Best Music Genres for 14-year-Olds

The Top Ten
1 Teen Pop

Unfortunately, most teen pop is generic. There can be decent production, but lyrics and melodies often turn out to be unoriginal and repetitive.

Rock and metal music actually have meaning to it and teens should listen to something they can relate to and rock out to.

Why do I feel this list is all wrong?

Yick. Shaun Mendez.

2 Dubstep

If they've found the right kind of dubstep, there's no doubt they'll be listening again and again.
Electus' Fallen and Bassnectar's Underwater are two very different but very good examples.

I agree with RiverClanRocks. Melodic dubstep is great because there is emotion and depth.

Full of energy, amazing genre for craziness.

Dubstep is good if executed properly.

3 Dream Pop

Dream Pop is actually alternate rock, but it can have a pop based sound, but then Cuddlecore is the same, a very pop orientated sound but it is really a rock subgenre.

Dream pop is pop, but more atmospheric, usually more darker and mature. At the very least, I prefer this type of pop over mainstream, generic bubblegum pop. Think Halsey, Troye Sivan, etc.

I stand corrected, DJSchollen is right on the fact that dream pop is a subgenre of alternate rock.

4 Pop Punk
5 Hip Hop

Hip hop is the best kind of music and that's that

"Hip-hop" barely qualifies as music, at all.

Hip-Hop is a culture

6 Emo Rock

I love emo music, like heavy metal and screamos and stuff like that X)

7 Punk Rock Punk rock is a subgenre of rock music. It usually has rebellious lyrics and down stroked power chords played on guitars. Bad Religion, Sex Pistols, and Green Day (actually pop-punk, which is still punk in a way) are a few punk rock bands. The subgenre influenced thrash metal because of it's down stroked guitar playing and other factors.
8 Heavy Metal Heavy Metal music is a sub-genre of rock music that originated in the late 1960s-70s, featuring more distorted and heavier instrumental work and darker lyrical themes. Heavy Metal broke into mainstream success with bands such as Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Metallica.

Other notable Heavy Metal bands include Judas Priest, Anthrax, Testament, System of a Down, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Avenged... read more

I started listening to metal since I was 14 lol

I was already listening to Death Metal at 14.

9 Pop
10 Rap

Everyone has different tastes in Music. For me its Rap, but it really shouldn't be down to a vote, as its just personal preference. Why do I doubt that a 14 Year old made this list?

The Contenders
11 Alternative Rock Alternative rock is a style of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s. In this instance, the word "alternative" refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream rock music.

EDM is a pretty big umbrella genre though, since it includes house, dubstep, etc. Some EDM songs are fine.
