Top Ten Most Underrated Bands

I've decided to create this list after I discover some great great stuff by the very unknown bands - so let's have "your" opinion to this.
The Top Ten
1 Porcupine Tree Porcupine Tree are an English progressive rock band formed by musician Steven Wilson in 1987. The band began essentially as a solo project for Wilson, who created all of the band's music.

Most of the bands listed above are household names!

... Anyway Porcupine Tree are a band who are constantly reinventing themselves. Though they have been coined as a 'prog' band, their music owes just as much to psychedelic rock, metal, ambient and krautrock. They are also surprisingly accessible at times, to the point where I could safely say that anyone with an open musical palette (progressive or otherwise) could appreciate the majority of their albums.

This band is much larger outside its own country (UK) and while they are greatly admired within the progressive rock community they are largely unknown outside of it (at least in the UK). No band has had such a dramatic influence on my musical tastes than this one...

Come on guys QUEEN and GUNS AND ROSES are sooo underrated. I mean come on they don't play them on pop radio like 30 years later! Laugh out loud this list is hilarious. In absentia only sold like 100,000 copies. Queen has gone so many times plantinum it's not even funny. Find one person who doesn't know we are the champions, we will rock you, or bohemian rhapsody and you deserve a prize. Find somebody who DOES know trains, blackest eyes, arriving somewhere but not here etc...

2 Queen Queen are an English rock band formed in London in 1970. The original lineup was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar, vocals). Before forming into Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had played together in a band named Smile. Freddie Mercury was a fan of Smile and encouraged them to experiment with more elaborate... read more

Queen is not underrated. I mean, they're one of the best-selling bands in the world, they're known for their influence and critical reception and of course, most people who are into music know who Freddie Mercury is.

They are a great band nonetheless, but know what underrated means. Underrated means a band or music artist that, while good, doesn't get enough reputation and attention, alongside being rather obscure, especially for novice music fans. In contrast, even non-rock fans know who Queen are.

Queen is simply the most underrated band I know. They have experienced with many different kinds of music. Listen to "You're My Best Friend," then "Stone Cold Crazy," then "Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon." They are all very different kinds of music. Queen made great music for almost twenty years, and although they lost fans in the 80's, that doesn't mean they don't deserve many more. Among my favorites are "One Year of Love," "Radio Ga Ga," and "Who Wants to Live Forever." Queen is a band who's songs should be rated 39 out of 5 (get it, Queen fans? ), and should not be underrated.

3 ABBA ABBA are a Swedish pop group formed in Stockholm in 1972 by members Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

ABBA most certainly were underrated. Maybe not so much now. But they were sneered at by the so called 'serious' music critics and their music derided as 'bubblegum pop'. Well it's sure long lasting bubblegum because it's a sound that is loved to this day. Remember, this band was dead as far as the music establishment were concerned by the mid 80's. Nobody even mentioned them to reform for Band Aid or Live Aid. It wasn't till the early 90's that respected figures in Rock and Pop were happy to admit the genius of ABBA.

Abba underrated? Are you kidding me? You should look up the definition of the word 'underrated'. Abba received all sort of recognitions throughout the years. They even made a musical and a movie because of the quality of their work. I am sorry, but Abba are FAR from being underrated. As for not being 'cool', that's not a justification. In the 60s, Rolling Stones fan considered The Beatles' fans "not cool"; would you call The Beatles underrated because of that? Come on.

4 The Smashing Pumpkins The Smashing Pumpkins is an American alternative rock band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1988. Formed by frontman Billy Corgan and James Iha, the band included D'arcy Wretzky and Jimmy Chamberlin in its original incarnation. They are also considered to be one of the most influential alternative bands of the 1990s.

No surprise this is at #7. It should be number one thou. A band that pass now almost unidentified yet they represent an absolute symbol of the 90's vibes and way of thinking in that generation. The ending of an era (20th century), the coming of age and the certainty that good times wont last forever, only memories last and the most treasured carelessness of youth lives on in our hearts only. Depressive yet hopefull, rough yet so calm an heartwarming. Just the Pumpkins. The most underrated band that I have knowledge of.

OK, as good as Smashing Pumpkins are, they're not underrated. They're considered to be one of the (if not) the biggest 90s alternative bands.

The Smashing Pumpkins are really underrated. They are a very talented rock band and they deserve more credit.

I have three of their albums that I have hardly listened to since they been a disappointment.

5 The Kinks The Kinks were an English rock band formed in Muswell Hill, North London, in 1964 by brothers Ray and Dave Davies. They are regarded as one of the most important and influential rock bands of the 1960s.

The Kinks have countless amazing rock and pop songs, from You Really Got Me and I Need You, to Waterloo Sunset, to Lola and Powerman. They, like the best bands of their time, changed their style through the years, from their fast, simple, catchy tunes, to softer rock, then hitting heavy. You just can't rate them lower than the Doors, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd, and even the Rolling Stones. Once you hear Dave Davies's rough-edged guitar playing, you can't deny them as one of the greatest bands of all time. They're only underrated, because, like The Zombies, another British rock band at the time, the band just had bad connections (they didn't have George Martin).

Most underrated band ever. That's it.
everybody talks about how Pink Floyd and Queen are great.
But they are not The Kinks.
The Kinks are truly the best.
Just listen to any of their songs,
They are addictive, catchy, clever, funny, sometimes they make you laugh and they are still relevant for today.

6 Nightwish Nightwish is a symphonic metal band from Kitee, Finland. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and lead singer Tarja Turunen. It's currently formed by Tuomas, Emppu, lead vocalist Floor Jansen, bassist and vocalist Marco Hietala, multiinstrumentist and vocalist Troy Donockley, and drummer Jukka Nevalainen (currently on hiatus and replaced by Kai Hahto).

This band is the perfect blend of rock and metal with just a simple touch of classic. Either way this band is an excellent band. Its such a shame being that very few people I met even know their name. But either way this band is the type of band is that simple crown Jewel that is worth the search.

One of my favorites.

7 Years and Years
8 Pink Floyd Pink Floyd are an English progressive rock band formed in 1965 in London, England. They achieved international acclaim with their progressive and psychedelic music. The band consisted of 5 members - David Gilmour (Vocals and Guitar), Syd Barrett (Vocals and Guitar), Nick Mason (Drums), Roger Waters (Vocals and Bass), and Richard Wright (Vocals and Keyboard). Barrett was replaced by Gilmour in 1968... read more

Come on! I love Pink Floyd but on what planet are they 'underrated! '. They get exactly the recognition they deserve and perhaps a little more! If Piper at the gates of dawn was released today it would get laughed at! Ummagumma would be applauded for its live section and dismissed simply as noise for its studio effort. Their 70s output is incredible however and is widely viewed as such.

Pink Floyd where the Who of Progressive Rock. Ideas and songwriting made up the difference for not being quite as good musically as say Yes, Gabriel era Genesis, ELP or King Crimson. Pink Floyd never had the snob thing quite as bad as the others. Marijuana made them my favorite band in high school from 75 to 78.

I would not necessarily say the band as a whole is underrated, however, it has many underrated albums of songs. Everyone know another brick in the wall, comfortably numb, wish you were her, money etc. But pink floyd has some other amaing songs like astronimy donime lucifer sam, a saucerful of secrets, hight hopes, not now john, fearless at loads of other stuff.

9 Deep Purple Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach changed over the years. Originally formed as a progressive rock band, the band shifted to a heavier sound in 1970. Deep Purple, together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of... read more

The mighty Deep Purple helped to creat both hard rock and heavy metal, most people think that it was soley down to Zeppelin and Sabbath, but the Album Deep Purple In Rock WAS being made at the same time as Black Sabbath was, listen to both of them and then tell me which one is heavier. Besides from that they effectively created many sub-genres of heavy metal that are widely used today; power metal, neo-classical metal, progressive metal and symphonic metal and they hugely influenced thrash metal and New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands such as Iron Maiden. Along with this, they made probably the greatest metal live album of all time: Made in Japan, and created many other great albums under Mark II and Mark III, such as In Rock, Machine Head, Fireball and Burn. They were probably the second biggest band in the early 70's after Led Zeppelin and have sold approximately 150 million records to date. They are most famous though for their classic Smoke on the Water, which is probably the most famous riff in history. For this reason amongst many others, it has led many people to believe that Deep Purple are a one hit wonder, which is far from the truth, therefore they are undeniably one of the most underrated bands of all time.

10 Rainbow Rainbow are a British rock band led by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore from 1975 to 1984 and 1993 to 1997. They were originally established with Ronnie James Dio as the lead singer and lyricist. Rainbow were ranked No. 90 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. The band has sold over 28 million albums ...read more.

14 Ultravox
15 Transplants
16 Creedence Clearwater Revival Creedence Clearwater Revival, often shortened to Creedence and abbreviated as CCR, was an American rock band active in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

So underrated that even my parents say they've never heard of them!
Maybe not everybody knows about the band, but everyone has heard at least one song by them, but still, they're one of the most underrated rock bands.

Are you kidding me. The really deserving bands are the ones with few votes

The most underrated ever.

19 Cinderella Cinderella was an American glam metal and hard rock band from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The band emerged in the mid-1980s with a series of multi-platinum albums and hit singles whose music videos received heavy MTV rotation.

I hate hair metal and one of the number one reasons is great talent became music posers in my book. Yes it was a noble effort getting chicks to like metal but metal does not need pretty boy, crotch grabbing hankie on your head nimrods. This is uploaded to be about Satan or horror movie themes.

Unjustly labeled as pop metal because of their looks (well, and music) in their early days. Their second and third albums are true classics. I read that Tom Keifer bust his voice in the early 90's. Nevertheless, they didn't get the attention they deserved before that either.

Hiding awesome musical talent behind the pretty faces and great hair.

These guys should be treated better than this!

20 Siouxsie and The Banshees Siouxsie and the Banshees were an English rock band, formed in London in 1976 by vocalist Siouxsie Sioux and bass guitarist Steven Severin. They have been widely influential, both over their contemporaries and with later acts.
21 Draconian
22 Alter Bridge Alter Bridge is an American hard rock/alternative metal band from Orlando, Florida, formed in 2004. The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Myles Kennedy, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips.

I love how every band in the top 10 is a name everybody from 3 to 87 years old knows their name and k ows at least 5 songs from them. This website is packed full of 12 year olds who think they have the greatest taste in everything and are smarter than their parents.

These guys deserve so much more credit for the AWESOME stuff they do Myles Kennedy is a god Mark Tremonti is so underrated as a guitarist. Scott Phillips is a great drummer who not many people know about and Brian Marshell is brilliant on the bass.

Alter Bridge are an immortal rock band that was born in the wrong era. These guys are seriously right up there with Guns N' Roses and Metallica. And that is not simply a fan's opinion. That is a FACT.

23 No Secrets No Secrets was an American-British girl group with five members: Angel Faith, Carly Lewis, Erin Tanner, Jessica Fried and Jade Ryusaki.
