42 Rory Gallagher Rory Gallagher William Rory Gallagher was an Irish blues and rock multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and bandleader.

Feeling and phrasing, seriously guys, listen to Rory Gallagher for the most amazing soulful playing of a strat that you will ever hear.
He opens your ears, mind and soul with every note.
The guitarist from Doctor Velvet band in Perth comes close but that's about it!

Honestly seeing Rory this low on a list hurts... He was so much better than people gave him credit for, in my opinion he was so much better than people like Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton or even jimi Hendrix because of the way he brought the guitar into his own soul.

There is only three others guitarists that are as good as Rory. Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman and Robin Trower.

In my opinion he's truly one of the best.Unfortunately he's so underrated and I don't understand why.His songs are amazing and his guitar solos are fantastic.

43 Buddy Guy Buddy Guy George "Buddy" Guy is an American blues guitarist and singer. He is an exponent of Chicago blues and has influenced guitarists including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Jeff Beck, John Mayer and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

One of the last 2 great Black Blues Guitarists, (the other being BB King), alive today. And in my opinion - better than BB King. A powerhouse of Blues. Totally underrated.

44 Bonnie Raitt Bonnie Raitt
45 Steve Cropper Steve Cropper
46 Joe Duplantier Joe Duplantier Joseph Duplantier is a French musician best known as the guitarist and vocalist of metal band Gojira.
47 Dan Donegan Dan Donegan Dan Donegan is an American musician and guitarist for heavy metal band Disturbed. Donegan began playing guitar as a teenager and eventually formed a band called Vandal, which was an 1980s-style hair band.

So David Mustain is underrated, but Dan Donegan isn't?
I don't understand the people, what is wrong wit you?

48 Zakk Wylde Zakk Wylde Zakk Wylde is an American musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and occasional actor who is best known as the former guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, and founder of the heavy metal band Black Label Society.

Zakk Wylde farewell solo - symonC1

Zakk can shred and ripp the guitar apart...

49 Yngwie Malmsteen Yngwie Malmsteen Yngwie Johan Malmsteen is a Swedish guitarist, songwriter and bandleader who was born on June 30th, 1963, in Stockholm, Sweden. He was known for his neoclassical metal playing style back in the 1980s.

Neo-classical guitarists are underrated as a whole, as "greatest guitarist" lists are always dominated by blues-based players. As neo-classical players go, Yngwie is among the best of them, and it was Yngwie who really turned neo-classical metal into a genre in it's own right, taking the classically influenced rock of Ritchie Blackmore and Uli Jon Roth onto the next level. If you don't play guitar, you most likely haven't heard of Malmsteen. If you do play guitar and you haven't, you most likely aren't very good.

50 George Thorogood

Only guy, who knows exactly, how to play in delta blues style and bring it to the modern world.

I can listen to him and the Destroyers forever. He never falters.

I've been listening to this band since '77. Loved then then & love them now. George T is fantastic on the slide. He doesn't disappoint!

51 Dave Navarro Dave Navarro David Michael "Dave" Navarro is an American guitarist, singer-songwriter, and actor. He is best known as a former member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and as a founding member of the alternative rock band Jane's Addiction.
52 George Lynch George Lynch George Lynch is an American hard rock guitarist and songwriter. Lynch is best known for his work with heavy metal band Dokken and his band Lynch Mob.

Seen Dokken live and George Lynch was on fire note for note also was at a guitar clinic that George Lynch put on very Talented. George knows his music theory like the back of his hand. Very Smart man great person to talk to.

Like Marty Friedman, George is one of the most technically sound and influentual talents behind the axe.

Mr. Scary- 'enough said.

53 George Harrison George Harrison George Harrison was an English guitarist, singer, songwriter, and music and film producer who achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of the Beatles.

The many different sounds that he could master with a flip of a switch from his guitar was one reason that the Beatles had a tight sound. Maybe I'm showing my age,but I still love his guitar work on "I feel Fine".

54 Jason Becker Jason Becker Jason Eli Becker (born July 22, 1969) is an American neoclassical metal guitarist and composer. At the age of 16, he became part of the Shrapnel Records-produced duo Cacophony with his friend Marty Friedman. They released the albums Speed Metal Symphony in 1987 and Go Off! in 1988. JASON BECKER IS THE MOST UNDERRATED GUITARIST EVER. TECHNICALLY THE BEST GUITARIST ON PLANET EARTH. "THE PERSON WHO MADE SWEEP PICKING FAMOUS". Please LISTEN TO "SERRANA", HE IS AN AMAZING MUSICIAN...

The best guitarist by far on this list! Only for a short time sadly...

55 Vinnie Moore
56 Johnny Ramone Johnny Ramone John William Cummings, better known by his stage name Johnny Ramone, was an American guitarist and songwriter, best known for being the guitarist for the punk rock band the Ramones.

Considering all the attention other guitarists get, Johnny has never truly been recognized as one of the "greats" even though he was very influential.

Should at least be in the top ten. Also, Elliot Smith and Neil Young should be much higher. - Alpha101

57 Wes Montgomery Wes Montgomery

Ah Don Felder...tone, phrasing, articulation...he's is such an aesthetic player.

60 Mark Knopfler Mark Knopfler Mark Freuder Knopfler is a British singer, songwriter, guitarist, record producer and film score composer.

Too well respected to make most "underrated" lists, but still fails to rank anywhere near as high as he should on the mainstream lists. Amazing guitarist.

He is super underrated, you have got to be kidding me. Sultans of Swing people, come on

He's underrated even on this list... Should be in the top 10.

He is so underrated... Even on this list! His work with dire straits is amazing. come on...
