Top 10 Most Talented BandsMarcopwnzatdrums I don't wanna know who the best sounding band is, but the most talented band!!! Is it Rush, Yes, Avenged Sevenfold, Tool?
The Top Ten
Rush is the ultimate power trio. There is no band that deserves to be on this list more than Rush. Rush has made music for 46 years since they got together in 1968 and 40 years since their first album in 1974. Rush has some of the most complex albums and songs ever made. They have made over 20 albums! Unlike other bands they continue to make crazy stuff! Geddy Lee is the best bassist of all time. No one even comes close to Neil. I think you could make a case that Alex Lifeson also belongs in a list among the best guitarists of all time. Rush, Fly By Night, Caress of Steel, 2112, A Farewell to the Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent waves, Moving Pictures, Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire, Presto, Roll the Bones, Counterparts, Test for Echo, Vapor Trails, Feedback, Snakes and Arrows, Clockwork Angels and more is coming! It is insane what these guys managed to do. They crossed so many different genres. First they originated from a Blues Rock/Heavy Metal background ...more
When you really look who the best bands were they are definitely up there. Rush is probably the most complex band out there and they are still playing and they are going to keep playing unlike a lot of the other bands on this list even those who generally do not like rush like one or two songs. All their albums I love and one thing that I can't understand is why people down caress of steal so much. If you really listen to it you will grow to love it. The necromancer is a great sequel to by-tor and the snow dog and it also contains rush's most experimental piece in their history Didacts and narpets (which is on the fountain of lamneth). Plus as we see many bands these days seem so scared to add experimentation in what they make in the way rush always has from day one and will. Alex Lifeson is a truly underrated guitarist. He has always been known to play to the songs strength instead of showing off his own talents too much and it still sounds great. Critics are always looking for ...more
In 2012 I saw RUSH twice. I've seen them twice before that and I am going to see them in july 26 2013. It is an absolute no brainer that they are the most talented band ever hands down. Before RUSH my favorite bands were zepp, the who, cream, aerosmith, acdc, Guns N' Roses, soundgarden, u2, metallica and many many others like the cars, heart, iron maiden, black sabbath, ozzy, judas priest, van halen, pink floyd. I learned to play a lot of zepp on my les paul. Love so much music with deep passion for all different sounds and styles. I say no thank you to beatles and stones, just doesn't sound good to me, never did like them from day one with no other input from any persons, just the sound of their music was annoying to me for some reason. RUSH! Oh my god... I have been going out of my mind with how simply amazing they are in every aspect there is in being the best. RUSH is the best band of all time with great distance between them and second place who ever that might be, and don"t ...more
Rush is something beyond human capabilityV 72 Comments
Most talented, creative, musically gifted band of all time.
Jimmy Page: best guitarist of all time. his riffs are heavenly
Robert Plant: one of the greatest voices in music history. passion, power, feeling, grit
John Paul Jones: brings a mature and powerful undertone with his bass few others can match
John Bonham: needs no explanation. god of the drums, no one comes close
There are many good bands in this list (I like Metallica, Rush, RHCP, Queen, Soundgarden... ), but I think Led Zeppelin deserves to be first in this list, because that's the truth: the music tallent of the four members of this epic band is worldwide recognised.
Avenged Sevenfold above the greatest band of all time?! This blasphemy is deeply troubling. I can understand RUSH being ahead (because they're another one of my favorites), but A7x? Just pitiful.
Very few bands carry a reputation of having all of their members being nearly equally talented and some of the best musicians in their respective categories in all of rock. In my opinion, in terms of musicianship, these are the bands that have the best all-around talent:
1) Led Zeppelin
3) The Who
4) Black Sabbath
5) Iron Maiden (Number of the Beast lineup, though it's far from their best album.)
6) Megadeth (always had great musicians but most notably the Friedman and Menza lineup)
8) Ozzy Osbourne (First two albums lineup with Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley, and Lee Kerslake)
9) Pink Floyd (Waters, Gilmour, Mason, and Wright)
10) Van Halen (Roth era)
Dream Theater loses out to Coldplay? I am literally sickened and enraged at the today's ability (or lack there of) to find musical talent. If you break down Dream Theaters music and see the skill involved I'm not even sure Rush could hold number one. Lee's Bass and synth switching may give rush an upper hand, but Dream theater is one of if not THE most skilled band ever.
A world record holding drummer in Mike Mangini and a prodigy in Jordan Rudess - you can argue that these two are the best in the world at what they do. Most bands would kill to have the best in the world as one of their band members. Petrucci is right up there too. You could make a case that Dream Theater was the best band years ago. Now that they have acquired Mangini and Rudess, this is the most talented group of rock musicians ever assembled.
Most talented band in existence. Rush comes in close second actually. Every band member is individually in the rock and roll hall of fame. John petruci is the fastest most technical, skill guitar player alive. Mike portnoy and mike mangini are the two best percussionists to ever live, bot have been or are currently in the band.
Dream theater is more skilled than Rush, but Rush was very influential and dream theater wouldn’t be as good without them.V 48 Comments
Pink Floyd is a band that demonstrates a lot of qualities that are desirable in a band such as talented members, great composition skills, great lyrics, and evolution over time. They demonstrate revolutionary music that followed a unique form, drawing from previous musical geniuses in rock, jazz, blues, and even classical music through their pioneering of progressive rock. Their albums have a central theme reflecting important matters of life with haunting and philosophical lyrics. All in all, I believe these are reasons that contribute to why pink Floyd is such a great band aside from the musical skill the members showed.
It is true that Pink Floyd contain highly skilled players. However, it is more important to recognize the powerful sound they create for a band of their size. There is something about this band that gives them a sound like no other. Fifty years from now people will continue to be blown away by the rich melodies of Pink Floyd's great albums. In other words, there skill is not completely measured in their technical abilities, but instead by the footprint of their overall sound. which is unique and original to this day.
Pink Floyd & The Beatles are the topmost bands of all time. Anyone who understands innovative and artistic music, will surely vote them to the top. It is really annoying that they are not at the top.
Everything is good. Sure, I agree that Rush is #1, but I have always preferred Pink Floyd over it. David Gilmour’s vocals and guitar weeping, Roger Waters’ lyrical content, creativity, songwriting, and bass, Bick Mason’s drums, and Richard Wright’s keyboard playing, all woven into one fantastic resumeé!V 13 Comments
Incredible music for several decades. Amazing range from opera to heavy metal, to ragtime, to... you name it. Their albums (especially the first 6) have such a variety of different & amazing music, it blows the mind. A great song is like a piece of art - it can be enjoyed over and over again. Brian May is one of the best guitarists of all time, Freddie was great, and the band together created some really amazing music. Probably the best group ever.
If you haven't listened to their first 6 albums throughout, then you probably don't know any better. With the exception of Rush, I doubt very seriously that any other group could even come close to playing Queen's early stuff. Add a vocalist like Freddie and lyrics that are incredible, and Queen has no equal.
With Brian May's exquisite guitar riffs matching Freddie's unparalleled vocals, Queen is definitely the most talented band ever to walk the face of the earth. Their music pleases everyone with a wide range of different genres.
Two word, bohemian rhapsodyV 14 Comments
If you've seen the Who live, then you understand that they are the most talented band of all time. It's one thing to listen, but to watch is a completely different experience. John Entwistle and Keith Moon are probably the best bassist and drummer ever, Pete Townshend is one of the best songwriters ever who deserves more credit for his fantastic guitar playing. Also, Roger Daltrey is the opposite of a weak link. He is one of the greatest rock singers of all time who's stutter on My Generation and his famous scream in Won't Get Fooled Again leaves people speechless. I think the Who should be at the top of this list.
John Entwistle is a pioneer on bass. Keith Moon is the single most influential drummer ever, inspiring other greats such as John Bonham and Neil Peart. Pete Townshend wasn't a shredder, he was an artist on par with the greatest of all classic rock. Roger Daltrey stacked up pretty evenly with most vocalists and is Robert Plant Sr. The Who's ability to blend conflicting amounts of talent and personalities is what put them over the top, being able to work together in a setting that would cause most musicians of their caliber to fail.
Having seen this band and the five others above it on this list live, there is absolutely no comparison. The sound The Who made live was truly unbelievable, it's too bad their recordings sounded so different. Entwistle was the most technically proficient bass player to ever live, far exceeding John Myung and Geddy Lee who are in bands ranked above The Who (on a side note Hadrien Feraud is the best living bass player atm). Keith Moon may not have been the best drummer in the world, but his style was incredibly unique and influential. Daltry's voice really worked well during live performances, and Townsend held his own. I will admit that without Entwistle I would not put them number one, but that guy was so damn talented he truly slingshotted them ahead of the rest. When a band is objectively the best live band ever, it stands to reason that that is a good metric for deducing that they are in fact the most talented band ever.
Let's face John Entwistle and Keith Moon were probably the single greatest Bassist and Drummer ever. And Pete Townshend was both a great guitarist and one of the greatest songwriters of all time. It says a lot about how great the rest of the band are that Roger Daltrey (one of the greatest frontmen of all time) is the weak link. Also virtually invented the Rock Opera and created the two greatest examples of that genre.V 7 Comments
I have been getting into a lot of TOOL lately, and oh my gosh these guys need to be higher than number 7! I mean not many bands can base the rhythm and lyrics pattern off of a mathematical sequence (the Fibonacci Sequence), and make it work! Heck they didn't just make Laterulas's rhythm work, they made one of the greatest written songs ever written! Yeah you could complain that, "they're too weird," "Their songs are too long," or, "I don't like rock." The thing is though, it takes talent and intellect to come up with the thing they come up with. Justin Chancellor is one heck of a bassist. He has some of the most complex and amazing baselines, period. Not only are they complex in the fact that yo needed to have a really good at playing bass, but the unique and difficult time signatures are what makes his bass lines. Adam Jones's guitar riffs can range from powerful, soothing, hypnotic, chaotic, confusing, and everything in between. Maynard James Keenan not only has a unique and ...more
I'm not just saying Tool is the best kuz thyre my favourite band, but they all are really amazing!
Justin Chancellor can play the bass like a maniac, and his bass lines are unmatchable, unlike anyone elses!
Danny Carey is a beast when it comes to playing the drums, he is the best no contest
Adam Jones' guitar playing is what gives the songs that feeling hat just gets down into you, like all true music should do... and then theres Maynard James Keenan, man he is an incredible singer who provides Tool with the most amazing, inspiring, deep lyrics I have ever heard... Tool is and always will be my favourite band ever! - Okami
Tool has to be way higher than this. Their lyrics are like no other band ever Lateralus completely connects to the Fibonacci Sequence and many other songs are not similar to any other songs you have heard. Danny Carey is just god when it comes to the Drums, he is just incredible. Adam Jones' guitar is so powerful when he plays it you can feel the music moving through you. Chancellor can play the base so well they're hard to match him! Keenan can sing so well and every time he sings you can feel the power of his voice. He's even wrestled a guy on the ground and he is still able to sing! Their time signatures are incredible and so weird. Try to play Rosetta Stoned on drums, the song is so long and its just not simple to play at all. Tool is unmatchable.
There is something very odd about tool songs
they are long mostly around 8 minutes but it doesn't feel 8 minutes
I don't lose my sense of time whenever I listen to tool
I am so sorry, but this list is horrible. Many of you know Toto by songs like Africa, Rosanna which are their pop songs. But believe me Toto are much more than this, Toto are world class musicians, they could easily outplay Rush, Dream Theater or any other band. They have played almost all genres that there is on the world because they are all session musicians. Jeff Porcaro (RIP) was a legendary drummer and still is the best ever. Nobody comes close to him. Steve Lukather is just amazing guitarist and virtuoso. Let's not forget to mention amazing David Paich who co-wrote many Boz Scaggs and even Steely Dan songs and of course Porcaro brothers. Overall Toto members wrote or co-wrote most 80s and 90s hits. They can play anything you give em, pop, rock, soul, R&B, Fusion... Anything. You guys should really listen to them and also Lukather's solo stuff. Talent overload!
Seriously, just take a look at each of the musicians in Toto. They've all been requested and used many other artists. Yes, dream theater is the most technically proficient group I've ever heard. But that's what they are-technically perfect. Toto moves your soul. Dream theater doesn't touch your soul. I am in no way knocking how incredible they are. Anyone could even argue that this is apples and oranges. The kind of band dream theater is is unique. To Dos uniqueness lies in their ability to be cohesive, so phone, and be in perfect harmony with their singing as well as her plane. Yes, Toto has to be number one.
The members of Toto have influenced music more than those of any other band! This list is about TALENT right? I'd like to see all the bands on this list dissected and have respective instruments go up against one another. Jeff Porcaro, Steve Lukather, David Paich, and Mike Porcaro would rape most of the musicians on this list. #42? -_- gimme a break
They're very underrated - Userguy44V 16 Comments
Incredible band. The talent put forth to create songs like Under the Bridge and Snow (Hey Oh) is incredible. The guitar from John Frusciante is incredible, Anthony Kiedis's voice is great, the drums from Chad Smith keep the timing perfect, and Flea's bass is truly amazing. Great band.
It is not that I believe that they should be in the top ten, I feel that they should be on the top of this list. This is a talent list, and if you actually listened and compared them to the rest of these artist (who are all good) you would hear their undeniably superior talent.
With the lineup of John Frusciante, Flea, Chad Smith, and Anthony Kiedis, it is hard to imagine a band with more energy, style, and raw talent as the Chili Peppers. Just listen to their album Blood Sugar Sex Magik and you'll know what I'm talking about.
Flea seems to be spiritually connected to his instrument, unbelievable talent.
John Frusciante was as well, he has been the creative power of the band for many years. Still, Josh Klinghoffer is one hell of a guitarist. Comparisons can hardly be made between those two, I love them both.
Chad Smith is the best live drummer I have ever seen, and I saw a lot. As a member of the band said: Flea led the jam sessions before Chad became a part of it.
Anthony Kiedis is not the best live singer, everybody knows that. But nobody really cares, he has a unique voice that is worth hearing any wrong note. Additionally, he writes beautiful lyrics and has a feeling for the best possible vocal melodies
Really? Mr. Big before Metallica?... Maybe if we are talking about the chocolate bar - it's delicious!
The Beatles laid the foundation for what would be modern music. In addition to that the quality of their music was superb. The songwriting partnership of John Lennon and Paul McCartney was undoubtedly one of the greatest partnerships of all time. Four extremely talented people brought together to create a beautiful band. They brought out the best in each other, with John Lennon tackling more controversial matters and Paul McCartney generally sticking within the realm of light hearted pop music. Thus, they would compete with each other and attempt the other's retrospective "realm" of songwriting. Do not forget George Harrison for a second, on the other hand. His song "Something" was said by John Lennon to be the best on the album "Abbey Road" which is commonly thought to be one of the greatest albums of all time. Even Ringo Starr, who was generally believed to be the least talented of the three provided a solid tempo through innovative drum lines. There are spectacular bands out there, ...more
I'm laughing that the Beatles are even on this list
Very influential and great songwriters, but not known for technical talent.
Number 1 by a country mile!V 7 Comments
Metallica is a band that is consistently changing for themselves, it's refreshing to hear a ballad thrown in on an otherwise heavy album. Their phenomenal success over the years and loyal fans is one of the reasons they're a brilliant band. Not to mention, the band members are wonderfully real people.
Look, when I chose Metallica as my favourite band, it was for a reason, they're very talented. Please, before saying that Lars (my favourite drummer behind John Bonham) is overrated, please, listen to the early albums. Besides, Metallica had the best bassist ever, Cliff Burton. - Nintendonix
Extremely precise, complicated music with a dark energy
Lars Ulrich - Bean_Destroyer12V 6 Comments
Steely Dan needs to be much further up on this list. The talent between Donald Fagen and Walter Becker is unparalleled by any other duo, along with all of the talented musicians that came and went such as Michael MacDonald, Bernard Purdie, and many others. They are one of a kind
I have found only one band that makes music that can still sound so fresh and new even after decades. It's Steely Dan.
By fat the best ever trained musicians. The others are way behind these guys
As far as most skilled at their instruments, the top 10 should be all metal bands. now if you include how good a bands songs were which is obviously what were doing here then its not, because metal is underground. Iron maiden is my favorite band and I love all metal except screamo, but like honestly the only reason why this top 10 isn't filled with metal bands is because metal is an underground genre of music
A7x more talented than Iron Maiden?
Don't make me laugh please..
STEVE HARRIS HAS A LOT OF IMAGINATION FOR COMPOSING IRON MAIDEN SONGS, WHO'S MAKE ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED BAND.
They have to be higher on the list when you think of overall talent. Dickensons's vocals, Harris's skill with the bass, come on.V 7 Comments
Belongs in the top 10. Still together today and touring after 50 years! They were the inspiration for many heavy metal bands. Classically trained John Lord and genius guitar player Ritchie Blackmore are joined by the powerful voice of Ian Gillan (also sang the part of Jesus in the original album Jesus Christ Superstar) to make up the Mark II lineup of this very talented band.
Only one band on this list could do a 20-40 minute improvisation piece every night on tour., enough said!
Much better live band than any of their contemporaries - HumzahJ
WHAT! Deep Purple deserves Top Five! We see The Beatles, Pink Floyd and A7X ahead of the most talented hard rock group ever. Stupid fanboys.V 1 Comment
Assuming "talented" means "technically adept", Yes has had the most "talent" come and go throughout their ranks over a number of years... Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Jon Anderson, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman, Patrick Moraz, Alan White, even Trevor Horn (in his own way). All of 'em monster players and songwriters.
All you have to do is listen to Sound Chaser or Close to the Edge...
Listen to Roundabout, Close to the edge and starship trooper! Rush and Yes are the most talented bands of all time
Those who play music understand how difficult and technically advanced most of Yes' music really is. There's no bank requiring more musical talent and ability than Yes.V 9 Comments
Joe Walsh's technical and soulful riffs tease out the silence as much as the notes. Definitely up there.
Eagles deserve to be way higher on this list but I was just here to say to the guy before me that its not Jeff Frey, its Glenn Frey
Every member can sing great, play several instruments, write songs. They are extremely talented musicians.
I find it hard to believe many bands could have more talent than these guys...if you count all the solo success by the individual members they should be top 3 minimum.V 1 Comment
Is Skynyrd even on the list has anyone heard the solo in free bird or the bass line in simple man Seriously? I will say that derek trucks is a great guitar player and the diserve to be right up on the list with the legends.
No one changed the course of music more than the brothers - Led Zepplin number 2? Decent cover band who had to be sued by artists just to have their names credited on the albums
Hey dipshits, the greatest guitarist of all time died before his band even hit mainstream. The only reason the Allman Brothers are not number one on ever list everywhere is people are stupid and don't recognize genius. In two hundred years history will remember the Allman Brothers and little else. 14 my ass. Seriously, get your heads checked.
Everyone just calls A7X an overrated hard rock band who don't have much depth. But I guarantee that if you listen to any song on their album City of Evil, you will hear all the characteristics of music that define prog, and how they make their prog sound so seamless. You will hear the guitar tracks overloaded with crazy riffs, different riffs/ solos playing on multiple tracks throughout the song along with the Neil Peart- style drumming of The Rev. I mean The Rev will use every imaginable inch of the drumset, and I wouldn't be surprised if he went beyond that, to make the intense drum sound he does. And the lyrics are always hidden messages, complex stories to push across simple morals, and more. I mean, The Rev really was like a modern Neil Peart in every way. So please have a listen of City of Evil before you write this band off as untalented. - Songsta41
I personally actually do agree with the power trio RUSH being at top.
I only vote A7x because they are still highly underrated, and Shadow's voice is actually the greatest in my opinion. They're songwriting is inarguably of high standard and of deep thought, MOST of the time. Despite Rush and Dream Theater still doing their stuff, this band has done much more for music in general than any other band in this millenium.
Avenged Sevenfold has it all. They have a great vocalist with Matt Shadows incredible voice and not just 1 but 2 great guitarists. Zacky and Synyster both do a great job on their instruments. I'm actually surprised to see them in the top ten above a lot of other super talented bands. But on the other hand, A7X can compare well to these other bands in talent.
So far away is so goodV 14 Comments
Very underrated band. Amazing drummer too!
What a joke! They deserve so much better than 20
Drummer and bass player shred. Dave's a tool.
Ok top 5 drummer, top violinist, trumpeteer, saxophonist, and a very very very talented guitarist/singer. I'm sorry but I would like to see any band jam like they doV 2 Comments
I hear you, brave young Jables, you're hungry for the rock. But to learn the ancient methods, secret doors you must unlock. Escape your fathers clutches and this opressive neighbourhood. On a journey you must go the land of Hollywood. In the city of fallen angels where the ocean meets the sand, you will form a strong alliance and the worlds most awesome band. To find your fame and fortune through the valley you must walk. You will face your inner demons. Now go, my son, and ROCK!
Dio is just awesome they had an incredble vocalist guitarist bassits drummers and best off all vocalist
Mark is one of the best guitarist to breathe air.
From musicianship, song writing and stage show, one of the best bands in the Rock Hall. Better than the Doors, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles Blonde(not that does bands aren't great, but Journey was better)
Steve Perry vocals,Steve Smith drums,Neil Schon guitar,Jonathon Cain keyboards...enough said..needs to be top 10
Seeing zac brown in person is life changing. Every single person in their band is as good as it gets at their instrument. And they all sing and harmonize perfectly. Zac brown band is the most talented band in the world. Hands down
Okay so I get that Opeth doesn’t use a style that everybody likes, but they deserve to be much higher on this list. From incredible lyric meanings to powerful deliverance of those lyrics, accompanied by some awesome riffs and harmony, Opeth does it all.
King Crimson are undoubtedly the the most skillful band to have ever existed.
Robert Fripp is one of the best guitarists in the world and very underrated, and has created some of the most influential music. Fripp has also carefully selected the bands line-up over the years, and have had numerous players, starting with their current line-up (their 8th incarnation of the band, with Fripp being the only permanent member) includes Jakko jakszyk (incredibly skilled guitarist and vocals), Mel collins, and undeniably fantastic woodwind musician, tony levin, bassist and one of the best chapman stick players in the world (seriously! Look him up! Incredible! ) and best of all the drummers, there are three of em, all of which are unbelievable and the best drummers that are currently touring and performing, Gavin harrison is one of said drummers (he is also drummer in porcupine tree) is the most notable of all of them being able to do the most incredible drum solos.
Previous line-ups ...more
If more people knew about king crimson, they would certainly be on the top! It is a band that has had 20 phenomenal musicians pass through it's ranks over the years, but too few people can appreciate them!
Robert Fripp has the same musical approach of Miles : he introduces incredible musicians in Crimson and, then push them beyond what they already know : " because is there that Real Art and Music come out " (Miles)
Basicly any progressive rock band should be on this listV 5 Comments
Man in the Box, Rooster, Would, No Excuses, etc... enough said. Best songs and one of the best bands of all time! May possibly have been slightly overshadowed by some of the more mainstream hits and bands of the 90's but many will agree that Alice in Chains was unique and something everybody can relate to in their music. They will live on forever...
Roxanne is stuck in my head and they're currently at #29 on the list so sure, why not.
would have said mastodon but judas priest sounds better
AC/DC was not very musically talented no clue why they are on the list
AC/DC may sound simple, but their hard-rock tone poems are genius and their music is timeless.
Catchy tunes, terrific gutair playing!
One of the most creative bands of the early 90s (apart from possibly tool)
Victor Wooten? Jeff Coffin? They are like pizza and everyone else is green beans
Not many people can play complex riffs and different time signatures while belting out some of the highest notes in rock singing like chris cornell!
One of most talented rock bands. Chris Cornell's vocals! Kim Thayil's rifts, the hypnotic beat of Matt's drumming. Need I say more?
Les Claypool I would say is tied for the greatest bassist of all time with Geddy Lee. But I think Larry LaLonde and Tim Alexander are very underrated because the live in Claypool's shadow. LaLonde actually is a pretty sick, fast guitarist and for Tim Alexander... Listen to Frizzle Fry. Primus should definitely be higher on the list.
AMAZING instrumentals, doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard before. Of course Les Claypools singing isn't exactly what I'd call good, but it fits their sound nicely. Really great drumming, amazing bass playing, and incredibly under appreciated guitar work.
Talented, original, true musician's band.
Why isn’t Primus higher in this list? - FLIPMODEV 6 Comments
In my opinion, they are the only other power trio that can even be mentioned alongside Rush when we are looking at the raw talent that each individual member generates. While they're legacy wasn't nearly as long, Keith Emerson is daft on keys, Carl Palmer is a one hell of a drummer, and Greg Lake's voice is phenomenal. Add in that Lake was also the bassist, guitarist, lyricist, and producer (produced their first 5 albums) and continue to be impressed. They're sound is incomparable and their style is unmatched by others. They truly were (one of) the best.
In my humble opinion, they are the most talented band of all time. Hands down. They are a rock band built from pure music genius and their album "Pictures at an exhibition" remains the only classical album (I know right?! A rock band! ) to reach the Top 10 charts in the US and the UK. Keith Emerson is the best keyboard/piano/synth player I have ever heard, and the classical pieces he composes (that's right, like with an orchestra) are absolutely beautiful. I love this band.
ELP was the best technical rock band ever in my opinion. They were collectively the best technically on their musical instruments. Was there ever a rock drummer better than Carl Palmer?
Do your research, if we are looking at just plain raw talent ELP has everyone beat. Before Jimi Hendrix Died, he wanted to jam with ELP. Jimi Hendrix!, Also Keith Emerson is known for knowing the moog synthesizer better than moog himself, you look at there songs like tank and toccata, maybe not that pop oriented, but pop rarely has talent.
All members of Van Halen are very talented. Eddie is considered to be the greatest and most influential guitar player since Hendrix. David Lee Roth is one of the best frontmen in rock. Alex is an excellent drummer. You can't get more talented than the mighty =/-/=
This band is amazing, don't forget Michael Anthony the best back up vocalist of all time.. deserves top 5.. and eddies the best bands down
All I have to say is Erruption, and hot for teacher
Even though I'm completely fine with rush at the top :)
Van halen needs to be at least in the top ten with Eddie, Alex and Dave
They are better than most of the bands on this list (besides rush)
Myles Kennedy has a brilliant voice, and is an extremely proficient guitarist too. When coupled with Mark Tremonti's guitar, the band uses riffs that I imagine could only be played by the more technical thrash metal groups. Incorporating heavy riffs and drums into rock music is a brilliant idea, and requires great talent.
Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti are both among the best guitarists and both among the best vocalists. Brian Russell is an absolute beast on bass, and Scott Phillips compliments it all nicely with his sick drumming. Some of their stuff is soft and melodical, and some of it is really heavy. They are extremely versatile. Not to mention, Myles is the most humble musician you'll ever meet. - benhos
This is the stuff of legends. Period.
How can people forget about this band. They have the greatest guitarist of all time, one of the best drummers and bassist of all time. They influenced many bands and revolutionized sounds
in rock music.
You're right, they should be in the top 5, but people always vote for their favourite band, not for the best one - Rocker00
I'm sorry,. I love me some Metallica, but megadeth is so much more talented. Marty Friedman and Dave Mustaine are combined one of the best guitar duos ever. Nick Menza is a beast on drums and David is an excellent bassist. Overall an incredibly talented band. I know Dave isn't a great or even good singer, but he by far makes it up with his ability on the guitar.
Megadeth's riffs and solo's are the most extraordinary things I've ever heard from a band, they also play very fast and Dave Mustaine's lyrics have a lot of meaning. Why are Avenged Sevenfold 3rd? They are mainstream emo posers.
This should be the top, nirvana and coldplay are cool but nothing can compete with the masters of metal
Second only to Dream TheaterV 1 Comment
First heavy metal band ever, should be considered best band ever!.. The heavy bluesyness in there sound melts your soul, in Geezer's lyrics you find yourself, and Ward's jazzy swing never fails... by far, this is the best band of all time.
Black Sabbath is the best they have world greatest guitarist best ever bassist and best ever derumer and vocalists like ronni james dio and ozzy osbourn
They play two chords, whine, and rap cheesy lyrics why are they on this list.
Linkin Park is the best band ever, period. They are extremely talented and have wide varieties of types of music. Look at Mike Shinoda, he can sing, rap, play guitar, piano, is an artist, and also has many more talents I can't even list. Linkin Park Forever!
Very talented and unique vocalist, but other than that their songs aren't hard to play.

Matt plays drums, piano, guitar and sings amazingly! Such a legend. His piano and guitar playing Is better then his drums though. But his voice actually sounds like a guitar on some songs! So talented.
They compose all their music them self and have done a large variety of music from heavy rock to symphonies, just listen to Isolated system a master piece.
Best live act on planet earth. These guys are not human.

Too underrated, this band is literally the most talented band in existence. Although the great vocals may annoy most people, you listen closely and what's that in the background? Oh, only insane 32nd note arpeggios being pulled off by two of the greatest guitarists of our time. With double solos played so clean and perfect like in C'est La Vie, you can't ignore their phenomenal abilities to not make a single mistake in even live performances. Don't forget their incredible bassist showing off in Without Prejudice, or Neal Peart level drumming (if not better) in almost every song played. I've heard many bands, and it's a fact that none can compare to Protest The Hero. But don't forget the technicality. They play with time signatures and polyrhythms badass as Tool, mess with underlying lyric meanings, and make every other complicated aspect of music seem like basic math. They aren't even trying their hardest, look at them in concert swinging their guitarists around while trade-off ...more
Coming from a drummer, Moe Carlson is a far superior drummer to the likes of Neil Peart. As for the rest of the instrumentalists, though I play neither guitar or bass it has to be said that they are very obviously talented. When it comes to the singer, have you heard anyone else with that vocal range who can also scream. In a contest of talent they should easily be top 3 if not number 1. And how someone thinks they are less talented than Coldplay utterly confuses me!
An aspiring metal band out of Ontario that embodies anything intensity could be construed to be. The range of the vocalist is impressive and amazingly flawless performed live, the drummer couldn't possibly make better use of his double bass pedal, and the guitarists pull off intricuit and beautiful parts. There's nothing more demanding than their sound, and they have the off stage personalities to pull it off. They're all around talented kids with an amazing work ethic and over powering stage presence. Not to mention great lyrics.
Underrated band. Crazy guitar and vocals.V 2 Comments
Best band in the world. Why-
Because as an artist I believe that it's not how fast you play,
How complex a song is. But it's how you fit all the elements together. It's how you deliver the feel or emotion of the song.
Radiohead does it perfectly, track after track, album after album, keep in with the time and trend. Never selling out though, they always bring out unique ways of improvising. Best band in the world.
It is a crime that Radiohead is not in the top ten, if not top five. Their songs are complex, lyrical, and topical.
There is no god damn way they should not be in the top 10.

Jim morrison is the best
While the Beatles were pumping out mostly awful overrated music, The Rolling Stones were creating art through their music and instrumental talent. (Ringo Starr cough cough)
Ringo is one of the best drummers of all time.
If it wasnt for the Beatles we never would heard of the rolling stones. the Beatles paved the way for all the british bands. so whoever wrote the above comment is an idiot.
Instead if trotting out the usual superlatives, I'll just say this: Gentle Giant was the band that people would say about their studio albums that there was no way they could reproduce that sort of proficiency and complex playing live on stage... and then Gentle Giant went out there and did it.
This should be in the top 5...just listen to the Free Hand album, the band is ridiculously tight through many very complex songs
The only reason this band isn't #1 is because nobody knows they exist at all.
Proficient musicians as well as great songwriters. - NinjaturtlesforpresidentV 3 Comments
50? How is cream 50? More musically gifted than rush, zeppelin- etc.
Cream has no peers for pure talent.
