving popularity on Vine and Instagram. From 2015 to 2017, she appeared as a regular cast member on the VH1 reality television series Love & Hip Hop: New York, which depicted her pursuit of her music aspirations. She... read more

Cardi-B has terrible morals. She's graceless, negative and only negative and unnecessary things come out of her mouth. Very problematic and has probably offended pretty much everyone by know. She is the Spanish equivalence to Azealia Banks but worse. But Cardi isn't black so she shouldn't even be on this list.

Another overrated woman that owes her fame to colorism.

6 Lil Wayne Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. is an American rapper from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was discovered by Brian "Baby" "Birdman" Williams at a very young age, and was signed to Cash Money Records, where he would be one quarter of the rap group Hot Boys. In the years to follow, he would go on to find his own label, Young Money, where he would sign popular artists such as Drake, Nicki Minaj and Tyga, and he would go on to be one of the most popular rappers of all time. ...read more.
7 Ice Cube
8 Mike Tyson Michael Gerard Tyson (born June 30, 1966) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1985 to 2005. He reigned as the undisputed world heavyweight champion and holds the record as the youngest boxer to win a heavyweight title at 20 years, four months and 22 days old.

Why did he get so much credit for doing something that several other boxers had done? At least the boxers that defeated Julian Jackson, Sonny Liston, John Mugabi, Roberto Duran, Gerald Mcclellan, or Earnie Shavers were better pound-for-pound boxers than Buster Douglas. Shavers fought a young Larry Holmes. Tyson didn't. Also, Tyson fans had used the 'he was past his prime' excuse for his losses, even though Holyfield and Lewis were past their prime when they fought him.

Tyson is very overrated. He was as much of a cheater as Lance Armstrong, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, James Toney, and Roy Jones Jr. Tyson being a cheater looked much more obvious than most other athletes that cheated.

He's too overrated by people that aren't casual boxing fans.

That whole comment is true. The guy was also a steroid user.

9 Jay-Z Shawn Corey Carter, known by his stage name JAY-Z, is an American rapper, record producer, entrepreneur and investor born on December 4, 1969 in Brooklyn, New York. He is best known for his albums Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, and The Black Album. He is considered to be one of the best rappers of all time.

Along with Kanye and Drake, Jay-Z is among the most overrated rappers that is neither white nor female.

Jay-Z is the 2nd most overrated rapper that is not white nor female.

Nobody knows if he's gay beyond a reasonable doubt.

He's in his 50s now. He does look like he crossed that line several years earlier.

10 Chris Brown Christopher Maurice "Chris" Brown (born May 5, 1989) is an American singer, songwriter, dancer and actor. Born in Tappahannock, Virginia, he was involved in his church choir and several local talent shows from a young age. He is most well known for his physical assault towards the singer Rihanna in 2009. He is also known for many hit singles, such as "Kiss Kiss", "Run It!", "Forever", "Deuces", "Look At Me Now", "Loyal", "Ayo", and "Back to Sleep".

His career only still exists because of colorism. If he had the skin tone of Neyo or Tyrese Gibson, Chris Brown's career would of ended after that beating.

Go to jail, Chris Brown!

The Contenders
11 Nicki Minaj Onika Tanya Maraj, known professionally as Nicki Minaj (born December 8, 1982) is a Trinidadian/American rapper / pop music artist. Minaj is most known for her songs such as "Anaconda", "Super Bass", "Starships" and her feature on "Bang Bang". Despite her controversial songs, Brent Staples from "The New York Times" claimed her to be 'the most influential female rapper of all time', presumably distinctive for her fast flow and her use of alter egos with Cockney accent. She has endorsed Adidas, MAC Cosmetics and Pepsi. Minaj has received ten Grammy-nominations throughout her career, and has won multiple awards including the Billboard's Women in Music 2011 Rising Star award.

She should be in the top 3 of this list. Plus, I don't get why Chris Brown, O.J. Simpson, and Bill Cosby are on this list. Those guys became more hated than liked.

She is ok... (but just look at her face in that picture! )

She is a stupid ho

12 Kendrick Lamar Kendrick Lamar Duckworth (born June 17, 1987) is an American rapper and songwriter. Raised in Compton, California, Lamar embarked on his musical career as a teenager under the stage name K-Dot, releasing a mixtape that garnered local attention and led to his signing with indie record label Top Dawg ...read more.

He's one of the greatest rapper ever!

13 Floyd Mayweather Jr. Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr. is an American former professional boxer and current boxing promoter. "Pretty boy" Floyd or "Money" Mayweather is widely considered to be one of the greatest if not the greatest boxer in boxing history. Floyd Mayweather has had success not only inside the ring, but outside as a worthy businessman. Mayweather has had some of the largest if not the largest box office ratings in HBO history and has rightfully owned the sport of boxing for more than a decade.

I'm not concerned with what Mayweather and some wrestler did in a fake, racist sport, but Mayweather is definitely overrated. That big comment explains that perfectly. He's the 2nd most overrated boxer. At least he didn't use steroids, unlike the one boxer rated higher on this list.

It's very dumb that his fans treat him like he's a devastating boxer when he didn't even score a knockout in many of his big fights. While Rocky Marciano was overrated, at least Marciano showed that he was a devastating boxer. Marciano did not play 'keep away' in his fights, and unlike what Mayweather did with Shane, Miguel, and Manny, Marciano did not wait for his best opponents to be past their best days before fighting them. Also, Oscar and Castillo were the real winners when they fought Mayweather, the most overrated boxer in history.

Mayweather's best moment in the ring was when the wrestler known as the Big Show threw him out of the ring.

He's too overpaid, especially for someone who plays 'keep away' in many of his big fights.

14 Drake Aubrey Drake Graham, known professionally as Drake, is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor, born on October 24, 1986 in Toronto, Canada. He started his career on Canadian reality show "Degrassi: The Next Generation".

An overrated rapper that owes his fame to colorism.

15 Kanye West Ye (born Kanye Omari West; June 8, 1977) is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer and fashion designer. He is regarded as one of the most influential, as well as controversial, artists of the 21st century. ...read more.

He was good up until he sacrificed his own mother for fame and married a stupid kardashian!

An overrated rapper who's saying illogical crap as a means to remain relevant.

Racist, sexist, and is not very good at rapping with! To add even more, he is married to kim kartrashian!

Kanye West is the most overrated rapper that is not white nor female.

16 The Notorious B.I.G. Christopher George Latore Wallace, born May 21, 1972, better known by his stage name The Notorious B.I.G (sometimes Biggie Smalls or just simply Biggie), is an American rapper from Brooklyn, New York. On March 9, 1997, he was murdered in a drive by shooting in Los Angeles, California at the age of only 24. To this day it’s unknown who murdered him. ...read more.
17 Tyga Micheal Ray Stevenson, known by his stage name Tyga, is an American hip hop recording artist. In 2011, Tyga signed a recording contract with Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money Records and Republic Records.

He's only famous for an overrated(and pedophilic) relationship with an overrated hoe. If that hoe(as well as the rest of her overrated family) had been black, she never would of been famous.

18 Halle Berry Halle Maria Berry is an American actress. Berry won the 2002 Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the romantic drama Monster's Ball. As of 2018, she is the only black woman to have won the award.

She owes much of her fame to colorism, though she's not as liked now as she was over ten years ago. Aging can cause that to female celebrities that are only famous for their looks. Noticed that Pamela Anderson and Naomi Campbell became less famous later in their life?

She's not as overrated as she used to be. It's probably because her looks, the main thing that made her famous, is going away. Also, she didn't deserve that Oscar.

Halle Berry is the worst actress to ever win an Oscar. Without her looks, I don't think Halle would of won the Oscar she had won.

How was she not on this list already? I had to include her on this list.

19 Oprah Winfrey Oprah Gail Winfrey is an American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer, and philanthropist.

Have absolutely no idea why she is popular,
Not that bright, no obvious talents, used to shoplift "just because she wanted to", didn't even have the grace to say she was wrong to steal. What a waste of space. Ughh

Played the 'i'm black and abused' card to make millions out of ppls emotions...the real victims of racism and child abuse still not even in the light

You all are SIMPS. Fine, Oprah isn't attractive, can't act, and can't sing. THAT'S RIGHT I SAID IT! So why is she famous? SPEAK ON IT!

She's famous because of Michael Jackson. And she backstabbed him now.

20 50 Cent Curtis James Jackson III, better known by his stage name 50 Cent, is an American rapper, actor, entrepreneur, investor, record, film, and television producer.

Yeah he ain't all that, his rapping ain't that special and only people who know little about rap call him one of the best lyricists. Rap music has just gone down in quality so much starting in the early 2000's that when people hear a half way decent rapper they call him the best. DMX is a more lyrical and better version of 50.

50 cent is worth 10 cents and cmon will smith made me like him in I am ledgend

Go to hell he's underrated

21 George Foreman George Edward Foreman is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1969 to 1977, and from 1987 to 1997. Nicknamed "Big George", he is a two-time world heavyweight champion and an Olympic gold medalist.

One of the most overrated boxers ever. He's regarded as one of the pound-for-pound greats, even though he got consistently embarrassed by smaller opponents. That's not a pound-for-pound great. Jimmy Young wasn't even a great hitter, and he embarrassed Foreman anyway. Foreman is regarded by fans as boxing's hardest puncher, even though Ali, Norton, and Lyle all said that Earnie Shavers hit them the hardest.

22 OJ Simpson Orenthal James Simpson (born July 9, 1947), nicknamed "The Juice", was an American football running back, broadcaster, actor, advertising spokesman, and convicted felon. Once a popular figure with the U.S. public, he is best known for being tried for the murders of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson,... read more

murderer... that's what he's a celebrity for.

past celebrity current double murderer

23 Tyra Banks Tyra Lynne Banks is an American model, television personality, talk show host, producer, author, actress, singer and business woman.

I get that she supposed to be great because there weren't many black models but other than that she seems like an awful person I watched America's top model she's just a my way or no way bullheaded person I remember years ago she came out with the song and once again in that interview she didn't think anybody who helped her she just kept running her mouth about herself and how she feels and why she had to do it put accents over the she in had she is seems like a real bad person yet people love her because she's black and because she's a model and there weren't that many black models at the time she came out so it sucks

How is she behind Bill Cosby? Cosby is the man he is way more talented than this girl and so is cris tucker

I doubt Tyra is truly overrated. She had several projects that failed.

She's beautiful. That's the one great thing she got going for her.

24 2pac Tupac Amaru Shakur, also known as 2Pac, was an American rapper and actor born on June 16, 1971 in East Harlem, New York. Tupac sold over 75 million records worldwide and has been referred to in multiple major publications such as Rolling Stone as one of the greatest music artists of all time. 2Pac was assassinated on September 1996 at the age of 25. ...read more.

He had one classic album, one good album, and 3 weak albums. His diehard fans don't know anything about hip-hop cause rakim and nas are way better. And he had the vocabulary of a 6 year old with down syndrome. The most overrated black celebrity of all time is Tupac Shakur.

Im a fan myself but best rapper of all time? I don't think so. Great rapper with a classic (me against the world)and some okay albums but at the end of the day if he didn't die he would never get Greatest of all time talk.

2pac was a pretty good rapper. He wasnt the greatest or even close to the greatest. I take Kool G Rap, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Nas, Jay-Z, Common, AZ, Scarface and about 30 others before I would get to 2pac.

The epitome of overrated, right here, buddy!

25 Will Smith Willard Carroll "Will" Smith, Jr. (born September 25, 1968) is an American actor, comedian, producer, rapper, and songwriter. He is best known for his acting career overall. He has been in many popular movies, These include, but are not limited to, the Men in Black franchise, The Pursuit of Happyness, and After Earth. He is one of the worst actors in the world and is always a smart ass.

Regardless of the role, he's always the Fresh Prince to me. A clown!

Hhe is so ugly is eyes are retarded too far apart andh is wife is a les. e looks like he has fetal alcohol syndrome
