The Contenders
11 Uncle Tupelo

Both Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy were admirers of Neil's work, and their music has a raw, primitive sound that reminds me of his work with Crazy Horse. They've also covered a couple of his songs; there's footage of them in their very early years covering "Cinnamon Girl", and they covered "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" at their last concert.

12 Radiohead Radiohead are an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke (lead vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments), Colin Greenwoood (bass guitar), Phil Selway (drums), and Ed O'Brien (guitar).

It may not be obvious, but Thom Yorke said that Neil is a big influence on his vocal style. He remembers sending a demo tape to a music magazine, the writer saying that he sounded like Neil Young, and Thom asking himself, "Who the heck is Neil Young? ". He bought a copy of After the Gold Rush and loved the music immediately. He once covered "After the Gold Rush" (the song) on Neil's piano at a Bridge School Benefit Concert, the band covered "Cinnamon Girl" in 2004, and Thom & Jonny did a beautiful acoustic rendition of "Tell Me Why" at a concert in 2008.
Edit: Thom and Jonny also covered "On the Beach" on a couple of occasions in 2003, one of them being a soundcheck and the other being a BBC Radio 6 broadcast.

13 Meat Puppets
14 Elliott Smith

Founding members Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon and Lee Ranaldo remained together for the entire history of the band, while Steve Shelley followed a series of short-term drummers in 1985, and rounded out the core line-up.
