Top Ten Movies of 2012 with the Best Special Effects

This list compiles the movies released in 2012 that showed the movie industry how it's done in terms of special effects work.
The Top Ten
1 Marvel's The Avengers

Not even a contest

2 Life of Pi

Of course, the film won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. I saw this in 3-D when it was in theaters and it was the most amazing 3-D experience I had had since 2009's 'Avatar'. It's a must-see 3-D experience.

This was a really good movie.

3 Prometheus

This film was a middling affair from Ridley Scott for most people (I love the 'Alien' series with a whole heart so I made myself love this movie), but, again, one cannot fault this film's special effects.

4 The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The two sequels that followed this film, somehow, felt a bit saturated when it came to the CGI, but this one was two and a half hours of Tolkien-flavored bliss for me.

5 Cloud Atlas

The film polarized critics and audiences (I loved it, by the way). One of the things that no one could genuinely criticize the film for is its special effects. There are so many moments that will fill you with wonder, it's incredible.

6 Men in Black 3

The effects are glossy and wacky but they're exactly what you'd want from this franchise.

7 The Hunger Games

If the domed arena wasn't deadly and terrifying, I'd wish for it to be real.

8 Wrath of the Titans

A crappy movie by most standards, but a spectacle for the eyes if there ever was one.

9 The Amazing Spider-Man

I wasn't a fan of the suit design or the Lizard's appearance but I cannot deny that they looked real enough on-screen.

10 Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
The Contenders
11 The Dark Knight Rises
12 Snow White and the Huntsman

I have not seen this film but, since it was nominated at the Oscars for its special effects, I felt a compelling urge to include it.

13 The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2
