10 Backstreet Boys Backstreet Boys The Backstreet Boys are an American vocal group, formed in Orlando, Florida in 1993. The group consists of AJ McLean, Howie D., Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell.

I'd definitely say Backstreet Boys. They evolved the popularity of cheesy, boring, typical lyrics and rhythm. The greedy music industry then said, "Hey! This garbage is what's "cool" and "talented" these days! Forget about, psh, NIRVANA. That was so, like, 1994. There TOTALLY isn't any more ROCK. I mean, who likes ROCK anymore? Let's get MORE untalented trash bags like this! " And so, Britney Spears, N Sync, T-Pain, Just Bieber, and other crappy pop artists were introduced to the music industry. Now, music is a joke that I really can't take seriously. All the good artists nowadays are underrated, unheard of, or already stopped playing music. It makes me sad and scared, really. I worry that bands like Led Zeppelin and Guns N' Roses will just, you know, be forgotten and be overshadowed by the newer generation of music. Dave Grohl says don't give up on rock music, and I'm not of course, I've just lost plenty of faith in it. I'm tired of sitting here and waiting for another artist that ...more - MontyPython

Depends on what you are talking about. According to Kai Hansen of Gamma Ray, Kurt Cobain was the reason metal became less popular and Grunge became more popular. Those albums were more overrated. But still I won't take this as a discredit, rather I will take this as a credit of Kurt Cobain. When Elvis Presley came to 50s, he took over country music, and some blues. It's just a generation, that one artist comes, and he takes over other genres. His genre becomes more popular. Whole 70s was popular for hard rock because of Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Deep Purple etc bands. Whole 80's was popular for metal because of bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth etc. It doesn't mean they killed music. - zxm
