So, this list is ranking the best multi-instrumentalists. So, why is the individual who is exceptionally talented in a wider variety of instruments than any other individual in history (twenty-seven) not at #1?
Prince was more than proficient on Guitar, Bass Guitar, Piano, Keyboards, and Drums and likely I missed a few, but the ones mentioned he would be called a virtuoso, Sir Paul McCartney would be second, as much as I liked Brian Jones he should not be among the top ten, he played a lot of instruments but was a virtuoso on none, he played Piano, Guitar, Saxophone and Harmonica and could get a decent noise out of some exotic instruments like Marimba and Sitar but he never even played a lead solo on guitar only on slide guitar, I would put Sly Stone on the list.
