Top 10 Best Movies of 2020

The Top Ten
1 Sonic the Hedgehog

This movie is so good. First off, we got a redesign, which proves the people wanted this movie to be really good. Next, the characters and plot are likable. I thought the humans would be confusing, but they actually seem right in this movie after we learned about them. I also like the many references in this movie that Sonic fans will enjoy, but the references don't distract you from the movie. The message is also cool. This and Detective Pikachu proved live-action game movies can be good. I also like how we see Tails at the end, which means we will most likely get a sequel, especially because Tails was looking for Sonic. All in all, S tier movie. Not only the best movie of 2020 but the best movie EVER MADE! - MarioMaster101 (I forgot my information so I just wrote my profile name)

I think this is a good movie. Sure, the story is generic and the acting is just okay, but I think it is great visually and I was laughing a lot watching this movie. They made a lot of good jokes out of Sonic's speed, and Jim Carrey's performance as Eggman was just amazing. Also, I love how the crazy guy's drawing of Sonic looks like Sanic. That's just awesome. Sure, there were a few problems, but this is better than most video game movies out there, and it's great that they fixed Sonic's original design because the movie might have done worse if they hadn't fixed it. It cost a delay for the movie, but it was worth it in my opinion. Overall, I recommend it.

2 Soul

Soul is by far the best film of 2020. I think this movie also really helped restore people's faith in Pixar for making actual good movies with great stories. Lots of the newer Pixar films aren't that good, especially the Cars franchise. The movies that kept Pixar afloat during that time were Toy Story 3 (maybe 4), Coco, Inside Out, and this movie. I would say Soul is one of the best animated films Pixar has made and one of the best of all time.

Probably one of the most well-made films of all time, on the level of Studio Ghibli. It has a far deeper message than any Pixar film, let alone an American film. I expected it to be a low-key Inside Out rehash, but it came with far more twists than I imagined. Definitely one of the best Pixar movies. It's a shame it won't get much recognition due to not having been released to theaters, but either way, it's a masterpiece.

It was very funny, but very...what's the word...soulful. It was a little bit scary too. The whole time I was watching, I was thinking, 'What if that happens to me?' So, a bit scary too.

3 Onward

Has got to be one of the most underrated Pixar movies of recent times. Yeah sure, it isn't as iconic as, say, Coco or Toy Story, but it's still a really emotional and deep film which Pixar really poured their heart and soul into. If I had a complaint about it, I guess there was a little... too much action? For this type of movie, I felt the constant twists were a little too much and took away some of the enjoyment, but I still loved the film. One of Pixar's best, honestly.

This movie was pretty good. It was funny how it flopped in the theaters and went straight to Disney+. The only thing I found disappointing was that the whole movie, the main characters were trying to bring their dad back to life. Although at the end of the movie, only one of the main characters saw the dad. We didn't even really get to see him. So I was kind of sad that we barely get to see the dad for 5 minutes. Besides that, this movie was actually great.

4 The Invisible Man

Suspense done right. The Invisible Man is a scary, tense, and anxiety-inducing film that will keep you invested from start to finish, and it's often scarier than what you can see. Elizabeth Moss gives us a realistic performance that shreds emotion throughout.

This movie is well worth a watch, even if you don't like horror movies.

Surprisingly haunting and well directed. Leigh Whannell is two for two with me, with Upgrade being one of my favourites from recent memory. So, I guess go watch Upgrade if you're reading this.

5 Scoob!

I love Scooby-Doo. I love all the monsters and mysteries, practically all the movies, but they have started to go overboard. You can't blame me. Think about it. They have about three whole different episode series of just this. Then, they came out with this movie! They added characters for more entertainment, but that just made it worse. And there were practically no monsters in it whatsoever.

And I know it's supposed to be about their before life when they first got together and things like that, but I mean, if they wanted to do this, they should have done it at the beginning of all the other Scooby Doo movies. It's way too late now, and they screwed it up. The main and overall issue is that all of the other Scooby-Doo movies have one thing in common: it has monsters. In this one, it's just about how Velma, Shaggy, Daphne, Fred, and Scooby all got together. There are no monsters in the movie when literally the Scooby-Doo purpose is to be about monsters. If they had clue solving and monsters in the movie, it would be a lot more popular than it is today.

6 Bad Boys for Life

A beautiful twist on the series, with a more dark dramatic storyline while still keeping the lighthearted comedy of the first two.

This movie felt strange to me because I had never watched the previous two, but it was fun regardless. I guess I'll vote for it too.

7 Dolittle
8 Tenet

Wow. Even though I waited to see Tenet on an IMAX movie theater after the Covid-19 lockdowns, it looked terrific. Great job for Christopher Nolan!

I first saw Tenet on streaming and then in a movie theater. No kidding.

No one is voting for this movie just because it is made by Christopher Nolan. It is a great film, not his best or without flaws, but it is still great. Those who hate it don't understand it. Those who understand it watched it more than once. It is that kind of movie because it is very high-paced with a very complex plot and a high concept of reversal of time, and very dense dialogue with lots of big words you probably won't understand until you take out the dictionary. This film is multilayered like an onion, with many things going on that are never explained. You have to watch this movie with subtitles and pay attention to everything on screen, or you will be completely lost.

9 Impractical Jokers: The Movie

I watched it, and it mostly feels like a really long episode. It's like 30% movie, 70% indistinguishable from a normal episode.

It's Impractical Jokers. It's great.

10 Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn

I honestly can't think of any other person besides Margot Robbie who can play Harley to such a tee. Even though I think the story in this film is extremely flawed, you gotta admit, it was fun to watch.

Way better than Sonic and Onward! Amazing action, soundtrack, story, and acting.

Fantastic, funny, and heartwarming film!

The Contenders
11 The Gentlemen

This film should be number 1! It's hilarious, and the cast is great. Definitely better than Sonic and all the other movies above this masterpiece.

Amazing movie, full of tension, comedy, and an overall solid story.

12 Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge
13 The Grudge
14 Mulan

Mulan is my favorite Disney "princess" because she shows that women can be stronger than men, and I really love that. Even though this movie starts off racist, I love the filming and the new characters they put into it. But they sort of screwed it up without Mushu, the dragon. It's not as good as the first one, though. I loved the witch and I LOVED how the Huns could walk on walls - that was some serious and epic filming. I think this movie should be at least 10. My favorite part of the movie is all of it. This movie proves that women can be stronger than men.

Underrated for sure.

"Lazy cash grab that 'dishonors' the original film and even its straight to video sequel" - Well, it's not supposed to be a remake of the animated film, but rather a different telling of the story that's closer to the original poem.

People only hate this because of nostalgia bias towards the 1998 film. It's really not that bad if you realize it's not supposed to be a direct remake of the 1998 movie and closer to the original ballad.

15 The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Sponge on the Run

Another great SpongeBob movie where I laughed to tears! Very entertaining and full of humour. An absolute recommendation for every SpongeBob fan!

This film was brilliant as well! For me, only Sonic The Hedgehog betters this film!

Not as good as the first two films, but it's still very fun to watch.

16 The Call of the Wild

Great movie based on a great book. Great CGI dog and storyline! What more could a moviegoer want?

I went to see this with my friend, and this movie gave us all the feels!

This was like the only good movie of 2020. Harrison Ford, awesome CGI dog!

17 Hamilton

Amazing musical! Please don't pull this. Like Lin-Manuel Miranda said, "It's the story of America then, told by America now." Every single moment of this was stunning.

I LOVED the plot and casting for this movie! Each character has their own personality. It was overall an amazing movie.

I personally don't count this as a movie, but if I would, it would definitely be my favorite movie of the year so far.

18 The Trial of the Chicago 7
19 Bloodshot

This movie was awesome regardless of what any hater says. I'm looking forward to a sequel. Make it happen, Sony!

20 Justice League Dark: Apokolips War

An American direct-to-video adult animated science fantasy superhero film produced by Warner Bros. Animation and distributed by Warner Home Video.

21 Wonder Woman 1984

Such a great movie! Emotional, action-packed, deep, surprising, tear-jerking, and... wonderful!

22 Bill & Ted Face the Music
23 Trolls World Tour

I haven't been a big fan of Trolls. The first one gave me goosebumps because the goblins were very ugly. This new movie was much better than the first one, but it's definitely not a 5 star. Maybe a 3 and a half or something, but it was much better than the first and the music made it better.

Awesome, my family and I were all waiting for #2 and the movie did not disappoint!

I was so happy when they announced this! I really like the diversity in terms of music genres especially the trolls of rock, funk/hip-hop, techno, and PRACTICALLY EVERYONE.

24 Wolfwalkers

I honestly think this movie deserves to be higher on the list. Cartoon Saloon's movies are always stunning and enticing. This movie was possibly one of their best. From the incredible animation methods, to the story, to the art itself, this movie has become an easy favorite for me.

You could pause this movie at almost any moment, and get something poster-worthy and beautiful. It even had some fun little Easter eggs from the studio's past movies: Song of the Sea, and Secret of Kells. I 100% recommend this movie for any lover of animation.

This movie should be #1. So many people just have not watched it, and I find that very sad. This movie is absolutely beautiful.
