Best Movie Sequels of All Time (Excluding Second Installments)

Today on 14th December 2018 Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was released, there has been tons of different Spider--Man movies. There was a trilogy before the 2000s was made, then the Sam Raimi trilogy which debuted in the early 2000s, Marc Webb's duology of "The Amazing Spider-Man" movies which were probably the most hated of the bunch, then in 2017 and since the Marvel Cinematic Universe has began making Spider-Man movies, and now another Spider-Man movie was released, but different finally, as it was about the succesor of Peter Parker known as Miles Morales, and it's animated, and made by Sony, so no sequel was it, but speaking of sequels, let's made a list of the best movies of all time, excluding first and second installments, basically just about movie sequels that aren't the second installments. Many movies recieve one sequel, but less recieve a third installment, so we're going to look at movie sequels that aren't second installments, as well we're not going to look at first installments. Without further ado, let's start!
The Top Ten
1 Return of the Jedi

Yes, I think this movie was also better than "The Empire Strikes Back". Why? Simple. More epic and much better climax! The battle for Endor and Luke vs. Vader fight, enough said! Compared to the lightsaber duel in "The Empire Strikes Back" which was a bit dull and empty, this movie's duel is epic at best! Now sure, Hoth and Bespin were better settings than the Endor moon, but the moon was awesomne as well! Also the ewoks are so cute!

2 The Dark Knight Rises
3 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
4 Avengers: Infinity War

Avenger's: Infinity War is not only my favourite movie not including first and second installments, it's also my favourite movie in general of all time! Just after the first few minutes you know you're in for a mastepiece! It shows the wrath and intimidation of Thanos and how scary and powerful he truly is and the action scenes were brutal yet excellent! Now I will admit that the jokes were terrible and were way out of place, and I don't like how Ant-Man and Hawkeye are absent from this movie, oh well maybe we'll get to know it in the next Avenger's movie. Spider-Man also manages to make a "What are those? " joke in the movie is quite hard to find but I found it during my first watch. Doctor Strange was one of the best in this movie as he managed to find a bout a million different outcomes, and they only won in one! The fact that Thanos even wins in this movie makes him even more scary and intimidating

Probably one of my top 5 MCU movies:

1. The Avengers (2012)
2. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
3. Guardians of the Galaxy/Guardians 2 (Tie) (2014/2017)
4. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
5. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

5 Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

Hands down the best Star Wars movie ever! Now while I will agree that The Empire Strikes Back is quite awesomne too, I feel like people only worship that movie because of that one line! I actually loved that movie because of the settings and not because of emotions and twists. This movie however knocks Empire Strikes Back on the lower ground and looked like a joke after this movie was released. This movie is the most fast-paced and action filled of all six movies (I don't recognize the Disney movies as true Star Wars movies and even then this movie is more action-packed than those two), and unlike The Last Jedi which was probably the second most action-packed movie, this one also makes sense and is super emotional unlike The Last Jedi! The Obi-Wan vs. Anakin Skywalker fight is hands down the best in the entire franchise as it's emotional yet epic! We are also greeted with one of the most awesomne looking characters in the franchise: General Grievous! There's just nothing bad about ...more

6 Skyfall
7 Toy Story 3
8 Despicable Me 3

Yeah, so if you know me you know how much if a fan I am of Despicable Me 3, and by that I mean I abseolutely adore this movie! It was not only my most anticipated animated movie (and movie overall) of 2017, it lived up to all expectations! Many people hate it, but I loved it. Why? Well most of it is because of the story and villian! The story is about Gru, now a member of the Anti-Villian League who has a new nemesis known as Balthazar Bratt who is about to steal the world's largest diamond, unfortuanely Gru fails as well as his wife Lucy and they are fired, later they got to know by a man called Fritz the Gru has a twin brother called Dru who needs help, and yes, Gru goes to Freedonia, where Dru lives and they plan on stealing the diamond togheter. I just loved it, the villian is the best part of the movie! He has an actual backstory and great motivations and he truly has a reason to why he is doing what he is doing! Also, Dru, Gru's twin brother is also quite good, while he can get ...more

9 Spider-Man 3

The Spider-Man trilogy that was directed by Sam Raimi is hands down one of the best collections of movies! I found every movie in the trilogy to be a solid masterpiece and all are in my top ten best movies of all time. Strangely though, the movie that many people didn't like in the trilogy was actually my favourite in the whole trilogy. Now this movie has some minor flaws, I mean Venom was a bit rushed I will admit but that's the only minor flaw, and it wasn't even that bad, he was the best villian in the movie due to how epic he was. Sandman, the main antagonist was also such an amazing villian as he isn't really a villian, just very misunderstood. And Harry, now he is the definition of a masterpiece villian! Motivations and character development is beyond perfect! This is also the darkest movie of the trilogy as well as the edgiest. I also didn't have a problem with the dance scene, I found it really hilarious if I do say so myself

10 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

So of you know me you know how muh I love the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise! While the first two are the only ones in my top ten, the third one is a close third on my ranking. While yes, it was quite confusing and and dragged on for too long, I gotta admit Sparrow was among the best in this movie (excluding Dead Men Tell No Tales). Davy Jones also was way better in this movie than in Dead Man's Chest, there's just still so much to love about this movie

Some people don't like this movie. However, I liked this movie, because of the complexity of the plot and how many things were going on at the same time. Each character has different motivations, and it all seems real. I loved the visual effects and the places they go in the movie.

The Contenders
11 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Definitely deserves to be in the top 10. Awesome action sequences, great quotes, great actors/actresses and downright awesome storytelling.

How the hell has this not been mentioned yet

12 Shrek The Third

Long story short, Shrek The Third is my favourite Shrek movie. Yes I know people hate this one the most but you know, I am "le unpopular" so you'll have to deal with it. It's the second darkest and most depressing movie in the franchise behind the fourth installment Shrek Forever After. Unlike that one though, this movie had somewhat of a darker athmosphere and an actual death scene (ok the fourth one had one as well but it wasn't nearly as dramatic). Sure humour is dissapointing and the whole princess squad thing was cringe, but apart from those two minor flaws this is another masterpiece to be fair

Shrek 2 was better. Shrek Forever After was awful.

13 Kung Fu Panda 3

Kung Fu Panda 3, yes you know what I'm going to say, the best movie of the trilogy! The first one was just so awesomne and the sequel was just as good if not maybe slightly worse I guess. Kung Fu Panda 3 is easly the best of the trilogy though. Now sure, it might look a lot more childish than its predecessors, but once you look deeper into it youll notice how much darker it is. Sure, Kung Fu Panda 2 still holds the trophy of the darkest of the franchise, but I'd say this one's darker than the original, a lot! Kai, a spirit warrior who has escaped the spirit world, is out and seeking on stealing the power chi from everyone, by that we will make everyone his underling, possesed. Now that's sounds dark if you ask me

Can you please talk more about the movie itself other than it being dark? That doesn't make it good automatically. I don't mind the comparing to the original bit though.

14 Thor: Ragnarok

Many people here know how much I loved this movie back in 2017. Well, opinions change, I still love it but I've ben able to study some flaws here and there, like the overuse of jokes that were unfunny and my over-exaggeration on my movie review. However this movie still has tons of awesomne things! I still think Cate Blanchett is the best actress of all time due to her magnificant performance as Hela in this movie, as well as the hilarious Korg (or should I call him Basket? Did anyone get that joke? ) which while made jokes that felt out of place a times, was still hilarious and his behaviour was laughable in a good way. Yeah, I still love this movie

Best Thor sequel ever. Way better than the first two Thor movies.

15 Logan
16 Scooby-Doo! Camp Scare
17 Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Many people hated this movie in the series the most. I think it's a masterpiece, and yes, while only the fourth best, it's still a masterpiece. That's not saying much though as I find this whole series to be a masterpiece. This is pretty much the first movie in the series that actually focused on Jack Sparrow and not Will Turner and I like how Sparrow finally gets to steal the whole show and not just two thirds of it. Although the plot is a bit generic as they are going to find the fountain of youth with is basically the pirates version of the holy grail, the rest of the plot is very interesting. I also liked Blackbeard a lot as he was quite awesomne, I did find his death scene way too brutal though. I still love it

Pirates of the Caribbean went down hill after the first movie and the second was at least action packed to covers its flaws

For me, this was the worst movie in the series.

18 Undisputed III: Redemption

One of the best Martial Arts Franchises to come around in a while

19 Mission: Impossible - Fallout

All the Mission: Impossible movies are literally the same.

20 Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb
21 The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

One of the greatest movies ever made. Most people don't know it's a sequel, it's the third installment after A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More, which are also great.

22 Men in Black 3
23 Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Isn't this technically the second installment of a new trilogy and wouldn't work on this list

24 Cars 3
25 Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted
