Most Underrated Countries

These are the most underrated countries on earth, unlike France, Britain or the USA, who are considered as overrated.
The Top Ten
1 Poland Poland, officially the Republic of Poland, is a country in Central Europe, bordered by Germany to the west; the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south; Ukraine and Belarus to the east; and the Baltic Sea, Kaliningrad Oblast (a Russian exclave) and Lithuania to the north. With a population of approximately 38.5 million people, Poland is the sixth most populous member state of the European Union... read more

Okay, so I'm from the U.S., and starting when I was 12, for literally no reason at all, I took an interest in Polish culture and language and was so curious about it that I actually taught myself Polish over the course of a few years. I have no idea why I ever took interest, because I am not of Polish descent, or even of European, but I am so very glad Poland has found a place in my life.
The country is so, SO beautiful, so underrated but part of the beauty is the fact that it's such a hidden gem of a country. The countryside is lovely, and the cities are vibrant and colorful. Visit, and not a moment will pass where you will be bored, trust me.

The United States of America is often quoted as being the most free, democratic country in the world. What most people don't know is that before the invasion of Poland in 1939, the start of World War II, Poland was the most tolerant, liberal, democratic and free country in Europe. There was simply no racism. Even America couldn't make that claim back then. Poland took in Jews, Africans and many other minorities, when no other country would. It is a country rich in history, kings and castles. Poland has historically shown bravery and resiliency, never had started a war or invaded another country in its 1000 year history (yes, that's a thousand with 3 zeros). In fact, it always had to defend itself and it did so successfully, against many enemies, throughout its history. Poland never attacked, always defended. In fact, even when outnumbered, by the Germans in 1939 and smashed to pieces, the polish army still put up a brave fight. Legend has it that the Polish army used horses and swords against the German tanks. I sure wish Poland was liberated by The Unites States of America and not Russia (who in fact didn't liberate anything but rather stole Poland and its identity, put it under communistic rule for close to 50 years). Anyway, Poland is underrated for so many reasons, many already mentioned by others. It's a first world country, in the center of Europe, very pro America, great country sides, fresh wonderful local food, affordable real estate, companies all over the world investing in Poland, much more calmer life style and true democracy.

2 Bhutan Bhutan, officially the Kingdom of Bhutan, is a landlocked country in South Asia at the eastern end of the Himalayas. It is bordered by China to the north and India to the south. Nepal and Bangladesh are located in proximity to Bhutan but do not share a land border. The country has a population of over 754,000 and a territory of 38,394 square kilometers (14,824 sq mi) which ranks 133rd in terms of land area, and 160th in population. Bhutan is a constitutional monarchy with Vajrayana Buddhism as the state religion.

Bhutan is the cleanest asian nation in the entire world, tobacco & alcohol goes against the ancient ritual practices of the bhutanese people, the bhutanese people have amazing geopolitical/political relations with all of its neighboring geographical neighbors very peacefully, crime & violence doesn't exist in Bhutan & its leadership throughout its entire existence has been elected young/youthful throughout many millennias. Bhutan's core focus is to bring world peace throughout the entire world

With the Himalayas and the better HDI than Nepal, this is the Switzerland of Asia!

This landlocked country deserves more recognition. Also, love the flag. Haha

3 Canada Canada is a country in North America that is next to the United States, and it's the 2nd largest country in the world by area (size is 9.985 million km²). Its 10 provinces are: Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Prince... read more

Many people believe Canada is full of igloos and maple syrup but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Some of the best cities in the world are in Canada! In Vancouver you can snowboard and surf in one day and Toronto is one of North America's largest and fastest growing cities. Quebec City is one of the best examples of European architecture outside of Europe and Montreal is one of the most underrated cities in my opinion. Come to Canada and check it out for yourself!

I live in Canada and if I was a tourist I would visit one of the popular cities like Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto. The food is great, you can't leave Canada without trying poutine, and if you come to Toronto you should go downtown because there are a lot of cool and strange store to see, or go to Canada's wonderland which is very popular but kinda expensive

Exetremly underrated. I'm Canadian and I see memes created by Americans down in the USA like meanwhile in Canada and there is like a person with a pet polar bear. Yeah it was a little funny but also a lot of people in the USA will believe in such garbage. Canada knows more about the U.S.A

4 France France, officially the French Republic, is a sovereign state comprising territory in western Europe and several overseas regions and territories. The European part of France, called metropolitan France, extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. Most people know nothing about France except for Paris, even though its cities are beautiful and its history is interesting. Most people take Spanish instead of French because they think it is easier and more useful. (Both of these are wrong; French and Spanish are just as difficult, and there are more French-speaking countries in the world than Spanish-speaking countries) Most people think French people are rude, which they are not; in fact, French people are some of the nicest people I have ever met. This should definitely be number one.

Amazing country, simply beautiful, very open minded.
Don't listen to the stereotypes, all my encounters with French people were always really pleasant, I mean you'll have rednecks everywhere, France too, but I've never met any.
Just go there and take a breath and relax, it's just a cool country and has to be visited but not only Paris. Paris maybe is far to represent France, even French think that Parisian are a bit crazy.
Try Brittany, Atlantic coast, Provence, Jura, Alsace and so many fantastic regions.
GDP: Ranked 6th.

Why France is one of most underrated country, because not known enough and not recognized at fair value:

Lots of different landscapes, architectures, more than 36 000 villages and cities, lots of different cultures etc...
Famous for its food, gastronomy, for its History (for the best and worst), its known thousands of castles (e.G. versailles, Castles of the Loire Valley (Chateaux de la Loire)),
Its river network (the first in Europe), ski area (the largest in Europe) etc..

Among the most beautiful beaches in the world, because of many Islands and territories like:
- Part of Amazon basin (French Guyana),
- French Polynesia with about 120 among the most beautiful Islands (Pacific Ocean), - French Caribbean with various known islands (Atlantic Ocean),
- Reunion, Mayotte are splendid islands (Indian Ocean)
Etc..

And France (mainland) surrounded by North Sea, Atlantic Sea and Mediterranean.
That makes France one of the rare countries flanked by 4 ...more

I used to live in France, and I find it annoying how everyone only knows about Paris. Other smaller towns and cities, like Lyon and Thoiry, which is where I lived, get no appreciation. The number of amazing tourist destinations are endless. The culture is amazing, and one of my favorite thing is looking at the old castles.

5 Germany Germany was formally united in 1871 under the initiative of Bismarck with King Wilhelm of Prussia as emperor. The previous 'Holy Roman Empire', basically a continuation of the empire of Charlemagne/Karl der Grosse was dissolved in 1806.

Some territory was lost after World War 1 and a lot more after World War 2, basically started by Hitler's Nazi dictatorship. Then the Soviets kept their zone... read more

I don't regret taking German as a foreign language even though most people told me not to. They wanted me to take French or Italian, etc. 10 years later they can't say anything in their respective languages because they lost interest! I never let go of my chosen language- German because the people are so friendly! The country is beautiful! Their literature is interesting, their music is so fun, and well I love their beer too! Hehe I could go on and on but I will just say that I was immediately hooked and have continued to remain up to date with the happenings in Germany. I read their news every day! I was once worried because people at school would demotivate me but I had the last laugh it seems laugh out loud now I am fluent and I LOVE Germany

Incredibly underrated, they have one of the Top 5's economies, football teams and cultures, for Example the Oktoberfest. They are also one of the less western countries having good diplomatic relations with Iran and many other Islamic countries and at least even an embassy in North Korea. Here in Mexico, Germany is the only western country being considered as having a positive influence in the world.
They don't deserve to be connected with Hitler and all this Nazi rubbish anymore!

6 Finland Finland, officially the Republic of Finland, is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. It shares land borders with Sweden to the northwest, Norway to the north, and Russia to the east, with the Gulf of Bothnia to the west and the Gulf of Finland across Estonia to the south. Everyone compared Finland always with Sweden saying like Sweden is the best country ever when Finland is the worst country ever. What's wrong with Finland?

Finlad is nordic country that was ruled by the Swedish and Russian before gaining independence. It has beautiful landscapes from farmside to lushy forests to hills and mountains.

Finnish weapons and music bands are really great. Go check out Korpiklanni and the Suomi KP/-31. Finland sure knows how to make quality stuff. Also, the land is nice too.

7 Nepal Nepal, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a sovereign state located in South Asia.

It is home of the famous Gurkhas whose name come from a small district in Nepal called Gorkha. The name Gorkha came from the legendary Indian sage Gorakhnath who did spent later part of his life in the mountain of Gorkha. These Gorkhas later became Nepali who are known as peaceful people... read more

We are not in international news, nor our boys win any world cups and we don't have half-witted glamour industry like our two giant neighbors do and boast about. But what we have is a state full of rich natural beauty, unique culture and most prominently we are open and respect anyone and anything. We don't need hype. We know what we are and what our country is. Nepal has always been a country of free men as we have always been independent never been ruled by any foreign powers. Only if our politicians think straighthead, Nepal can be a a-list player in tourism industry.

Some kids are forced to get married and have kids young. Not all, but it does happen.

Also, none of you are providing evidence as to how it's underrated.

I'm surprised (but glad) to see that Nepal actually made it on the list. Yes, it's economically poor, but its rich culture easily makes up for it.

8 Mongolia Mongolia is a landlocked unitary sovereign state in East Asia. Its area is roughly equivalent with the historical territory of Outer Mongolia, and that term is sometimes used to refer to the current state.

I live in Mongolia. Every here gets worse after fall of USSR came many companies that wasting nature and we get noting from that. This country is just sold to few bad guys. Also the location is worst to we don't have any way out to sea and we just stuck between Russia and China and now coming bunch of mining companies that are want only our uranium, coal, gold, silver, iron, bronze and bunch of other stuff. I hope that everything will get better if we kick out our traitor politics.

Lots of countries come to our country and steal out natural resources like uranium, coal, gold, silver, iron, bronze, and bunch of other stuff. IT is not fair because we are under pressure of our neighbors, especially, China! Did you know that Chinese males steal Mongolian women to make Mongolian population fewer so they can have our land, culture and people? Chinese government is super evil!

9 Iceland Iceland is a Nordic island country in the North Atlantic Ocean and the most sparsely populated country in Europe. Iceland's capital and largest city is Reykjavík, which (along with its surrounding areas) is home to over 65% of the population. Almost every person I know that is not from Iceland says its cold, windy, dangerous.. blah blah blah! Even though its Beautiful, very clean, nice people, clean water... people judge before they get to know it!

300,000 people and defeated England. Everyone their has an unhealthy obsession with Football (Soccer) which I love.

Its very awesome country but sadly no one no what Iceland is.

10 Namibia Namibia, officially the Republic of Namibia, is a country in southern Africa whose western border is the Atlantic Ocean. Its capital city is Windhoek. It shares borders with Angola to the north, South Africa to the south and Botswana to the east.

The German colonial architecture in this country is absolutely admirable, especially in the city of Swakopmund.

Extremely beautiful country with so few people living there.

The Contenders
11 Japan Japan is an island country in East Asia in the Pacific Ocean. It lies off the eastern coast of the Asia Mainland (east of China, Korea, Russia) and stretching from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea and near Taiwan in the southwest.

Everybody hates Japan and Germany just because of what they did in World War II. Dude! World War II was like 80 years ago. Why are you all hating on Japan just because of that? You should be hating the soldiers, not the country! And also, the soldiers are dead now, so forget everything about that.

Japan is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. So instead of hating it because of a stupid war, just look inside the country to see what it's like now!

Japan has to be the most hated and liked countries in the world (hated by the rich countries, liked by the poor countries). The only thing to hate about Japan is the stupid republic made after World War 2, who hides the good facts that Japan did and make up fake stories about the Japanese cruelty. Also, the republic can't think about good decision and do screwed up ideas. A humiliation to the people who died bravely in war and intelligent people who tried to change and protect the country. Other than that, there isn't much things to hate about Japan. I mean really.

12 Botswana Botswana, officially the Republic of Botswana, is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. Botswana is topographically flat, with up to 70 percent of its territory being the Kalahari Desert. It is bordered by South Africa to the south and southeast, Namibia to the west and north, and Zimbabwe to the northeast. It is connected to Zambia across the short Zambezi River border by the Kazungula Bridge.

Probably the wealthiest country in all of Africa, and also amongst the least corrupt in the entire world.

13 Denmark Denmark is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. It is the most populous and politically central constituent of the Kingdom of Denmark, a constitutionally unitary state that includes the autonomous territories of the Faroe Islands and Greenland in the North Atlantic Ocean. European Denmark is the southernmost of the Scandinavian countries, lying southwest of Sweden, south of Norway, and north of Germany... read more

Finland is the only Nordic Country to adopt democratic government. The others all have monarchies, Denmark included. HOwever, Dennmark is still a wonderful place to visit, and the Thatcher Dynansty still has a lot of power in politics, but we still have a lot of freedom. Not sure about Lese Majeste Laws though, as those are very strictly applied, though not really enforced much anymore, and criticizing the government in certaina areas/ways, petty insults towards the queen for insntance, might get you in all kinds of trouble.

People always laugh and care about each other.
Best country I have vistited so far.

The best nordic country

14 South Korea South Korea, officially the Republic of Korea (ROK), is a country in East Asia, constituting the southern part of the Korean Peninsula and sharing a land border with North Korea. Its western border is formed by the Yellow Sea, while its eastern border is defined by the Sea of Japan. South Korea claims to be the sole legitimate government of the entire peninsula and adjacent islands. It has a population... read more

As a person who lives in America, I could see how American people do not really know about South Korea. People think it's just middle country or poor country even though South Korea is actually one of the most developed country. Also SK has great history and attractions, Americans don't know them and just say SK is just not so good version of Japan and China. I'm not sure it is same in other western countries or asian countries, but I can say SK is so underrated in America.

I hate the people who say "ooh, SK's the not-so-good version of China and Japan", where it's equally brilliant! I don't see why people miss it out like this. It's also got nothing to do with the North, so, by that logic, South Korea deserves a lot more recognition!

Definitely underrated. Why?
1.Foods and toothbrushes are already there for you in hotel, and great service.
2.Samsung
3.8th richest and 9th strongest military
Really UNDERRATED

15 Madagascar

Ukraine is now starting to get international attention for the wrong reason thanks to the Russia-Ukraine war.

I feel sorry for them.

Ukraine is the largest country that's entirely in Europe. Which means there's a lot more to Ukraine than just Chernobyl

17 Sweden Sweden, officially the Kingdom of Sweden, is a Scandinavian country in Northern Europe. It borders Norway to the west and Finland to the east, and is connected to Denmark in the southwest by a bridge-tunnel across the Öresund. At 450,295 square kilometers (173,860 sq mi), Sweden is the third-largest country in the European Union by area, with a total population of 10 million.

I like to call this place "Laos" because they are both Communist '? :/holes but unlike Laos, Sweden tolerated Migrants Raping Women and At least the Laotian Government is Nationalistic, Swedish Government is ok with watching their country be destroyed. Soon enough same it will be annexed by Somalia because Sweden and Somalia are like brothers. Germany is also terrible because Merkel is a genocidal Dictator

Sweden is one of the most overrated countries in the world. A horrid country that people believe is better than Norway. Excuse me, Norway is way richer and safer than Sweden. Even Norwegians are nicer than Swedes.

Doesn't everyone know about Sweden though?

18 Portugal Portugal (est.1152), officially the Portuguese Republic, is a country located mostly on the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe. It is the westernmost country of mainland Europe, bordered to the west and south by the Atlantic Ocean and to the north and east by Spain. Its territory also includes the Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira, both autonomous regions with their own regional... read more

Highly over looked. Often thought of as a vassle of Spain. A country that is over a thousand years old with a ton of history and some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. Some of the greatest sea food you will ever eat and home of one of the only good dictators. (he is dead)

Portugal is an idependant country and it's older than Spain. The only reason why Portugal doesn't shine much today, is because he's seen as Spain's younger brother, which is not true.

Cabo the Roca - place where land ends and sea begins.
Sintra - simply a pearl. So many objects are located in this small city.
Fantastic food.
Not so many tourists and that's good.

19 Mexico Mexico, officially the United Mexican States, is a federal republic located in North America. The country is located between the U.S. and Central America, and is known for its Pacific and Gulf of Mexico beaches and its diverse landscape of mountains, deserts, and jungles.

Correction: Mexico is not the most hated country around the americas, is the most envied country, South and central American envy Mexico because is more famous than their countries and have more culture and US people hates Mexico because they are ignorant.

Mexicans are the most hated people around Americas (That includes South America) due to the huge percentage of people with poor behavior, ethics, and attitude.

My homecountry, often being considered as underrated like Germany, people often connect Mexico to the Drug Wars at the border to the USA. But we're more than that! We are one of the strongest latinoamerican counry!

20 Hungary Hungary is a sovereign state in Europe. It is situated in the Carpathian Basin and is bordered by Slovakia to the north, Romania to the east, Serbia to the south, Croatia to the southwest, Slovenia to the west, Austria to the northwest, and Ukraine to the northeast.

It used to be one of the biggest countries in Europe. Unfortuanely it has greatly reduced in size

21 Lebanon Lebanon was established in 1920 and gained its independence in 1943. For a couple of years it has lacked a president; yet, on October 31st, 2016, it got president Michel Aoun. Lebanon is situated in the middle of the fertile crescent on the eastern Mediterranean sea overlooking Europe, North Africa and Asia. It can also be seen as the center of the world by holding Asia and Africa and Europe together... read more

Used to be in the shadow of Turkey and Israel, now being in the shadow of Syria. Lovely people and a nice culture. They did a good job becoming independent from imperial France and Great Britain.

Rich history, culture and traditions with a lot of touristic sites and very nice people overall.

Rich history and culture

22 Cambodia Cambodia is a Southeast Asian nation whose landscape spans low-lying plains, the Mekong Delta, mountains and Gulf of Thailand coastline. Its busy capital, Phnom Penh, is home to the art deco Central Market, glittering Royal Palace and the National Museum's historical and archaeological exhibits. In the country's northwest lie ruins of Angkor Wat, a massive stone temple complex built during the Khmer Empire.

Cambodia is a beautiful and breath taking place not to mention its vast history and spiritual significance! However I had heard almost no mention of it for the majority of my life

23 Micronesia

Beautiful country, so much to do, the nicest people, lots of history

24 Burkina Faso Burkina Faso is a landlocked country located in West Africa, bordered by Mali, Niger, Benin, Togo, Ghana, and Côte d'Ivoire. The capital and largest city is Ouagadougou. The country is known for its rich cultural heritage, which includes a vibrant music scene and traditional crafts. It has a primarily agrarian economy, with agriculture providing employment for a large portion of the population.

How are France and Germany in the top five? It makes no sense. A lot of these countries are very known. Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Nepal, Mexico, Finland, China and South Korea are all very known. Among the most known. Meanwhile actually underrated countries like Kyrgyzstan, Tajikitan, Burkino Faso and Zambia are very low down, but are way more underrated. Burkino Faso in particular holds some amazing history and culture that is worth checking out

It's got literal African cowboys for crying out loud!

Nobody even knows where it is.

25 Spain Spain, or the Kingdom of Spain, is a country in southwestern Europe with parts of territory in the Atlantic Ocean and across the Mediterranean Sea. The largest part of Spain is situated on the Iberian Peninsula; its territory also includes the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea, the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, and several minor overseas territories also scattered along the Moroccan coast of the Alboran Sea. The country's mainland is bordered to the south by Gibraltar; to the south and east by the Mediterranean Sea; to the north by France, Andorra and the Bay of Biscay; and to the west by Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean.

Why it's not in that list, that's a proof of its underrating.

Spain is not underrated
