Top Ten Music Genres That Shouldn't Even Be Considered Music
The Top Ten
Modern rap is complete and utter GARBAGE. This one dude in my math class just plays it all the time, and I have to keep from cringing.
Kendrick Lamar is good though...To Pimp a Butterfly, no need for anymore words.
I feel like in order to actually be considered music, you need three things: beat, melody, and chords. Most rap only has the first of those.
Awful, Cancer, thrash. These are the words that emphasize rap. The lyrics are all about sex, drugs, women,
guns and violence. I call the people who sing these "uncivilized". So far, I have never heard an rapper churn out something that I like to hear.
I have no idea what this is, but since the name includes THAT word, I'm not even going to bother listening to it. - Misfire
I've never heard of this genre. And judging by the name of it, I'll never check it out.
The music itself aside, the REAL reason why pornogrind shouldn't be a genre/subgenre is because it's the same thing as grindcore, just with pornographic lyrics. The same goes for goregrind. They should simply be considered "Grindcore" - ryanrimmel
@visitor who asked for explanation - "Pornogrind, also known as porno grind, porno-grind or pornogore, is a musical subgenre of grindcore and death metal, which lyrically deals with sexual themes." (wiki)
However, sex and porno have never been metal lyrical themes and I really doubt it's metal. Metal bands even avoid love themes and anything sensual, let alone sex and porno. It's more punk than metal in my opinion. - Metal_Treasure
Just because you don't like a genre doesn't mean it shouldn't be a genre. - Luckys
Modern Pop Music is actually pretty good if you dig deep into the genre and find genres like Art Pop, Baroque Pop and Experimental Pop. Also, there's Indie Artist with large influences and some Pop Rock that's also worth listening to.
With that said, I do agree that most of what is in mainstream ranges from mediocre to plain bad. - CrimsonShark
You may not like modern artists, trust me I don't either. But there was a time when people like Paul McCartney and Elton John were considered pop! - higgsboson2142
All right, there are some pop songs which aren't good. But we can't just forget there were artists like Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, The Beatles. From my point of view this list focuses on fake genres. Pop wasn't originated from fake music. Plus this list isn't about worst genres. - zxm
Early Beatles songs where mostly pop, but from I believe let's say 1965/1966 to 1970 is where it would be more psychedelic and rock - Stalin
To be more specific, the term for modern country is bro-country, and yes, it's awful. It's probably the worst "music" I've ever heard. It makes me want to jab scissors into my ears. First of all, some country is good and some hip hop is good, but by all means, they DON'T go together. Second, 3/4 of everything they sing/rap about is girls, and not even in a romantic manner - just sexual, which is very degrading. This genre should've never been invented.
Whatever the heck fronts Country Music nowadays is simply embarrassing. There are some acts like The Church Sisters, Mariah McCarthy and Miranda Lambert who are positive benchmarks for Country, but when most people tend to associate the genre with Sam Hunt and Florida Georgia Line, there's a big problem right there. - CrimsonShark
AutoTune + Repetitive Music + Sexual Lyrics + More AutoTune + Awful Voice = A Modern Country Song - 12cc
Modern country is not all bad there are still quality country out there now.
In order to say what's not music, we obviously have to define music.
Several simple things may help:
1) there is musical and non-musical sound
2) musical sound is composed of structured noises
3) non-musical sound is composed of unstructured noises (we call it noise).
So we have Music and Noise.
From this viewpoint, the genres that shouldn't even be considered music, are those with the biggest share of noise at the expense of music. I added Noise Music and submitted a comment. Noise Music is a component of many punk subgenres. - Metal_Treasure
Why is Deathgrind #2? It takes the vocals and technicality of death metal and mixes it with the chaos of grindcore! Listen to Cattle Decapitation, Aborted, Brujeria, and Terrorizer. They are awesome bands - ryanrimmel
A mix of Death Metal and Grind Core? - Userguy44
This is a good genre - Brobusky
Noise music uses noise within a musical context and noise as a primary aspect. This type of music tends to challenge the distinction between musical and non-musical sound.
So this is one of the several relevant items on this list that are on the borderline (music - not music) and pretty much deserves to be in the top 5, if not higher.
Noise music is an important component of several extreme punk subgenres.
However, probably it isn't a typical music genre - I think it's a style that can be applied to different genres. - Metal_Treasure
Noise is a really important part of music for some genres, and you won't get the feeling achieved without some of it, the homemade studio or garage band vibe, which makes or breaks a band in some cases. music is about making people feel one way or another when thinking about a listener, so including feedback and noise is very important.
What’s this? - Userguy44
Deathcore simply has too much going for the genre. Most bands are either underwhelming, garbage or just too over-the-top and cannot be taken seriously.
Now, there are some good Deathcore bands like Whitechapel, Thy Art is Murder and Carnifex, but the selection is small. Unlike Metalcore which can be experimented upon more for more interesting variations, Deathcore simply doesn't offer much unfortunately. - CrimsonShark
Some deathcore is good, like Thy Art is Murder. However, Suicide Silence us pretty bad. - WheresMyGuitarPick
Death core is awesome
Death Metals emo cousin. Atrocious vocals, retarted ass lyrics, there's too much to list. The genre that scene girls refer to as "metal."
Is it too much to list or is it that you have no idea what you're talking about and run out of ideas? - RustyNail
To be honest this list makes no sense and should never have been created, it was clearly made by someone who does not know the definition of music. - JoLeKosovo
I like this better than pop rap like pitbull
That's because it's not actual music.
I think we can shorten this to just rap. - PositronWildhawk
I actually like dubstep. - Jordansalesguy2392
Just a bunch of noises. - Userguy44
Worst genre of noise
As a metalhead I appreciate electronic music, too, but dubstep is simply c**p.
I don't even wanna know what this is...
What? - Userguy44
Pornogore = Pornogrind (just synonyms).
I don't know why both are on this list as different items. - Metal_Treasure
This crap is all the same and it's terrible. Get this crap out of our ears. - RobertWisdom
Ugh! Worst music genre in the history of music and genres.
NO! Get this off here now!
Country is the best music ever
Crunkcore is a genre that mixes the vocals of screamo with those of amateur MySpace rappers. Thankfully, this musical trend died out as MySpace did. However, many of the biggest crunkcore acts from those days (like brokenCYDE, Blood on the Dance Floor, and Dot Dot Curve :) ) are still together to this day.
Think about it as the following
Mix screamo vocals, half of the time with Lil Wayne-style autotune, bad sounding guitar loops straight from the producer's DAW, add some crunk/Dirty South rap synths, bass, and drums, and some girl who dyed her hair in many colors who is singing about a bad relationship.
This genre sucks.Combining Crunk Rap,Screamo and Dance isn't really a good idea. Some bands like Breathe Carolina are good at this and do it in a proper way but then there's bands like Brokencyde,Blood On The Dance Floor and Dot Dot Curve which are nothing but abominations. This genre consists of really cheesy bands that only emo/scene kids like but everyone else hates it and I really hate it.The screams are so easy that even I can do it and I'm in middle of puberty.I'm glad this crap died out shortly after myspace did.-DarkBoi-X
How this is below dubstep?
Deserves to be №1!
Hate me, but there is good grindcore out there. It isn't for everyone obviously. If you hate bands like Napalm Death and Carcass, I urge you to give Pig Destroyer a listen, they are my all time favorite grindcore band. Some other really cool grind bands are Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Extreme Noise Terror, Terrorizer, and Repulsion - ryanrimmel
I love all types of metal, but I just found this specific kind of metal particularly hard to listen to
Grindcore is good - Brobusky
Trash - Userguy44
Somewhat similar musically to grindcore, except with disturbing themes (typically violence against women) added to the mix.
This is already on here.. IT'S THE SAME AS MODERN COUNTRY - -ddlovesyou-
Djent is a guitar playing style, not a genre. That's like naming a genre shredding. Anyway, some really cool bands have been labeled as djent, them being Meshuggah, Animals as Leaders, and Periphery - ryanrimmel
Not because it's bad, but because it's a style of playing, not a genre. That would be like calling a metal genre "pinch harmonics." - AngryByrd
I guess the name stuck and it became some sort of pseudo "genre", heh. But really, it's a guitar sound style, not something for other instruments in a given djent band. Listen to ERRA though, they are fantastic. - NuMetalManiak
A lot of people don't consider it as a genre. Some say it's a part of prog metal. - zxm
Worst &donot have music
I can't believe my eyes. Death Metal is one of the most technical (sub)genres ever and it's very demanding (requires talent!).
Great drummers and guitarists out there. First came to mind George Kollias (Nile) - his drumming technique is gonna be studied in percussion departments.
Growls also require very good technique(s), otherwise you are gonna lose your voice in no time.
By the way, I'm not sure that talent is the most appropriate criterion to identify 'Music Genres That Shouldn't Even Be Considered Music'.
Talent is the most important thing in general but it doesn't work very well as a criterion here, in my opinion. - Metal_Treasure

What about Amon Amarth?
Aw come on! Not all death metal is about gore and killing.
It's not a music genre, it's just black metal with specific lyrics.
And we can't say it's not music based on its lyrics because it's already another type of art - literature, or "poetry" if you wish. - Metal_Treasure
A disgrace style of black metal - BorisRule
National Socialist black metal is a lyrical style, not a genre. Themes include nationalism, neo-Nazism, and white supremacy.
There are some great trap songs out there that are meaningful and melodic. You just have to dig deeper and look past the mainstream, like with any other genre.
It's a mix of trash and crap!
Can we spam vote this to 1? - RobertWisdom
Get this to #1 - CommanderLudwig
Crunk deserves to be #1
Pitbull. - 12cc
Honestly, if you ask me, danger music is something you DEFINITELY should never consider music. If you think metal is "all screaming" then you should take a listen to danger "music." What's musical about someone having a mental breakdown and destroying a bunch of things in their path? Nothing? Yeah.
This literally isn't music. It's some kind of post-modern avant-garde performance art. And by that I mean it's absolute garbage. You thought black metal was just some guy screaming? How about watching a guy on stage literally just scream with no rhythm or melody and knock stuff over.
It's more entertaining to watch than to listen. - JCHOW
Why is this not number one?!
Misspelling? Hardly. I think it's a pretty accurate description for what my ears feel when I listen to rap metal.
I guess this isn't a genre, maybe it's just a group of bands from different metal subgenres focusing on certain lyrical themes.
Never heard of this genre before (if it's a genre). - Metal_Treasure
I think someone misspelled this "rape". - zxm
This one is misspelled - ElSherlock
Jesus Christ this should be #1.
I don't think this qualifies as a "genre" anyway.
It’s a type of remix, not a genre - JazzPunk
This isn’t really a music genre, but I agree. All it is is taking good songs and making them sound like ****. - 3DG20
It's not music, just a bunch of autotune.
This genre is far too experimental to be considered "enjoyable" or "musical" - Atham
I like some mumble rap, most mumble rap I can understand what they say... - Luckys
It's already on here as modern rap
Quite obvious why. Just look at the image above. You can't even understand what they say!
Let's face it. Black metal overall does not promote devil-worship, this style is, which is a small number of this. - BorisRule
This isn't a genre. - ryanrimmel
Now what is pure satanic black metal? - zxm
Screw you, future bass is great. - Atham
It's not my thing, but it it isn't that bad. - Userguy44
What Why Is Punk Rock Here? - FettiMC
Why Is Punk Rock Here? - FettiMC
Punk was very influential towards other genres. Even metal. Punk rock doesn't mean swearing in songs. - zxm
I used to like it, call it peer pressure? Of all the music of my youth, this alone I can't stand these days.
Nu metal is okay, but it's not respected by metalheads. Except for Slipknot or Korn. - WheresMyGuitarPick
While the bulk of what is considered nu-metal is absolutely awful (see Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, Crazy Town, et al), there are actually a few decent bands in this category. Ultimately, however, I would say that the vast majority of nu metal is absolutely crap.
It's awful - some music genres just don't mix.
But it's still music because it's not only some unstructured noise. - Metal_Treasure
The early metal I like, some stuff during the 80's were ok. I am more of a classic/psychedelic rock fan. - Stalin
I'm surprised that no one has bashed the person who put this here yet. Music doesn't have to be beautiful to be music, and sometimes it is. Listen to the more melodic bands, Rhapsody of Fire, Blind Guardian, Ghost, etc. - Caleb9000
These are pretty much great genres. The only genres that can't be considered as music are happy or sad metal, (I saw recently). - zxm
Metal is not beautiful! It has howled vocals, and a distorted guitar, all the ugly music instruments. It should not be music!
That's better. Rap metal is not that bad. - BorisRule
60's and 70's and the second wave is early to mid 80's this would also cover early metal songs, and psychedelic rock, and even some early pop and or glamour rock. I say this has the most variety and best sounds. - Stalin
Some say it's a standard form of rock music, some say classic rock are famous old rock songs. Like Smoke On the Water. Which is hard rock but also considered as a classic rock song. - zxm
I don't think it's a genre. Its just songs which are classic. - zxm
Classic Rock is more likely a term. - malamJONES
Post-hardcore is pretty good. However, many modern pop-punk & metalcore bands (namely Pierce the Veil and Sleeping with Sirens) are put into this category for whatever reason.
This shouldn't be called music cause it's not an actual genre. It's just heavy metal with viking themed lyrics. You're literally making a genre out of a lyrical theme.
Many Christian songs are good, it is just not the mainstream ones, the good Christian music you hear in churches, that's it really, just look for hymns those books have the good music - Stalin
While Christian rock (and Christian music in general) is typically seen as a lyrical style rather than a genre, much of it seems so derivative and similar. Many popular bands in this genre, like Third Day, sound just like a Christian Nickelback. I wish that more religious musicians were willing to open their horizons and experiment more.
Old bluegrass is the best! - Stalin
Jazz isn't my thing.
It isn’t that bad in my opinion. Not music for everyone, but at least it’s music. - Userguy44
