Movies That Should Not Be Rated G Or PGBack then, there was no PG-13 rating system until in 1984 with the release of Red Dawn. But these films surprising didn’t receive re-ratings. Here are ten movies that should not be rated G or PG. Also, you can remix this list, and add stuff to the list if you want.
The Top Ten
Honestly most of these wouldn't be in an issue if the PG rating actually meant something. Problem is now what should be G movies are being rated PG, and therefore all PG movies are rated PG-13. Poltergeist and other movies being rated PG wouldn't be as big of an issue if it wasn't placed in the same rating as modern animated kids movies, because when that starts to happen the "parental guidance" the rating is named after just disappears. If only the MPAA were actually good at their jobs lately, but oh well.
The rating system was much more different back then. This movie would get a much stricter rating nowadays, but the rating system was much more general. G just meant that anyone would be suitable for watching it, PG meant that some stuff was unfitting for younger audiences that meant parents should take extra precaution. R meant "THIS STUFF IS ONLY SUITED FOR MATURE ADULTS". Heck, even the PG-13 rating (which came around a couple years after Poltergeist) meant what an R rating means now. Take in consideration the times. Don't apply modern standards to everything.
Poltergeist is one of my favorite horror movies. But how is this PG Rated? That face peeling scene is terrifying. Poltergeist is definitely a movie that should be PG-13.
Honestly no movie should be rated g or pg unless it is focused on 5 years old, honestly taking away the movie rating system would be what we should do, or a modified system that says N for nudity, G- for gore, D for depressing, V for excessive violence, S for uncomfortable sex scene, F for extremely foul language.
A rating system that was honest
Should be PG-13 with all the cursing and gore.
How the hell, did this not get an R rating?
This should be rated R for Retarted.
Yeah I know it’s obvious, but Jaws definitely doesn't need a PG rating. Especially since it’s about a shark eating people.
This 1978 remake received a PG rating. Yeah no. This movie has some pretty gross scenes, like the scene where the guy was hammering a body, and messes up his face. Definitely not PG material.
Definitely very controversial as a kids film. Oh, I know...
Wouldn't even be surprised if this was rated R
Yeah I know it’s obvious, but this movie doesn't deserve a PG rating. This movie has some gruesome stuff, and it’s targeting kids. Definitely should of received a PG-13 rating like Plauge Dogs.
Oh, come on! I watched this film since I was 8 years old and it quite scared and concerned me a little bit, but it's not that bad though.
The heart scene and the villain gets eaten by an alligator part should have made this film Temple of Doom PG-13.
This movie was the reason why the PG-13 rating was created.
It has the name DOOM in it. It should be rated...Oh, I forgot.
I know right, it's so creepy.
You are gonna laugh when you here this. This movie has some nudity scenes, and guess what it’s rated? G. yOu kNoW, fOr kIdS!
A disaster movie about an airplane exploding, and it’s rated G.
A war movie that’s rated G. War movies should never be rated G.
Rated PG. Rated P G. That father decaying in the Santa suit proves me otherwise.
How did this movie receive a G rating? This movie definitely doesn't appeal twords kids because it’s one of the most longest movies ever. Maybe a PG rating should of been better.
Apparently I can't paste a listing I found of various scenes that are non-G. So let’s start with the one scene that kind of made me wonder (though Scarlett kinda deserved it, but then LIKED it while Rhett leaves because he’s disgusted) the famous dragging Scarlett upstairs to bed scene. Supposedly, there are 10 counts of sex and, yes, nudity- boobage was seen. Violence and gore got 14 counts. How about Scarlett’s marrying young soldier she doesn't love because she’s in love with an engaged/married man? And not so sad when he dies in battle. The cringe of know the little girl dies falling from horse. The “Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.” (I thought cuss words got something back then.). Anyway, not G I wouldn't think.
(Oops, was Rated PG)
This may be my favorite movie of all time- or rather has favorite 10 SCENES in a movie of all time (half of it idiotic and stupid: but those best scenes GENIUS) This can't be G. Looked it up.
“Monty Python and the Holy Grail was rated PG before the advent of PG-13. The entire vestal virgin sequence is filled with sexual innuendo and proposition...” (common sensemedia.org.)
Yes the vestal virgin scene for sure. I particularly thought cartoon angels blowing horns from their butts was more than stupid- off-color. British humor for you. Irreverent. Sometimes it’s hilarious, sometimes just mean-spirited.
The first Disney animated movie to receive a PG rating was The Black Cauldron. The fact this movie was Rated G definitely baffles me. This movie was released in 1996, and this was the time where ratings got reasonable. This movie should not be Rated G. There is a song about Hell, and the villain is absolutely disturbing. Definitely should of received a PG rating.
I like em big, I like em chucky.
Cars is an EXTREMELY INAPPROPRIATE film for children! Do you guys remember that scene where lightning mcqueen started shouting racial slurs at some random yellow car? Me neither, but cars sucks. Cars should be rated PG-420.
I agree, with the film's G rating it seems like a film for anyone to watch.
Eh, it deserves it’s G rating.
This was rated PG-13...
Boss Baby flaunts his butts. This needs to be rated PG-13
Oh I remember this movie. Very good, yet very cheesy.
With the number of guns, explosions, and even deaths in this movie, it should have been rated PG.
There's mild cursing and multiple sex jokes
They curse! It should've been PG-13
In the first scene a man attempts to commit suicide. Uses of Damn and Hell. Brief Scenes of men tries get their way with women. And This is Rated G. "ReRated: PG For Crude Suggestive Content and Brief Language"
