Top 10 Most Talented Bands

I don't wanna know who the best sounding band is, but the most talented band!!! Is it Rush, Yes, Avenged Sevenfold, Tool?
The Top Ten
1 Rush Rush was a Canadian progressive rock band that was formed in 1968. The band has had an iconic lineup since 1975, which included Neil Peart (Drums, Percussion), Geddy Lee (Vocals, Bass, Keyboards), and the guitarist, Alex Lifeson. Peart passed away after a 3 year battle with brain cancer in January of 2020. Because of this, Lee says there are no plans to keep the band going, so Rush is most likely defunct. The band has become one of the most well-known progressive rock bands in the world, with such albums as "2112", "Hemispheres" and "Moving Pictures". More than half of their albums have gone gold or platinum, as certified by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America).

Rush is the ultimate power trio. There is no band that deserves to be on this list more than Rush. Rush has made music for 46 years since they got together in 1968 and 40 years since their first album in 1974. Rush has some of the most complex albums and songs ever made. They have made over 20 albums! Unlike other bands they continue to make crazy stuff! Geddy Lee is the best bassist of all time. No one even comes close to Neil. I think you could make a case that Alex Lifeson also belongs in a list among the best guitarists of all time. Rush, Fly By Night, Caress of Steel, 2112, A Farewell to the Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent waves, Moving Pictures, Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire, Presto, Roll the Bones, Counterparts, Test for Echo, Vapor Trails, Feedback, Snakes and Arrows, Clockwork Angels and more is coming! It is insane what these guys managed to do. They crossed so many different genres. First they originated from a Blues Rock/Heavy Metal background ...more

Rush is one of (if not) the most prolific bands to ever hit the rock scene. Neil's ability to masterfully incorporate many different melodic arrangements and time signatures into a single song is mind blowing. Geddy's bass lines are so extremely difficult and abundant that it is a wonder that he can sing and play at the same time. And Alex, one of the most underrated guitar players in history, consistently produces original riffs and new and imaginative solos that ultimately classify Rush as the most talented band still standing. Jimmy Page was god in his day, but Zeppelin has nothing on the combined talents of these three superhumans.

Without a doubt, the most talented band, pound for pound. Neil Peart is without question the best drummer in the world, don't bother making an argument, because it is invalid. Geddy Lee, well, can you play some of the most complex bass riffs, while playing keyboard, AND singing some of the craziest lyrics ever written, at the same time? I didn't think so. It is unfortunate to say that Alex id the "least talented" of the three, which actually doesn't mean anything, because Alex Lifeson is among the best guitarists in the world... You would have to be to keep up with the other two giants in the band.

Rush is no doubt the most talented band in the world. With over 150 songs being so unique and completely different, it's pretty incredible. You can listen to 2112 and then Moving Pictures, Power Windows and Caress of Steel and it will sound like a completely different band. The fact that they have more variety than anyone else out there, makes them deserve the #1 spot. Now I'm only 17 years old and I grew up with Rush, so I've always been a fan. But just a year and a half ago, I really started to explore their music, Sure I've heard all of the other great music, but when I first listened to 2112, Cygnus X-1 Book 2: Hemispheres, By-Tor, The Necromancer and Lamneth, it sounded like nothing I had ever heard before; as well as the other albums besides their Chronicles compilation, I was blown away. Then when I saw Rush in concert, they sound even better in person than they do in the studio! Especially knowing that this is only THREE guys, makes the band even more incredible. They have ...more

2 Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin was an English hard rock band formed in London in 1968 as the New Yardbirds. The group consisted of Robert Plant (Vocal), Jimmy Page (Guitar), John Paul Jones (Bass, Keyboard) and John Bonham (Drums) and was very much the child of Jimmy Page who even financed their first tour. He had tasted some previous success with The [original] Yardbirds and was friendly with some big names in rock. Page states it was Keith Moon of The Who that claimed the band could only go down, like a lead balloon -- thus prompting the iconic name of Led Zeppelin. The band's heavy, guitar-driven sound, rooted in blues and psychedelia on their early albums, has earned them recognition as one of the progenitors ...read more.

Very few bands carry a reputation of having all of their members being nearly equally talented and some of the best musicians in their respective categories in all of rock. In my opinion, in terms of musicianship, these are the bands that have the best all-around talent:
1) Led Zeppelin
2) Queen
3) The Who
4) Black Sabbath
5) Iron Maiden (Number of the Beast lineup, though it's far from their best album.)
6) Megadeth (always had great musicians but most notably the Friedman and Menza lineup)
7) Rush
8) Ozzy Osbourne (First two albums lineup with Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley, and Lee Kerslake)
9) Pink Floyd (Waters, Gilmour, Mason, and Wright)
10) Van Halen (Roth era)

How can this band not be #1? They're certainly one of the best bands of all time. Guitarists like Page don't come around anymore, singers like Plant don't exist, Bonzo's frenetic drumming is hard to come by, and JPJ's talent is insane. This band really should be #1. I love Rush and Queen, but Led Zeppelin is the most talented.

Most talented, creative, musically gifted band of all time.

Jimmy Page: best guitarist of all time. his riffs are heavenly
Robert Plant: one of the greatest voices in music history. passion, power, feeling, grit
John Paul Jones: brings a mature and powerful undertone with his bass few others can match
John Bonham: needs no explanation. god of the drums, no one comes close

Each of the musicians in the band is so talented by themselves! When you put them all together, you get Zeppelin. Not only is the talent level sky high, but the originality and creativity pushed into every song far outweighs bands rated 'more talented' than Zeppelin. W/o zep., there would be no Sevenfold! Vote Zeppelin!

3 Dream Theater Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band from Boston, Massachusetts. The band was formed in 1985 under the name of "Majesty", only to change its name to Dream Theater later.

The members of the band’s original lineup consisted of John Petrucci (Guitar), John Myung (Bass) and Mike Portnoy (Drums). The band had multiple keyboardists and singers, but as of and since 1991, the band's lead vocalist has been James LaBrie.

The band released their debut album "When Day and Dream Unite" in 1989, but only gained success and notoriety after the release of their second album, "Images and Words" in 1992. ...read more.

Rush ahead of Dream Theater? Don't get me wrong... I love both bands... I think rush certainly has better moments, and better songs. In fact, I think 2112 is the best album of all time.. ! But I feel as though Dream Theater has a lot more to offer... They took what rush had, and have continued to expand in direction rush never could... Dream Theater, in my opinion, is the most versatile, creative band of all time.. Rush has the most versatile and creative musician of all time (Geddy) in my opinion, but Dream Theater as a band, I think, simply has more to offer.. and judging by talent, the decider is the guitar Petrucci >Lifeson

John Petrucci is one of the best and is at a level that only many metal guitarists can dream of. Only guitarists who can go up against him are Marty Friedman and Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen too. Mike Portnoy, an awesome drummer. Only one who goes up against him for his complexity are Gar Samuelson and Yoshiki Hayashi. John Myung. The most technical bassist. Cliff, Dave Ellefson, Steve Digiorgio, Justin Chancellor and Steve Harris are the only ones who are in the same league. Dream Theater may not suit everyone's music, but there musical skill is over infinite. One of the most gifted bands in the world. I don't like their music, pretty boring if you ask ( Sorry and a big apology to all the DT fans. ) But I respect them for their Musical Talent.

While many of dream theater's songs are influenced by the psychedelic and progressive rock movements, they continue to provide sublime and novel perspectives which transcend the boundaries of genre. The Dream Theater sound is unique from all other bands and even progressive rock, to which they are exalted as the most prominent.

One can argue that Dream Theater does not take rank among their contemporary genre, but among those with historical acclaim. The understanding of music theory demonstrated by John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess rivals that of music icons, such as Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky or Arnold Schoenberg. I ask that you compare the Dream Theater's Misunderstood Schoenberg's Violin Concerto; you will hear that the uncanniness of DT's piece rivals that of Schoenberg's.

Their insight into the complexities of our musical reality is simply absurd. At times when listening so some of DT's work, it feels as though I am listening to the language of some vastly intelligent ...more

A world record holding drummer in Mike Mangini and a prodigy in Jordan Rudess - you can argue that these two are the best in the world at what they do. Most bands would kill to have the best in the world as one of their band members. Petrucci is right up there too. You could make a case that Dream Theater was the best band years ago. Now that they have acquired Mangini and Rudess, this is the most talented group of rock musicians ever assembled.

4 Queen Queen are an English rock band formed in London in 1970. The original lineup was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar, vocals). Before forming into Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had played together in a band named Smile. Freddie Mercury was a fan of Smile and encouraged them to experiment with more elaborate stage and recording techniques. He then joined the band in 1970, suggested "Queen" as a new band name, and adopted his familiar stage name. John Deacon was also recruited to complete the line-up. ...read more.

Incredible music for several decades. Amazing range from opera to heavy metal, to ragtime, to... you name it. Their albums (especially the first 6) have such a variety of different & amazing music, it blows the mind. A great song is like a piece of art - it can be enjoyed over and over again. Brian May is one of the best guitarists of all time, Freddie was great, and the band together created some really amazing music. Probably the best group ever.

Freddy Mercury has a voice with such a wide reach wich makes that almost nobody can match his voice.
The guitar solo's may sound simple but it's the art to create great solos as simple as possible.
The drums don't easily follow the rhythm that's given but there are a lot of details added to it.
The basslines are just perfect for making the songs full of nice sounds but there are also good bass solos for the fans.

How are Queen not number 1! Insane! All members individually feature in the lists of bests in their field, all were university educated, all wrote songs (amazing ones at that! ), Brian May and John Deacon made their own instruments (guitar and amp) and they had the genius that was Freddie Mercury at the helm. There is NO BAND better than Queen - none!

If you haven't listened to their first 6 albums throughout, then you probably don't know any better. With the exception of Rush, I doubt very seriously that any other group could even come close to playing Queen's early stuff. Add a vocalist like Freddie and lyrics that are incredible, and Queen has no equal.

5 Pink Floyd Pink Floyd are an English progressive rock band formed in 1965 in London, England. They achieved international acclaim with their progressive and psychedelic music. The band consisted of 5 members - David Gilmour (Vocals and Guitar), Syd Barrett (Vocals and Guitar), Nick Mason (Drums), Roger Waters (Vocals and Bass), and Richard Wright (Vocals and Keyboard). Barrett was replaced by Gilmour in 1968. ...read more.

Pink Floyd is a band that demonstrates a lot of qualities that are desirable in a band such as talented members, great composition skills, great lyrics, and evolution over time. They demonstrate revolutionary music that followed a unique form, drawing from previous musical geniuses in rock, jazz, blues, and even classical music through their pioneering of progressive rock. Their albums have a central theme reflecting important matters of life with haunting and philosophical lyrics. All in all, I believe these are reasons that contribute to why pink Floyd is such a great band aside from the musical skill the members showed.

It is true that Pink Floyd contain highly skilled players. However, it is more important to recognize the powerful sound they create for a band of their size. There is something about this band that gives them a sound like no other. Fifty years from now people will continue to be blown away by the rich melodies of Pink Floyd's great albums. In other words, there skill is not completely measured in their technical abilities, but instead by the footprint of their overall sound. which is unique and original to this day.

Everyone in the group is great... except Nick Mason. Basically the same beat for every song, with little variation in feel or dynamics. With everyone else being so innovative, you'd think he'd have made a little more of an effort.

Pink Floys is my favourite but the most talented? Depends on what we consider talent... composing? Playing? Etc... All I can say is: close your eyes and listen to Dave Gilmore... Not many can share those kind of emotions through his guitar.

6 Tool Tool is an American alternative metal/progressive metal band, that was formed in 1990. ...read more.

Tool has to be way higher than this. Their lyrics are like no other band ever Lateralus completely connects to the Fibonacci Sequence and many other songs are not similar to any other songs you have heard. Danny Carey is just god when it comes to the Drums, he is just incredible. Adam Jones' guitar is so powerful when he plays it you can feel the music moving through you. Chancellor can play the base so well they're hard to match him! Keenan can sing so well and every time he sings you can feel the power of his voice. He's even wrestled a guy on the ground and he is still able to sing! Their time signatures are incredible and so weird. Try to play Rosetta Stoned on drums, the song is so long and its just not simple to play at all. Tool is unmatchable.

I have been getting into a lot of TOOL lately, and oh my gosh these guys need to be higher than number 7! I mean not many bands can base the rhythm and lyrics pattern off of a mathematical sequence (the Fibonacci Sequence), and make it work! Heck they didn't just make Laterulas's rhythm work, they made one of the greatest written songs ever written! Yeah you could complain that, "they're too weird," "Their songs are too long," or, "I don't like rock." The thing is though, it takes talent and intellect to come up with the thing they come up with. Justin Chancellor is one heck of a bassist. He has some of the most complex and amazing baselines, period. Not only are they complex in the fact that yo needed to have a really good at playing bass, but the unique and difficult time signatures are what makes his bass lines. Adam Jones's guitar riffs can range from powerful, soothing, hypnotic, chaotic, confusing, and everything in between. Maynard James Keenan not only has a unique and ...more

Danny Carey has enough talent by himself to get Tool in the top 10 of the most talented bands. Have to admit, he's far and away the best drummer of the last 30 years. His brand of odd time-signatures, jazz fusion beats and that insane endurance. He's very much on par with the likes of Peart, Bruford, Collins, Bonham and Moon.

Then there's Justin Chancellor. Any bassist who can stand out is impressive in his own right. Chancellor has probably the hardest job in Tool, and that's bridge the gap between Danny's hard to follow drumming and Adam Jones' experimental and screechy guitar work. As a sidenote, that Wal bass of his is a thing of beauty. I must have it.

I'm not just saying Tool is the best kuz thyre my favourite band, but they all are really amazing!
Justin Chancellor can play the bass like a maniac, and his bass lines are unmatchable, unlike anyone elses!
Danny Carey is a beast when it comes to playing the drums, he is the best no contest
Adam Jones' guitar playing is what gives the songs that feeling hat just gets down into you, like all true music should do... and then theres Maynard James Keenan, man he is an incredible singer who provides Tool with the most amazing, inspiring, deep lyrics I have ever heard... Tool is and always will be my favourite band ever!

7 The Who The Who is an English rock band formed in London, England in 1964. The most recognizable lineup was Roger Daltrey (lead vocals), Pete Townshend (guitar), John Entwistle (bass guitar), and Keith Moon (drums). They are best known for their live performances and hit songs Baba O'Riley, My Generation, and ...read more.

If you've seen the Who live, then you understand that they are the most talented band of all time. It's one thing to listen, but to watch is a completely different experience. John Entwistle and Keith Moon are probably the best bassist and drummer ever, Pete Townshend is one of the best songwriters ever who deserves more credit for his fantastic guitar playing. Also, Roger Daltrey is the opposite of a weak link. He is one of the greatest rock singers of all time who's stutter on My Generation and his famous scream in Won't Get Fooled Again leaves people speechless. I think the Who should be at the top of this list.

Having seen this band and the five others above it on this list live, there is absolutely no comparison. The sound The Who made live was truly unbelievable, it's too bad their recordings sounded so different. Entwistle was the most technically proficient bass player to ever live, far exceeding John Myung and Geddy Lee who are in bands ranked above The Who (on a side note Hadrien Feraud is the best living bass player atm). Keith Moon may not have been the best drummer in the world, but his style was incredibly unique and influential. Daltry's voice really worked well during live performances, and Townsend held his own. I will admit that without Entwistle I would not put them number one, but that guy was so damn talented he truly slingshotted them ahead of the rest. When a band is objectively the best live band ever, it stands to reason that that is a good metric for deducing that they are in fact the most talented band ever.

John Entwistle is a pioneer on bass. Keith Moon is the single most influential drummer ever, inspiring other greats such as John Bonham and Neil Peart. Pete Townshend wasn't a shredder, he was an artist on par with the greatest of all classic rock. Roger Daltrey stacked up pretty evenly with most vocalists and is Robert Plant Sr. The Who's ability to blend conflicting amounts of talent and personalities is what put them over the top, being able to work together in a setting that would cause most musicians of their caliber to fail.

Let's face John Entwistle and Keith Moon were probably the single greatest Bassist and Drummer ever. And Pete Townshend was both a great guitarist and one of the greatest songwriters of all time. It says a lot about how great the rest of the band are that Roger Daltrey (one of the greatest frontmen of all time) is the weak link. Also virtually invented the Rock Opera and created the two greatest examples of that genre.

8 Deep Purple Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach changed over the years. Originally formed as a progressive rock band, the band shifted to a heavier sound in 1970. Deep Purple, ...read more.

Belongs in the top 10. Still together today and touring after 50 years! They were the inspiration for many heavy metal bands. Classically trained John Lord and genius guitar player Ritchie Blackmore are joined by the powerful voice of Ian Gillan (also sang the part of Jesus in the original album Jesus Christ Superstar) to make up the Mark II lineup of this very talented band.

Why is purple not top 5... AT LEAST top 10? Oh that's right.. Because no one knows who DP is for some reason other than the hits - "highway star", "smoke on the water", "hush", "woman from Tokyo," "space truckin", and MAYBE "burn" if that. I'm not sure why they've been excluded with the other greats today but listen to the mk2 and 3 lineups studio and live albums and watch a DVD of their musical unison.. I think most will change your mind. m/

WHAT! Deep Purple deserves Top Five! We see The Beatles, Pink Floyd and A7X ahead of the most talented hard rock group ever. Stupid fanboys.

Only one band on this list could do a 20-40 minute improvisation piece every night on tour., enough said!

9 Iron Maiden Iron Maiden are an English Heavy Metal band formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. The most critically acclaimed period for the band was from 1983-1989. With vocalist Bruce Dickinson, bassist Steve Harris, lead guitarist Dave Murray, rhythm guitarist Adrian ...read more.

As far as most skilled at their instruments, the top 10 should be all metal bands. now if you include how good a bands songs were which is obviously what were doing here then its not, because metal is underground. Iron maiden is my favorite band and I love all metal except screamo, but like honestly the only reason why this top 10 isn't filled with metal bands is because metal is an underground genre of music

Who better? Maiden has skill, memorable tunes, and most importantly- consistency. Lasting power! Maiden has rocked for decades.

Get stuffed Metallica. Not that you're talentless but Iron Maiden is just better, to put it simply. UP THE IRONS!

They have to be higher on the list when you think of overall talent. Dickensons's vocals, Harris's skill with the bass, come on.

10 The Beatles The Beatles were an English pop rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were soon known as the foremost and most influential act of rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later ...read more.

The Beatles laid the foundation for what would be modern music. In addition to that the quality of their music was superb. The songwriting partnership of John Lennon and Paul McCartney was undoubtedly one of the greatest partnerships of all time. Four extremely talented people brought together to create a beautiful band. They brought out the best in each other, with John Lennon tackling more controversial matters and Paul McCartney generally sticking within the realm of light hearted pop music. Thus, they would compete with each other and attempt the other's retrospective "realm" of songwriting. Do not forget George Harrison for a second, on the other hand. His song "Something" was said by John Lennon to be the best on the album "Abbey Road" which is commonly thought to be one of the greatest albums of all time. Even Ringo Starr, who was generally believed to be the least talented of the three provided a solid tempo through innovative drum lines. There are spectacular bands out there, ...more

The Beatles were the greatest band of all time. They are in a class by themselves. Their music will live on until the end of time. All other bands will be forgotten just as they shiuld be.

If you really love rock music you can easily make the statement the Beatles are the most talented.

Seems like a no brainer. Greatest song writing duo ever. Paul and George I think are under rated musicians.

The Contenders
11 Red Hot Chili Peppers The Red Hot Chili Peppers is an American funk-rock and alternative rock band, that was founded in 1983. ...read more.

Flea seems to be spiritually connected to his instrument, unbelievable talent.
John Frusciante was as well, he has been the creative power of the band for many years. Still, Josh Klinghoffer is one hell of a guitarist. Comparisons can hardly be made between those two, I love them both.
Chad Smith is the best live drummer I have ever seen, and I saw a lot. As a member of the band said: Flea led the jam sessions before Chad became a part of it.
Anthony Kiedis is not the best live singer, everybody knows that. But nobody really cares, he has a unique voice that is worth hearing any wrong note. Additionally, he writes beautiful lyrics and has a feeling for the best possible vocal melodies

Incredible band. The talent put forth to create songs like Under the Bridge and Snow (Hey Oh) is incredible. The guitar from John Frusciante is incredible, Anthony Kiedis's voice is great, the drums from Chad Smith keep the timing perfect, and Flea's bass is truly amazing. Great band.

It is not that I believe that they should be in the top ten, I feel that they should be on the top of this list. This is a talent list, and if you actually listened and compared them to the rest of these artist (who are all good) you would hear their undeniably superior talent.

With the lineup of John Frusciante, Flea, Chad Smith, and Anthony Kiedis, it is hard to imagine a band with more energy, style, and raw talent as the Chili Peppers. Just listen to their album Blood Sugar Sex Magik and you'll know what I'm talking about.

12 Yes Yes is an English progressive rock band formed in 1968 by bassist Chris Squire and singer Jon Anderson. They first achieved success in the 1970s with a progressive, art and symphonic style of rock music. Their best known song is their 1971 hit "Roundabout" off of their album Fragile.

From 1971-72, Yes bolstered (outside of Rush) THE most talented group ever. Unlike Rush though, that comprised of 5 members, not just 3. You had one of the best 3 keyboardists in Rick Wakeman, a top 10 drummer in Bill Bruford, one of the best singer/lyricists in Jon Anderson, a top 5 bassist in Chris Squire and one of the best on a long list of great guitarists in Steve Howe. Alan White (Bruford's replacement) is up there as well, as was Patrick Moraz, who replaced Wakeman on Relayer. So up until the end of the 70's, Yes had the best collection of talent in a lineup of any band.

Assuming "talented" means "technically adept", Yes has had the most "talent" come and go throughout their ranks over a number of years... Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Jon Anderson, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman, Patrick Moraz, Alan White, even Trevor Horn (in his own way). All of 'em monster players and songwriters.

Those who play music understand how difficult and technically advanced most of Yes' music really is. There's no bank requiring more musical talent and ability than Yes.

Listen to every song with guitarist Steve how. Then you'll know why they should be number 1. They Inspired Rush. Listen to "Heart of the sunrise". All 11 minutes. Even the reprise of "we have heaven"

13 Metallica Metallica is an American Heavy/Thrash Metal band formed in 1981. The original lineup was James Hetfield (Vocalist and Rhythm guitarist), Dave Mustaine (Lead Guitar), Lars Ulrich (Drums), Ron McGovney (Bassist). The group came into mainstream from their Self-Titled album and the hit single "Enter Sandman"... read more

Metallica is a band that is consistently changing for themselves, it's refreshing to hear a ballad thrown in on an otherwise heavy album. Their phenomenal success over the years and loyal fans is one of the reasons they're a brilliant band. Not to mention, the band members are wonderfully real people.

Look, when I chose Metallica as my favourite band, it was for a reason, they're very talented. Please, before saying that Lars (my favourite drummer behind John Bonham) is overrated, please, listen to the early albums. Besides, Metallica had the best bassist ever, Cliff Burton.

Metallica is the Greatest Band ever James THe best frontman, kirk the best guitarist and lars the best drummer. I don't under stan why metallica is 9th in this list.

14 The Jimi Hendrix Experience The Jimi Hendrix Experience was an English-American rock band that formed in Westminster, London, in September 1966. Composed of singer, songwriter, and guitarist Jimi Hendrix, bassist and backing vocalist Noel Redding, and drummer Mitch Mitchell, the band was active until June 1969. During this time they released three successful studio albums.

How can people forget about this band. They have the greatest guitarist of all time, one of the best drummers and bassist of all time. They influenced many bands and revolutionized sounds
in rock music.

15 Opeth Opeth is a Swedish progressive death metal band from Stockholm, formed in 1990 by David Isberg, who invited Mikael Akerfeldt into the band as a bassist. Isberg ended up leaving the band, which lead to Mikael becoming the band's vocalist, guitarist, principal songwriter, and driving force. Along with ...read more.

People who voted on this list don't play any instrument and don't pay attention to the complexity, transitions, musicianship, etc.

Queen is at 4 ?
Tool at 6 ? Opeth is more complex and more talented than Tool in every way except drumming.
Beatles at 10 ?
And why is Yes at 13 below bands like the Beatles ? Opeth is super talented in every, yes, every aspect of music.

Okay so I get that Opeth doesn't use a style that everybody likes, but they deserve to be much higher on this list. From incredible lyric meanings to powerful deliverance of those lyrics, accompanied by some awesome riffs and harmony, Opeth does it all.

16 Primus Primus is an American funk metal band based in San Francisco, California, currently composed of bassist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Tim Alexander. Les Claypool is regarded as one of the best bassists of all time for his slap-bass ability in notable songs like "My Name Is Mud", "The Toys Go Winding Down", and "Jerry Was a Racecar Driver".

I'm so glad that they are in the top 50! I thought I would have to add them.

Les Claypool : One of the most talented bassists of all time. Original singer, although heavily inspired by The Residents. If you like numbers, he has almost four octaves (quite good).

Larry Ler LaLonde : Very versatile and creative guitarist. Quite underrated, but give a listen to what he does with the band, it's very original.

Tim Herb Alexander : An otherworldly drummer. He never bores you. He is very musical and melodic. His drums sing a tune by themselves. Any drummer will like him.

Les Claypool I would say is tied for the greatest bassist of all time with Geddy Lee. But I think Larry LaLonde and Tim Alexander are very underrated because the live in Claypool's shadow. LaLonde actually is a pretty sick, fast guitarist and for Tim Alexander... Listen to Frizzle Fry. Primus should definitely be higher on the list.

This list was really good up until the part where I didn't see Primus. Les Claypool is tied for best bassist ever with Geddy Lee. Everyone underrates the guitarist and drummer because they live in the shadow of Claypool. The drumming on Frizzle Fry is amazing and the Jerry was a Racecar Driver solo is pretty sick.

AMAZING instrumentals, doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard before. Of course Les Claypools singing isn't exactly what I'd call good, but it fits their sound nicely. Really great drumming, amazing bass playing, and incredibly under appreciated guitar work.

17 Toto Toto is an American rock band formed in 1977 in Van Nuys in Los Angeles. The band's current lineup consists of Joseph Williams, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, Steve Lukather, plus touring members Leland Sklar and Shannon Forrest.

Seriously, just take a look at each of the musicians in Toto. They've all been requested and used many other artists. Yes, dream theater is the most technically proficient group I've ever heard. But that's what they are-technically perfect. Toto moves your soul. Dream theater doesn't touch your soul. I am in no way knocking how incredible they are. Anyone could even argue that this is apples and oranges. The kind of band dream theater is is unique. To Dos uniqueness lies in their ability to be cohesive, so phone, and be in perfect harmony with their singing as well as her plane. Yes, Toto has to be number one.

THE most talented group of musicians on planet earth (this actually verbalized by no other than Eddie Van Halen). They have a history of being shot down by music critics BECAUSE of their extraordinary talent, claiming that this was an "assembled" band of session musicians and thus labelled "corporate rock". Nothing can be further from the truth. They are all indeed extremely well respected session musicians. The late brothers Jeff and Mike Porcaro, Steve Porcaro, David Paich and...of course, "Luke" Steve Lukather were all go-to session musicians, writers, composers, elite musicians. This all comes out in their music. Forget Africa and Rosanna and dig into their archive of excellent, lasting music. You also can't listen to over 30 minutes of rock or pop radio, anywhere in the world, at any time and not hear at least one of these guys playing.

I am so sorry, but this list is horrible. Many of you know Toto by songs like Africa, Rosanna which are their pop songs. But believe me Toto are much more than this, Toto are world class musicians, they could easily outplay Rush, Dream Theater or any other band. They have played almost all genres that there is on the world because they are all session musicians. Jeff Porcaro (RIP) was a legendary drummer and still is the best ever. Nobody comes close to him. Steve Lukather is just amazing guitarist and virtuoso. Let's not forget to mention amazing David Paich who co-wrote many Boz Scaggs and even Steely Dan songs and of course Porcaro brothers. Overall Toto members wrote or co-wrote most 80s and 90s hits. They can play anything you give em, pop, rock, soul, R&B, Fusion... Anything. You guys should really listen to them and also Lukather's solo stuff. Talent overload!

This list is supposed to be most talented, not your favourite. In terms of talent, the musicians of toto are so far ahead of the rest of the guys on this list that's it's frankly embarrassing. If it were football, they would have no one to play against as they would be the on,y team in the league lol
Seriously though. Lukather is not the most recorded guitarist of all time for nothing, just to mention one member. Porcaro (rest in peace Jeff) once had his bass pedal playing tested against a metronome by. Bunch of science boffins and he beat the feckin machine for accuracy. Guys, don't even dare talk about any of the rest of these pretenders on the list in the same league as toto in terms of talent..

18 The Rolling Stones The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. The first settled line-up consisted of Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Ian Stewart (piano), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar), Bill Wyman (bass) and Charlie Watts (drums). The Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2004. In 2012, the band celebrated its 50th anniversary.

While the Beatles were pumping out mostly awful overrated music, The Rolling Stones were creating art through their music and instrumental talent. (Ringo Starr cough cough)

If it wasnt for the Beatles we never would heard of the rolling stones. the Beatles paved the way for all the british bands. so whoever wrote the above comment is an idiot.

Ringo is one of the best drummers of all time.

21 Alice In Chains Alice in Chains is an American grunge/alternative metal band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1987 by guitarist and songwriter Jerry Cantrell and original lead vocalist Layne Staley.

Man in the Box, Rooster, Would, No Excuses, etc... enough said. Best songs and one of the best bands of all time! May possibly have been slightly overshadowed by some of the more mainstream hits and bands of the 90's but many will agree that Alice in Chains was unique and something everybody can relate to in their music. They will live on forever...

One of the most talented bands ever.

Down in a Hole...enough said!

22 Pentatonix Pentatonix is an American a cappella group from Arlington, Texas, consisting of vocalists Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola and Matt Sallee.

A cappella group with a hell of a talent. Lead & Baritone Scott Hoying has an amazing voice and can do better riffs and runs than anyone I've ever heard. Tenor Mitch Grassi has a sweet satisfying voice and has a large vocal range but is mostly known for his high voice. Not to mention he's hot as hell. Soprano Kirstie Maldanodo has a very beautiful voice being the only girl in this band she can rock the stage and has a fun personality. Bass Avi Kaplan does his part very well he has an extremely low voice and does his part very well. Last but not least Beatboxer Kevin Olusa also known as K.O. amazing beat boxer best I've ever heard and can probably do an imitation of any instrument. These guys won season 4 of the sing offs with judges Ben Folds, Sara Bariels, and Shawn Stockman. Won the 2015 Grammys with Best musical or A cappella arrangement and are nominated for the same award for the 2016 Grammys. Has appeared on the Amas Cmas and many other award shows. Gone Platinum in the USA and ...more

Everyone just calls A7X an overrated hard rock band who don't have much depth. But I guarantee that if you listen to any song on their album City of Evil, you will hear all the characteristics of music that define prog, and how they make their prog sound so seamless. You will hear the guitar tracks overloaded with crazy riffs, different riffs/ solos playing on multiple tracks throughout the song along with the Neil Peart- style drumming of The Rev. I mean The Rev will use every imaginable inch of the drumset, and I wouldn't be surprised if he went beyond that, to make the intense drum sound he does. And the lyrics are always hidden messages, complex stories to push across simple morals, and more. I mean, The Rev really was like a modern Neil Peart in every way. So please have a listen of City of Evil before you write this band off as untalented.

Avenged Sevenfold get too much hate! They are outstandingly talented; they are the band that got me into metal music! In case you do not know why they are talented, I will give you some reasons.

- M Shadows has a beautiful voice that goes both high and low. He can sing and scream and make it all sound beautiful. His voice is rusty and scratchy but it makes the heavy songs sound awesome and the soft songs sound soothing. He is overall a singing badass with spectacular muscles!

- Synyster Gates is extremely talented! He creates crazy awesome guitar riffs and can create sounds that I didn't think were possible! Did you also know he sings? His voice is like an angel! Just listen to seize the day backing vocals and you will not be disappointed. He is one of the most talented guitarists I have ever heard.

- Zacky Vengeance is an awesome guy. His playing is amazing and most people don't really hear it because they think it's Syn playing when actually they are both ...more

I personally actually do agree with the power trio RUSH being at top.
I only vote A7x because they are still highly underrated, and Shadow's voice is actually the greatest in my opinion. They're songwriting is inarguably of high standard and of deep thought, MOST of the time. Despite Rush and Dream Theater still doing their stuff, this band has done much more for music in general than any other band in this millenium.

Avenged Sevenfold has it all. They have a great vocalist with Matt Shadows incredible voice and not just 1 but 2 great guitarists. Zacky and Synyster both do a great job on their instruments. I'm actually surprised to see them in the top ten above a lot of other super talented bands. But on the other hand, A7X can compare well to these other bands in talent.

25 Van Halen Van Halen was an American hard rock band formed in Pasadena, California, in 1972. From 1974 until 1985, the band consisted of guitarist Eddie Van Halen, vocalist David Lee Roth, drummer Alex Van Halen, and bassist Michael Anthony.

This band is amazing, don't forget Michael Anthony the best back up vocalist of all time.. deserves top 5.. and eddies the best bands down
