1 Dream Theater Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band from Boston, Massachusetts. The band was formed in 1985 under the name of "Majesty", only to change its name to Dream Theater later.

The members of the band’s original lineup consisted of John Petrucci (Guitar), John Myung (Bass) and Mike Portnoy (Drums). The band had multiple keyboardists and singers, but as of and since 1991, the band's lead vocalist has been James LaBrie.

Great band. The complex song structures are a key factor in their music. They have some long songs too. I mean Octavarium is nearly a half hour long! Ha ^_^

2 Necrophagist Necrophagist is a German technical death metal band, founded and fronted by guitarist and vocalist Muhammed Suiçmez.

These guys have some really complex song structures. Fast drums, intricate guitar riffs, varied time signatures, etc. They're a great death metal band.

3 Death Death was an American death metal band formed in 1983 by Chuck Schuldiner. Death is considered to be one of the most influential bands in heavy metal and a pioneering force in death metal. Its debut album, Scream Bloody Gore, has been widely regarded as the first death metal record, while the band's driving force, Chuck Schuldiner, is acknowledged as the "Godfather of Death Metal." Death released 7 studio albums, and are the band that started the Florida Death Metal scene. They were known for their death metal classics Lack of Comprehension and Crystal Mountain. Death ended in 2001 when Schuldiner died of Brain Cancer.

They have technical drum work on Symbolic and Sound of Perseverance. Rest in peace Chuck Schuldiner.

9 Behemoth Behemoth is a Polish blackened death metal band from Gdańsk, formed in 1991. They are considered to have played an important role in establishing the Polish extreme metal underground.

I think it goes for behemoth :)..I mean they have got awesome structure for their songs..catchy guitar riffs, fast drumming beats and kick-ass solos..hear the guitar work in songs like Sculpting the throne of seth, Conquer all, slaves shall serve, Transmigrating Beyond Realms ov Amenti and Lucifer and their drummer is really awesome..and nergal has got awesome unique vocal style, but I can't deny that they use so much backing vocals from Orion in their songs...

10 Capharnaum

I doubt that many have heard of this band. Really good band but only two albums. Fractured is very technical and cool. Check em out if you haven't.
