Most Overrated Rock Bands
The Top Ten
Don't get me wrong, I do like Linkin Park. They're definitely in my top fifteen favorite rock bands. HOWEVER, they are not #1. People keep placing them above the Beatles, Queen, and other bands that honestly deserve a top spot. I wouldn't mind seeing them or their songs in a top ten, or an occasional top 5. But they are currently the #1 rock band on "best rock bands" list, which really isn't true. Not trying to offend any fans, just saying that they are kinda overrated. - isabellapineiro
Generic, awful, idiotic and whiny band. I have no idea what makes them incredibly popular, but my guess is probably because of the insane amount of emos and weeaboos on this planet. Those kinds of people just love eating this kind of music up, along with their pop punk and metalcore obsession as well. Linkin Park mean absolutely nothing to the music industry whatsoever.
Linkin Park is a very good rock band with their own sound, and I like them a lot. However, All the edgy scene kids who claim they were "saved" by them really need to stop elevating them to unrealistic heights.
Honestly, this list just seems to be a place for people to trash talk bands they don't like, and there are a lot of really great bands on here. But I do think that Linkin Park is overrated. So I'm voting for them.
I do find it funny how this list looks almost exactly the same as most of the top ten best rock bands list... - WolfsQuill
They say this band "shaved hair metal" and "they started the alternative revolution" when in reality it really wasn't them.
Nirvana has their place. They were by no means bad. Kurt had a talent for writing lyrics and a voice that inspired a generation. But the fact remains: they were not even the best in their genre. I wouldn't even put them in my top 3. Soundgarden is VASTLY superior in every single category outside of popularity. Chris Cornell compared to Kurt Cobain is like a 5 carat diamond compared to white dog. Much of the same can be said for Pearl Jam... and Alice in Chains. I would even say Stone Temple Pilots is a tier or 2 above Nirvana. I respect them and their body of work, but when every other well known grunge band has better singing, songwriting, musicianship, lyricism, longevity... Overrated. - VisionsOfSight
I kinda have a personal Vendetta against Kurt Cobain as a musician. Did he have the voice of an angel? Absolutely. Were his lyrics amazing. Definitely. But he couldn't play guitar very well, at least live.
Nirvana is basically the most overrated rock band ever! They didn't actually do anything to get this much attention to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Nirvana, I hate the wannabes that wears Nirvana tees or stuff like that 7/24 and when you ask them they can't even name a Nirvana song except Smells Like Teen Spirit - which I think that its an overrating song too- I mean, okay, Nirvana might be good, but please, I'm telling you that wannabe kid, if your saying that Nirvana is the best band ever, you don't have an idea what rock is, and there are even greater grunge bands than them, like Soundgarden. - Psychedelic
Words cannot describe how sick I am of hearing their crappy music being played whenever I turn on the radio. - RiverVibeZ
U2 isn't that bad as most people think. They put passion in their music and they aren't bad live either. I have seen them life and they are good. Also, not all of their songs sound the same and Bono is a good singer. - Userguy44
Whoever put queen on the list is going to suffer an unfortunate accident.
All of u2's song sound the same. Bad. They are all mediocre musicians, who really shouldn't be one of the most popular bands ever.
Listen, not everyone has to like Queen nor they shouldn't them. If they don't like it, it's their problem not yours - Neonco31
I'm not a believer that all famous musicians have to be technically proficient, but these guys have been cutting corners for a while now, and don't seem to have improved that much. It still seems like the Edge uses his vast array of effects pedals to compensate for his lack of guitar skill. Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton always use the same, monotone rhythms to back every single song (does Clayton even use more than one strong on any song? ). As for Bono, he's not nearly as great as his devotees make him out to be. Has no-one noticed how clumsy and off-key he is on 'With Or Without You"? Perfect example of a substandard singer overreaching his grasp.
Coldplay were great to start with and deserved the accolades they got. Then they just produced nothing but filler but were still praised by critics. Hence why they are overrated. It's all sounded the same, very dull for years. The raw emotion has now gone and there songs now sound like there written by someone who's trying to hard. And failing - sextysex
Sadly a once-great band that succumbed to all the need to be mainstream & roll in the dough.
Definitely vote Coldplay. I can think of at least 5 songs they ripped off other artists. I'm sure there are more we don't know about.
I love Coldplay screw this list
Me: *turns on rock station
"CAUSE I'M TNT, I'M DYNAMITE"
Me: groans, turns off the radio, and walks away - RiverVibeZ
I think that what makes their songs so supposedly "stupid" is some of the best stuff about them. They don't put on any airs about sadness or romance. They just write awesome power anthems. May I add that they managed to rise from the ashes after their awesome lead singer, Bon Scott, sadly passed away. Not many bands could do that. Besides, Angus Young is an incredibly skilled guitar player, and his solos make up for the repetitive lyrics. - AngryNerdGirl
AC/DC should be higher. The only "good" thing about them is their guitar play. Their vocalist sucks, their drumming is basic and nothing special, and their bassist is nothing special. Angus Young is great, but that's it.
The reason most of these options are so high up is that this 10 ten list is for rock band's that most people think are actually good. Now, don't get me wrong, AC/DC isn't bad, and I like some of their songs. They're just overhyped in my opinion.
Warning: If you are a hardcore Beatles fan, fanboy or fangirl who easily gets butthurt and cannot handle and respect other people's opinions that differ from your own, then look away now and do not read this rant/opinion.
Okay. Before I start on explaining why I think they are overrated, I am going to give some small amount of credit to them where it is due. In my opinion, I think McCartney is a great bass player who could create very melodic bass lines, some of their songs were okay or even good, they wrote their own material by themselves and they did not use autotune to hide their vocals.
But unfortunately, this is the ultimate reason on why I believe they are overrated. The hype and respect surrounding this band is just way way way too much! There is no need for all this extravagant praise for this band! They were nothing incredibly special, they were just another band that sounded exactly like everything else around their time (The Who, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones ...more
Could their choice of a band name possibly be an homage to Buddy Holly and The Crickets or does it Have to be viewed as "plagiarized" (lol) to fit your opinion of their talent, work, and proper status? - Billyv
The Beatles were NOT a rock band, they Who, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones ere a POP band, nothing like The Who, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones nor any other rock band). I used to be a monster fan of The Beatles and still like their music but their rapid fans are a real turn-off.
To suggest that I would get butthurt (whatever that means) because you disagree with me is not really giving me a lot of credit, but that's okay. Let me explain why the Beatles are not overrated. Number one is their longevity. Paul McCartney can still sell out a stadium at a moment's notice, even fifty plus years after he started. I would be willing to bet that very few, if any, of today's artists are going to be relevant in 2065. Number two is their albums. It doesn't matter the website. If you're talking about the greatest albums of all time, the White Album, Magical Myestery Tour, Abbey Road, Revolver, Rubber Soul, and Seargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band are always in top ten consideration. No other band has six albums that are top ten quality (Pink Floyd might come closest). Number three, their solo careers. McCartney, Lennon, and Harrison had incredible solo careers and even Ringo's solo career could rival the best solo careers of the leaders of most bands. Number four, if ...more
The Beatles composed a few rock songs but the bulk of their songs were pop.
Green Day isn't overrated. Anyone who thinks so just thinks American Idiot is. Listen to Dookie and Insomniac and Nimrod. Great albums.
Seriously, Green Day is not overrated. They've put so much good work together over the years, thinking about society's problems, having ironic and still serious lyrics and let's not forget that American Idiot is a giant rock opera. Green Day's not even my generation or my favorite punk band to be honest, but I totally respect the guys. - YCLP33
I like green day...
Come on, most of these bands get too much hate. They deserve a break from all the haters.
They've had some of the most innovative punk songs ever. They've always had the spirit of pop but the intensity of punk. Definitely not overrated, especially when you consider each and every song from one of their albums is different in their own sense, ESPECIALLY Dookie, Nimrod, Insomniac, and 21st Century Breakdown.
They are not overrated
This list seems to be a joke. I only agree about this band, Leto and his band are really very overrated. I actually don't understand what Guns N' Roses is doing here? They are overrated? Come on, they maybe were the last performers of 70-80's rock, while the grunge and post-grunge were grabbing the world. The same I can say about the lots of bands in this list. It's very strange.
With Shannon Leto being higher up on the greatest rock drummers of all time than, Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy, The Rev, and Danny Carey I knew something was messed up.
I like 30 Seconds to Mars, but Jared Leto just thinks too much of himself honestly. They have some very good songs, but I absolutely agree when you compare them to other great rock bands and standout albums. This Is War tries to be really "epic", and while it does have some awesome tracks, 30 Seconds to Mars is just trying to hard in my opinion. - YCLP33
I like 30 second to mars but they are so overrated
And I don't understand why their fans consider them great band!
They even don't have one decent album!
Linkin Park have hybrid theory, System of down have Toxicity
Nirvana have Nevermind, Green day have American Idiot,
Evanscence have Fallen, My chemical romance have The Black Parade
So what 30 Second to mars have! Simply nothing
Both Dookie and Kerplunk are better than American Idiot. Just saying'. - adfairhurst
Their music is prosaic at best because they devoted all their creativity to their look and/or stage show. even their fanbase associates them most immediately with the makeup and the pyrotechnics. long as they had those bases covered, they could just play the Alphabet song for two hours straight and they'd get away with it.
What's more they'll actually take that as a compliment. (seriously, Gene Simmons would masturbate on stage if he thought he could get an audience for it. )
Kiss is rocks mumble rap. Each song at best sounds like that high school band you said was okay when you were a freshman. Just another band at the right place at the right time, slapped on a bunch of makeup and cheesy promos.
This band has a few great songs but that's it. They became successful because of their band name, their live shows and Gene Simmons' tongue. - IronSabbathPriest
Kiss is a talentless band full of ugly people.
The vocalists of these types of bands sound like they're having constipation lol - Yodledodle
This band has potential, I have heard many of their songs and can't seem to figure out what's not right. The vocals are good, the drums and guitar are even better; Avenged Sevenfold are very talented however it's the choice of songs which are very poor. If someone could actually write songs with proper lyrics and rhythm for a7x then they could possibly one of the best metal bands around. A song style similar to Disturbed or even Bullet For My Valentine could really do them good. For these reasons I think Avenged Sevenfold are good and outstandingly talented although their songs are specifically overrated. - WhenWorldsCollide02
I only voted because I think Avenged Sevenfold deserve to have a crown upon their #1 mark. These guys deserve to be number one, I don't really care what the list is about. Bitches just be jealous. Go whine somewhere else.
They have 2 albums which I would consider amazing, and 1 or 2 which I would consider good, the rest is quite mediocre or bad. That said, I do find them to be fairly talented, even the vocals are quite good from their self title album onwards. - kempokid
This is the most overrated band in the history of rock music. How are they not in the top ten? At least Green Day and Avenged Sevenfold have a good amount of decent songs. LZ's music makes me want to kill somebody. Plant sounds like a toddler, their lyrics are pure idiocy, and Jimmy Page is a crappy guitarist who plagiarizes because he has no creativity. - RiverVibeZ
This is what happens when millennial's have too much time on their hands.
Led Zeppelin is a great band and they do have a unique style to their music, but there are bands that are just as good, if not better. But many people still argue that there's no other band on the planet as great as them.
If you think Jonas Brothers, Nickelback and KISS are more overrated than this band, then you don't know what the term "overrated" means. Those bands aren't half as overrated as this band. In fact, those bands are not overrated at all because they're hated and many people bash them so much.
To me, Led Zeppelin have done a few okay songs but the hype surrounding them even to this day and age is too much and too out of control and that is impressive considering that Led Zeppelin plagiarized half of their work from other blues artists. I'm not saying they're very terrible but "greatest band ever"? Are you kidding me?! That, to me is overexaggerating.
Again, this is just my opinion and I respect your opinion if you disagree otherwise. But DON'T GET ALL BUTTHURT OR ARROGANT OR WHATEVER IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT I'M COMMENTING! And thumb me down all you like but you're not gonna change my opinion on Led Zeppelin!
In the real world, I think they are slightly overrated. On these lists, it's not even close. When I see Richie Sambora in the top ten songwriters and top 50 singers of all time, the answer to the most overrated band is clearly Bon Jovi. Living On a Prayer is a great song, as is Wanted, Dead or Alive. A lot of bands have made two great songs. The rest of their music is either pedestrian or downright bad (Have a Nice Day, It's My Life). It seems a lot of people on these sites are head over heels for Bon Jovi. They're okay, but mainly I just don't feel it, sorry.
The Justin Bieber of rock music. A real band does not make several Adult Contemporary songs. A real band would be like Led Zeppelin or Van Halen (okay with David Lee Roth). This band does not act badass no matter what their fans say, the opposite of rock and roll. Pure cheese
Just appalling soft 1980s drivel. No balls or originality.
Just awful, Springsteen wannabe without the songs or gravitas. They take themselves so seriously, Jon a massive ego with a terrible voice.Torture.
I can't stand Axl's voice. I do love November Rain and Slash has got the guitar chops but my god I can't get passed the vocals and the lyrics in some of their less popular songs. I don't hate the band I just think they're flawed and are overrated. No disrespect to Guns N Roses fans.
Loll, you guys are retarded. Axl may not be admired by most but vocally, he is one of the better singers with a pretty good range. Slash was also a very talented guitarist. This band had a few big hits in the late eighties early nineties but they're Certainly not overrated. Axl had anger issues and was a little arrogant, storms off stage a bunch and sometimes did not show for a performance all together. This does not make them an overrated Act. I realize this is all subject to opinion but I think most people that have basic knowledge and understanding of rock and roll would agree that this band was certainly one of the better 90s progressive rock bands.
Guns N' Roses is a bit overrated. They do have some good hits, but they also have some that aren't that great, yet people say they're the best in the world. They're good, but they're not the best.
Every kid in this generation is led to believe by their piers that Guns 'N' Roses are the greatest band that ever was. And they only know three songs by them.
They were good at first, but after listening to more of their songs, I started to get irritated at the constant and repetitive shouting, the obnoxious instrumentals, and strange lyrics. Maybe I'm too simple minded to understand their music, I don't know, but for now I'm not a fan of this band. - RiverVibeZ
They're good but people just know them because of Chop Suey. Ever heard of Cigaro or P.L.U.C. K?
Overrated? No, they are underrated. - DoroExploro13
Overrated, but they are still great. - Userguy44
I didn't know that Maroon 5 is a rock band.
Their musics are TOO MUCH OVERRATED!
Much of their music post-Songs About Jane are overrated
Are they even a rock band? - Ank
Maroon 5 was good until they sold out. Now their songs are all about Adam Levine swearing and being a jerk. - The01Bro
This band shouldn't be on this list. They deserve to be in the top ten best rock bands ever and they've earned it. The fact that Anthony and Flea are still touring in 2019 is amazing. Flea arguably the greatest bassist of all time in any genre, John Frusciante arguably the greatest since Hendrix, Chad Smith being able to keep up with a duo like flea and frusciante since 1988 is incredible. And their Slane Castle 2003 performance was other worldly. You guys on here who are saying this band is overrated, you don't know how wrong you are. They have so many underrated songs (some to me are better than their popular ones) that you guys don't even know. Wet Sand, She Looks To Me, Desecration Smile, Venice Queen, etc. Just listen to some of their live concerts from 2006 and their Slane Castle performance and you will see why this band kicks ass. - connor2738
John Frusciante is not a great guitarist. The lyrics are all either about California or Heroin. While seemingly original, very monolithic. Couldn't break from their drug habits to solidify a future and only had a few decent songs, which get drug through our ears every day on FM radio as if they are the anthems of our generation or something. 2nd only to Aerosmith for the most overrated band of all time.
I am sick of hearing this band on almost every channel be it a supposed hard rock station or an adult contemporary one they are the most overplayed band of all time.
They shouldn't be on this list. They easily have the most variety out of any band I've ever listened to
Overrated? The only reason people say that is because Dave Grohl was in Nirvanna. In my opinion that is a reason they deserve their fame, it would be extremely hard to rise from the ashes of a really popular band. Dave recorded the first album on his own, he played all the instruments.
I really don't consider Foo Fighters overrated, in fact I prefer them to Nirvana
All songs sound exactly the same and it has just somehow become a mainstream accepted rock band and thereby gotten a lot more cred than deserved. The band is fine but certainly not "worlds best rock band" as commercial people seem to think...
Was forced to see them at last Love Ride their best songs were covers from real bands who wrote good music. Dave Grohl sitting on his throne/motorcycle lamenting about not being able to get out in the wind and ride how pathetic? The insufferable douche bag cusses so much because he can't come up with anything interesting to say so he curses and his moronic fans scream in delight because they heard the "F" word. This just reinforces his need to be a jack ass on stage. I have seen Robert Plant and Pink Floyd so many times and never have they needed to dropping "f" bombs to get their fans into the show
I don't understand how any body likes this band. These guys are horrible
Most people who have an ungodly hate for this band are generally sheep. Nickelback is not amazing, and their sound is generic usually, but kroeger has a weird sounding voice, but he actually has decent singing talent. Listen to godsmack. THAT is the definition of trying too hard to sing grungily. Their old songs were actually pretty good, but as soon as they blew up they just started to copy themselves. How you remind me isn't actually too bad as well
The guitarist is unskilled (actually all the "musicians" are), their discography have songs that are indistinguishable from one another, their lead singer sounds constipated when singing, they are a derivative of Creed which in turn are a derivative of Pearl Jam whilst at the same time sounding like bro-country (shudders), the lead singer looks like a paedophile, they performed so terribly at a concert that people throw rocks at them, people actually petition for them to NOT perform, their songs lack class (e.G. Figured You Out, Something In Your Mouth), they only care about money when it comes to making music (I mean, as the almighty end all of all things), diversifying in music means bringing Flo Rida to guest in one of your songs, the lead singer is a douchebag as a person.
I just can't think of anything of merit about this band. If one is forced to listen to their music on the radio while at work, what will you expect to be the reaction?
They could be good. I actually like the singer's voice, to be honest. The problem is that they're so damn lazy. All the songs they write are extremely simplistic and sound the same. And people still buy their albums...
Paul Rodgers singing Jimi Hendrix songs sounds like a great idea being that Paul is a great bluesy style singer but there is just something about Jimi like Mick that brings out the best in their songs and that would be character in the voice. Some songs need that lesser than greatness to make it a great song and Mick pulls it off. Keith may just be an average guitar player but he is known as the Grand Riffmaster for a reason and everybody knows that Ron Wood is the better player. When a band has been around for 55 years releasing album after album somewhere down the line they are gonna stop creating masterpieces and have less than stellar songs but they have earned their praise and the right to be on top of the mountain with other greats of the rock era. Really the only albums or songs that appear near to the tops of lists are albums from their classic golden years and a good many of those albums have the cream of the rolling stones crop. It isn't like Dirty Work or Voodoo Lounge are ...more - frankmartin
They were a solid rock band but baby-boomers believe them to be almost as groundbreaking and historically important as Elvis. I'm actually a fan of a few of their songs but they made some stinkers too. The fact there is a successful magazine called "The Rolling Stones" is enough proof that this band is way overrated and not only that but able to use their magazine to release top 100 songs of all time that list their own songs way too favorably near the top every time.
The most overrated band ever. There are no questions. Seriously Mick Jagger is a great performer don't get me wrong, but that is the only reason that these guys are considered influential. His voice is nothing special, Keith Richards is a so-so guitarist and Brian Jones there only stand out musician was rejected and killed himself. - Ledjam17
Good writers & good in the studio - seen 'em live and they're brutal - glorified garage band. They're like Dylan - also a great writer - should have had someone else record his tunes. But of course, all music is subjective - one man's garbage is another man's gold.
What in is this bull? THEY'RE NOT EVEN A ROCK BAND IN ANY WAY. This site is full of crap.
They're not overrated, or rock. - ProPanda
This is not a rock band but they are overrated though and they suck - christangrant
They arnt rock music why is this on here - theone90990
Metallica is in no way a "bad" band. But overrated? HELL YES. Maybe one of the most overrated bands in the world. I loved Metallica until I was about 12 years old and started finding better music. I mean jesus christ, their drummer can barely hold the tempo... They are not very good live either. I mean sure, they have some good songs but it gets pretty bland, boring and repetitive quickly. I know they have a lot of diehard fans but I sincerely believe that they deserve to be on this list... and higher up.
All of their music ultimately sounds the same. Same beat, instruments, vocals, bass, guitar solos, and drumming. I used to like them when I first heard them but they play way too much on the radio. I can't really understand how this band got this popular. They came out with a new album but it sounds the same as previous albums.
Metallica is a great band, but most people do act like the god of music plays in this band. They're not the best band in the world. Same style, same time, better musicians: Dream Theater (most underrated metal band) - darksky
I concur. Metallica is great and they've had their moments but the Dream Theater is the real deal if you want same style but more melodic music with awesome musicians. - ProfessorSparks
I never got this band's popularity. I mean they've had a few okay songs but I can never remember more than a few seconds from anything they did. Plus their vocals are always so stale and lifeless. I always get ripped to shreds for saying this, but I honestly like megadeath better.
They're not overrated. A lot of people, like me, think they suck - ChatonNoir
The Scorpions never really acheived superstar staus in the USA and only briefly in the 1980s when they started to shine but faded soon after the arrival of the 1990s. Much like Thin Lizzy and UFO they stars shone much brighter in other parts of the world. They did put out some top notch albums and always had killer songs throughout their career but were they ever really over exposed? Not a band that should be on this list for the very fact that if you asked people who the Scorpions they would be like who? and if they knew the name they probably couldn't name but one or two songs. - frankmartin
I love X-Japan. I don't think they are overrated. The only person that seems to hate X Japan in every single top tens list is this LedZepp81 retard. I mean, most people here don't even know them (except for this stupid douche bag), so how are they overrated? Their music is inspiring and amazing. Just listen to Art of Life (worth 30 minutes of your life). Just so you know, I actually think Led Zeppelin is kinda overrated, and they are higher on the list than X anyways. However, I do think fans exaggerate sometimes, not by thinking X Japan is better than what they really are (even if they're not the greatest band that ever stepped on Earth), but by putting down every single Japanese band that isn't X. I'm a huge J-rock/metal fan and it irks me seeing X fans calling other bands trash because they're not X. X Japan isn't even my FAVORITE band... But definitely great.
I don't even know who they are but they're on like every list in the top 10 so I suspect foul play -_- - FresnoMMA
Then why don't you try listen to their music first? They're amazing - jadesweetbox
From what I can tell people on this site seem to love them. But I can't figure out why there borderline-horrible. I would say them and Avenged Sevenfold are the two most overrated bands.
Nirvana is also very overrated. - Chris-1
These insufferables are so bad that they made Rock look so bad! This is why Nickelback and Linkin Park exist! - LedZepp81
Evanescence is basically just Amy Lee, she was the only member to be on 2 album covers and most people seem to only like Evanescence because of Amy's oh so amazing voice. I've seen so many people talk about how they love because Amy Lees vocals are so beautiful and she saved their life! Sorry but a band is more than just vocals and honestly she's a good singer but not as great as everyone seems to claim. Their lyrics and music is just pretty generic, there are better symphonic rock bands.
If there is something wrong with that band is that Amy Lee is the only member that gets credits. Evanescence is my favorite band, but I think the other members need more credits. - BlueDiamondFromNowhere
So this is apparently the best goth rock band according to the site. I can't decide whether to laugh or cry, that is just disgraceful. Screw this band they aren't goth. They are closer to emo than that. I like DCFnaf and all but he gives to much praise to that stupid Amy Lee. - 445956
Evanescence is the best band ever
Aerosmith doesn't get enough credit. They have many great songs and they are one of the best in the world, yet they don't get as much credit and recognition as other bands such as Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, Queen; etc. They are not overrated, they're underrated. And they rock!
You either love Aerosmith or you can't stand them. I am the latter. The only song worth I like is "Janie's Got a Gun", just because it's different as has a good message. Oh, yea, "Dream On" is trash.
Aerosmith started to become has been around the early 1980s and then revitalized their career. This is a band that just became really over exposed from Mtv and all the videos not that they didn't deserve some recognition after slaving it out in the 1970s. Imagine if Mtv hadn't existed then how many of the big names from the 1980s would not have been as big as they were. You think that Thriller or Never mind or any Mtv darlings would have achieved as much success? Aerosmith had quality music and rode the video train and you can't fault them for that. But you have look past just the pop tunes and dig deep into the albums and you will find some real treasures. - frankmartin
Never liked them. - ChatonNoir
Metal posers - XxembermasterxX
You need to go to a mental hospital if you think One Direction are a rock band.
If Harry Styles was in White Eskimo = Rock
If Louis Tomlinson was in The Rogue = Rock
But not One Direction.
It was just a group of 16-17 year olds who wanted to get on The X Factor.
Bands like this deserve to be on this list. Not bands like Blink 182, A7X, Slipknot, LP, Metallica, Foo Fighters, Green Day, System of a Down or Nirvana. They are proper bands that make proper music - Danielsun182
But this is a list of overrated, not bad bands. Besides, this list is about rock bands. - Alkadikce
Really, this low? Number 43!?! Ok, It is FINE if you like this, but saying it is better than Owl City? The Beatles? CRUSH 40, aka, the team who does all of Sonic's vocal songs? No. That may be your opinion, but that opinion is SHUNNED from where I come from, and so must this band be!
A bunch of teenage boys trying to play some music! Seriously I don't understand why some people (especially teenage girls) go gaga over them. If you think One Direction is a good band, my advice to you:Please start listening to some music preferrably Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Metallica or heck if you don't like rock some decent artists like Eminem.
Overrated? You may not like it but they finally get the respect they deserve. And whereas some later songs may be considered overrated by picky fans, most people will not be familiar with their earlier even more brilliant tracks. A powerful rock trio with interesting and versatile writing, guitar and bass lines and effects, great vocals and not to forget some of the best live performances you will ever experience. Love it or hate it, but Muse is not overrated. Even if they sometimes make it to the charts.
Tasteless music. Tasteless band. Which blended therefore a lot of styles trying to sound originally. But Matt Bellamy did not manage to make any good songs (except Knights of Cydonia which sounds questionably same to Cecilia Ann by Pixies). So, what I wanted to say. People that like mediocre rock music will find it nice. I can not give this band more than 7 out of 10.
Don't know why muse are on this list, they are a great, talented band
It may not be overrated, but their fandom is certainly one of the most annoying fandoms out there.
This is one of the only bands that belong on this list. Whoever voted for Metallica, Linkin Park, Nirvana, Queen, Guns N' Roses, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, AC/DC, Aerosmith, and many others, to be on this list can go jump in the fire, hit the floor, and ascend the Stairway to Heaven.
No, this band absolutely does not belong on this list. And it's not because they're good, they're complete crap, and that's why they shouldn't be on here. This list is of overrated bands, not bad ones, people really need to learn to distinguish between bad and overrated, because they have nothing to do with each other. The Jonas Brothers aren't overrated because nobody likes the Jonas Brothers, they have ten times as many haters as they do fans, almost to the point where it would be more reasonable to argue that they're underrated rather than overrated.
So no, the Jonas Brothers are garbage, but they're in no way overrated.
How is Linkin Park and A7X ahead of this? I love Linkin Park and A7X, this list was obviously made by a 10 year old girl who can't begin to understand true talent. - thatonemeatlfan667
Nirvana? Metallica? Led Zeppelin? Linkin Park? The rest... I agree with the jonas brothers but not the others! Seriously!
Their debut album is the GENESIS of all metal. Legendary bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and 'tallica all owe everything to these guys and Deep Purple. Considering they created a whole genre of music and other bands that always strike top 10 on every list (Sabbath isn't one of them) didn't, it's safe to say that they're UNDERRATED if anything.
They are called the founders of metal when they only made Doom Metal - christangrant
Good band, but they didn't create metal like everyone says they did.
HAHA. Putting Sabbath on this list is a joke. They deserve all the credit and more.
Seriously? I think they are very underrated. The way that they are able to change to another completely different genre and master it is really indicative of the genius of Thom Yorke. Take for example, The Bends and Kid A. If you took someone who didn't know who Radiohead was, they would be shocked to know that those albums were done by the same band.
They're not perfect obviously, but they're easily one of the best bands of all time. Radiohead is UNDERRATED.
I don't understand why people love this band. This music brings only sorrow and desolation. Furthermore, it's not so good in lyrics and instruments.
This band is nothing but boring - Sabbath
This is just false direction with plastic guitars. - malamJONES
Not a rock band but yes they are overrated - christangrant
Sellouts. 1000% sellouts.
Get this cringe blob in the top 10. Emos are the most idiotic people on this planet and will hype up every nu-metal, metalcore, pop punk and emo band in existence.
There is one girl in the band, and sadly, you can't tell which one it is.
Note to fans: stop forming your music tastes based on what Hot Topic advertises.
How is this so low on the list?! They're so overrated and the fans are annoying. They compare every single rock band to these... Idiots!
Slayer isn't overrated - christangrant
Slayer under Queen and Linkin Park? Come on guys, GET REAL.
They might be a little ovverated - imabigpotato
Cob should at least top 10
Underrated. - Disturbedpotato
No one even talks about Chicago anymore and they albums really don't show up on all time best lists so how is it that they are on the overrated list? I saw them this past summer and they put on a 2 1/2 show and it was great. So Chicago is really two phases...one from the beginning when they were more of a jazz horn fusion rock band and phase two was after Terry Kath when it was all 80s pop and ballads. Almost like two different incarnations but both highly successful. I happen to like both phases. They stopped making albums some years ago so it isn't like market is flooded with their albums. - frankmartin
Absolutely worthless, generic, unoriginal band that has never done anything we haven't heard before done better by other bands. Their popularity really baffles me.
These guys suck, I don't know why so many people like them...
What's overrated generally is a when a band is know for having one really hugely successful album out of nowhere and then a series of lesser successful releases. Not the case with Def Leppard. They started the string with a an ACDC like attitude and grittiness and then on their third release hit the big time with Pyromania but this wasn't a fluke because they hit it even bigger with Hysteria. They continued the success on the next album and then toned it down till around 1999 with the release of Euphoria a back to basics mix of Hysteria and Pyromania but with out all the shine and gloss. Their subsequent albums haven't sold nearly as well but are really cool records. Hysteria was that huge record that got everybody talking and it overshadows all their other achievements. - frankmartin
Might be overrated, but hell I still find myself singing along in the car when one of their many hits come on the radio
YES this band is so overrated plus they also ruined Highway to Hell so they deserve the hate they get - christangrant
Marilyn Manson is not overrated - Disturbedpotato
If "hardcore" wannabes have a god, that must be Marilyn Manson.
Take it Easy, Desperado, Tequila Sunrise, I Can't Tell You Why, Love Will Keep Us Alive, Life in the Fast Lane, New Kid in Town, The Last Resort, Already Gone, One of These Nights, Lyin'.Eyes, Take it to the Limit, Heartache Tonight, The Long Run, Sad Cafe, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Witchy Woman, How Long, Get Over It, Learn to Be Still Best of My Love, Seven Bridges Road, Outlaw Man...
VERY underrated! If you voted for the eagles, name a song besides Hotel California
Quoth the Dude, "I hate the f@&$ing Eagles, man."
Are you kidding me?
Without Jimi Hendrix, rock music would be like 50 years behind!
Hendrix isn't so highly regarded for nothing!
What are you guys talking about! If anything, this band is under rated.
Never got the hype for this band. The same 3 chord pattern pop-punk that we've heard a thousand times over. Lost in Stereo, personally is the only song that kinda sticks out from the rest. But yeah, repetitive, necessarily bad but stuff we've heard a lot better before. - Sosbrad
Way underrated. My favorite group of all time. However, best album does not have Vince Neil as vocalist, that album being Motley Crue (1994).
Considering Motley's heyday was short lived you can hardly call them overrated. Most of the pop metal bands of the 1980s were short lived. They had their success and that was it. It isn't like people are still talking about them all the time like The Beatles or Pink Floyd or Nirvana. - frankmartin
They aren't overrated - christangrant
I wouldn't call them overrated, but I wouldn't call them underrated at the same time. - XxembermasterxX
If you look into their more obscure albums, especially the ones with Syd Barrett, then you'd change your mind about them being overrated. The music they made during those early years were way ahead of their time, and criminally under looked.
Pink Floyd are NOT underrated. Unfortunately, a good portion of their music is. Albums like The Final Cut, The Division Bell, Obscured by Clouds are traditionally overlooked by fans.
Guys, their stuff from the 70's is great, but their work from the 60's was great too. Give it a listen, you might change your mind before you say Pink Floyd is overrated.
That comment makes no sense. Yeah Megadeth aren't Black Sabbath. So what? They're a completely different style of metal, and regardless, Megadeth are regarded as one of the all time greats of metal for a reason - they are.
People need to stop worshiping this band. They are no black sabbath
They are only overrated because of their fanbase - christangrant
