61 Budgie

I felt like they got an uncredited role in the progression of rock/metal in the 70's. Basically if there was no Rush then everyone would know Budgie - Johnnyt800

Very underrated and an unknown...Check out "Breadfan" Metallica does a cover of this but can't compete with Budgie. One of my top loves

Exceptional Band. One of the founders of NWOBHM. Some bands like Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Metallica, Judas Priest covered their songs.

64 Alter Bridge Alter Bridge Alter Bridge is an American rock band from Orlando, Florida, formed in 2004. The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Myles Kennedy, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips.

In my opinion, the best rock band in the last 10 years, and sadly, one of the most underrated. They have so much variety and a lot of their songs are just beautiful and badass. Myles Kennedy's great voice and Mark Tremonti's awesome guitar solos worth it.

One of the most underrated rock bands with extremely good music

65 Misfits Misfits Misfits are an American Horror Punk band often recognized as the progenitors of the horror punk subgenre, blending punk rock and other musical influences with horror film themes and imagery.

Come on guys, they are iconic and their music is cool! How are they so low? The practically originated horror punk.

66 Rhapsody of Fire Rhapsody of Fire

I know that rhapsody of fire is metal, not rock, but there are so many bands hear that are not rock that this list is more rock and metal. Rhapsody of fire is amazing, but nobody listens to them. Their songs are so complex and the lyrics are actually good. They are a million times better than Metallica's more recent albums.

67 Nine Inch Nails Nine Inch Nails Nine Inch Nails is an American industrial rock/metal band and, founded in 1988 by Trent Reznor in Cleveland, Ohio.

They deserve more credit than what they've got. They make some of the best music you'll ever hear.

They're pretty underrated on TheTopTens.

They are so original, why are they this low?

73 Genesis Genesis Genesis are an English rock band formed at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey in 1967. The most commercially successful and long-lasting line-up includes keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford and drummer/singer Phil Collins.

The fact that Genesis is so low on this list proves that society is a complete failure. They are the greatest band ever... no other band can sound like them. Ever.

They are simply the most talented people to ever exist. An immensely brilliant band who made piles of breathtaking songs.

The 70's Genesis produced some of the most amazing music out there. Their guitarist Steve Hackett innovated two hand tapping and sweep picking (Not Eddie Van Halen or Malmsteen). Tony Banks is one of the most original and tasteful keyboardists out there, same with Phil Collins as a drummer. Mike Rutherford had some great bass lines and Peter Gabriel is a great singer with a unique voice. Together, they produced at least 7 amazing progressive rock albums. Yet they're not as famous as some of the "poser" rock bands out there (that's how I describe bands like AC/DC, Van Halen, Kiss...). - RalphSaad

No. 86? WHAT. How. It's insane that they are this underrated!

76 Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are an American rock band from Gainesville, Florida. In 1976, the band's original lineup was Tom Petty as the lead singer and guitar player, Mike Campbell as the lead guitarist, Ron Blair on bass, Stan Lynch on drums, and Benmont Tench on keyboards.

Probably not deserving of the number 1 spot, but at 75? Seriously? They have several great deep cuts that are just as good as, sometimes exceeding, their hits. They have been around for almost 4 decades and are very consistent, putting out new material every few years instead of cramming so much in 1 decade then going on a huge hiatus with few new material afterwards, and while their highs aren't quite as good as the likes of Pink Floyd or other artists, their lows aren't even remotely close to being as bad. If you're not convinced, check out Tom Petty's Buried Treasure on SiriusXM. It has everything from hits, to deep cuts, to cover songs, and other artists from Tom's personal record collection, both live and studio, old and new. Good stuff.

Tom Petty and the heartbreakers are my favorite band of all time. They are so underrated because their music is unique and just classic. His music is untimely and I will listen to him until the day I die.

No disrespect to anyone on this list but these guys are total stand out. Listen to them live, they can cover anything as well as playing variations of their own classics. As the man says " just a hard working rock and roll band.

77 Chevelle Chevelle Chevelle is an American rock band that formed in 1995 in the Chicago suburb of Grayslake, Illinois. The band was originally composed of brothers: Pete Loeffler, Sam Loeffler and Joe Loeffler.

Definitely one of the best bands producing music write now. Their sound is truly amazing for three members. Pete's voice tops 95% of all other metal and Hard Rock bands.

You Rock chevelle, I have everyone of your songs. My favorites are Saturdays, The Clincher, don't Fake this, and Glimpse of a Con.

Chevelle is a fantastic band that every hard rock and alternative metal fan should listen.

Letter from a theif, Jars, The Fad, etc. Best rock band of our generation in my honest opinion

A letter, Saferwaters, And Jars are some of the greatest songs I've ever heard so far. Dispite their newest album, 'La Gargola' not being as great as their previous ones in my opinion, CheVelle is band that will never get old.

This band is so underrated that it is raked 101 in a underrated rock band list... Come on they were a big influence for Clapton, Pink Floyd and even The Beatles. Great songwriting, three excellent singers, one of the most laid back rhythm section. They toured with Dylan and their first two albums are masterpieces constantly praised by other artists.

Some of the smartest music that inspired greats like Eric Clapton and others. Amazing and underrated roots rock
