Greatest Christian Thrash Metal Bands

The Christian thrash is one of the most famous genres in Christian metal.
The Top Ten
1 Tourniquet

It's right where it belongs at #1. Most of these bands aren't even thrash metal. As I Lay Dying? Demon Hunter? Theocracy? Evanescence? Also Megadeth and Testament aren't Christian bands. Iron Maiden? Might as well add Deicide and Justin Bieber to this list. It's a complete mess outside the top 5.

Amazing band and to see them live was incredible. The quality of their work is amazing and it's a shame it's not more well known in secular, cause it really high quality music.

Tourniquet is the best!
Greetings from Ukraine

There first three albums pit um on the map!

2 Deliverance

Sorry, but this band has always had the edge, I'm not going to compare them to other Christian bands, but if you listen to Deliverance, you get such a feeling of satisfaction that no other thrash band will ever give because, they kill any thrash non-christian bands with song writing and musicianship. Yes bands like Slayer and Metallica are great awesome bands but, they don't have that edge like Deliverance has because of one main ingredient and that is God.

Their debut album (like the VR's) is a legend in Christian metal. Just hear some songs, and you will understand what I'm talking about.

3 Living Sacrifice

Their first two albums were thrash, and several others have thrash elements. Their last few albums have been a weird blend of groove, thrash, and death metal. So they qualify, I think.

Living Sacrifice is one of the most influential Christian Thrash bands out there. Their first album is definitely deeply rooted with Slayer influences and that is what makes it the best

They may have only been thrash for their debut release, but they immediately got comparisons to Slayer. Not bad for just starting out.

Obviously they're death metal, but still, they have more skill than most other thrash bands, Christian or not.

4 Believer

One of the few Christian thrash bands who non Christian thrashers would rate. Lyrically uncomprising in their faith and musically adept as well as not afraid to push the boat out. Could hardly be branded the Christian equivalent of... (name whatever secular band). Too many Christian bands are 2nd rate imitations but you certainly can't say this of Believer. Thought Ultimatum would have warranted a top ten slot even though they sound uncannily like Overkill.

Listening to "Gone" was one of the best Christian songs I have ever heard in my life so far. They were great back in the 90s before I was born. Should be no. 1 on the list.

1 - Believer
2 - Vengeance Rising
3 - Deliverance
4 - As I Lay Dying
5 - Tourniquet (Would be 3, but Swarming Spirits was a terrible song)

Sanity Obscure and Dimensions were their best albums by far. Love those. I think it's a little annoying when they still use the name "Believer" when they sound like they don't believe anymore...

Made a few great albums. Wish they had played for longer.

5 Vengeance Rising Vengeance Rising was an American Christian thrash metal band from Los Angeles, California. Fronted by vocalist Roger Martinez, they originally formed as Vengeance in 1987, but changed their name in 1989 to avoid conflict with another band from the Netherlands.

Their first two albums are classical in the Christian metal music, just hear great songs like "Human Sacrifice". The only thing that they did wrong, was that Roger Martinez (the singer and rhythm guitarist) led the band to atheism and them to satanism.

Not only were they a Christian Thrash Metal act, but they were doing things NO ONE ELSE was doing at the time in the Thrash Metal scene! Their a band, no matter if you're Christian or not, to definitely give a listen to

Great band and just so you all know...the rest of the band are still Christians and played with Scott waters of ultimatum in a reunion band called "Once Dead" the only one who isn't Christian anymore is Roger Martinez AND none of the members are satanists...geez.

6 Eternal Decision

I absolutely love this band. They sure get the message across. I'm so thankful for bands like this. Music is the main thing that converted me and these guys made a big impact. I was an atheist for about 5 years and a lot of things happened in my life to make me change my ways. If it wasn't for Christian music in a genre that I listen to EVERY day I feel that I would still be lost.

Great band, very underrated. Of coarse they're not as good as Tourniquet or something, but they are still a great band. I think they are a lot too similar to Metallica though, they need to be more original.

They are known for their similarity with Metallica (they vocals are similar). But, I think they have a great style; just hear some of their songs.

Like a lazy mix between cast-out Pantera, Megadeth and Metallica songs with less production. Not a bad band at all just need some spice

7 Seventh Angel

Seventh Angel has a great sound to them, but I need to find a good place to buy their albums, because I want to hear more. As a Christian they sound almost as good as Metallica. Probably the best Christian Thrash band I have heard.

Whoever said they have explicit albums must have them confused with someone else. I know them and their music is pure. Great band and deserve to be higher on this list.

I don't know who has said they have explicit albums - definitely not. I know these guys and all their music is pure. Should be at number 1 on here.

This is the best christian thrash band in my opinion. And not much preaching either, and that is good for me as I am an agnostic.

8 As I Lay Dying As I Lay Dying is an American metalcore band from San Diego, California. Founded in 2000 by vocalist Tim Lambesis, the establishment of the band's first full lineup, which included drummer Jordan Mancino, occurred in 2001. As I Lay Dying has released six albums, one split album, and two compilation albums.

Their music is awesome. And none of us is sinless so we should stop making fuss about Tom

This is one of the best band that I like. Their musics are awesome

Great band! Have their own style

9 Demon Hunter Demon Hunter is an American Christian metal band from Seattle, Washington, started in 2000 by brothers Don Clark and Ryan Clark. Although the brothers created the band together, only Ryan remains, since Don left the band to take care of his family.

Demon Hunter can't write a bad song. They have a few thrash songs like Beheaded, but for the most part they are metalcore.

Such a gifted band, but would not count it as a trash metal band. Anyway, I would really love to see them live one day.

Very good band. Just not thrash.

10 Mortification Mortification is an Australian Christian extreme metal band which was formed in 1987 as a heavy metal group, Lightforce, by mainstay Steve Rowe on bass guitar and vocals.

Let me tell you a story.

My brother and I started off on Christian Rock like everyone else, following Petra through the early '80s. Then Stryper came out and we were huge fans. Then Whitecross and Bloodgood and Bride (Bride was awesome, Live to Die was was an insane album). But still we thirsted for something more aggressive.

In 1987, Vengeance released Human Sacrifice. We went to the local bible store looking for new releases and saw the album cover with the nailed hand on the cross. We took it home and it blew our tiny sheltered brains right off. Soon we were listening to the Crucified (who we saw multiple times while living in Fresno), Deliverance, Tourniquet, Betrayal, Living Sacrifice, Seventh Angel, Detritus, and probably more that I'm forgetting. But eventually, Mortification hit the scene, and in my world, it was the final word. Scrolls of the Megilloth was so heavy, so intense, so totally metal that I felt my thirst for metal had been quenched and at that point, ...more

I don't listen to much Christian metal but Mortification's album Scrolls Of The Megilloth is probably my favourite "non modern" metal album. Its crisp, punchy, fast guitars and drums, and consistent throughout the entire track list. The vocals too are pretty killer. The the growls at the beginning of the song Terminate Damnation are some of the coolest I've ever heard and my favourite part of the whole album. that's my opinion.

Best thrash metal outfit ever. They were da thing back in the 90s. Awesome lyrics and musicianship... and that crazy logo

I've always dug their awesome music.

The Contenders
11 Theocracy Theocracy is a Christian progressive power metal band founded in 2002 by Matt Smith of Athens, Georgia.

Finally someone mentioned theocracy this is a great band that deserves to be higher in the list in my opinion expecially after the release of the new album ghost ship.

The best melodic metal that I've ever heard, including secular bands.

Absolutely Fantastic Band. Matt Smith is a real artist.

No thrash metal but progressive powermetal. An amazing band though

12 Ultimatum

Into the Pit is the best Christian metal album ever. And I don't care who you are, Mortal Stomp is one of those songs everyone should know.

I think they fit in good, in the Christian thrash/metal area.

13 Oil

OIL should by far be rated number on the Christian metal list; simply because they broke all the rules of Christian metal; never had any financial backing from their label and still sold over a million records overseas. Also; listen to the production on their first major release "Refine" and it is world class; the produciton is solid as a Pantera album; and then listen to the production of the majority of the bands listed above OIL. Their producitons are horrible. OIL took Christian metal to a higher leverl. And yes the band had Ron of Darkn Angel; but did you know that guitarist Blake Nelson used to play with David Lombardo of Slayer? And that is what influenced Daivd to pursude metal.

They sounded like Metallica so does eternal decision, judah first, thresher, tourniquet did a little but most of there songs were corny aside from carried the wounded and 4 or 5 other songs by them

Really? Dark angel vocalist? I'll have to check out. Thanks dudes.

14 Megadeth Megadeth is an American thrash metal band from Los Angeles, California. Megadeth was formed in 1983 by guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson, shortly after Mustaine was fired from Metallica. They have released 15 studio albums to date, and have gone through many lineup changes, with Dave Mustaine being the sole constant member. They released their debut album “Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good!” in 1985, but became successful after the release of “Peace Sells...But Who’s Buying?” in 1986. Their most successful album to date is “Countdown To Extinction” (1992), with their most popular songs being “Symphony Of Destruction” and “Holy Wars...The Punishment Due” (more frequently referred to as Holy Wars). In 2016, Megadeth released “Dystopia”, their 15th studio album, and recently concluded their Dystopia World Tour.
15 Bloodgood

13th place is not enough for Bloodgood. Has made many good albums. Position 4 or 5.

They are a great hard rock band, and they have experimented with thrash!

16 Repent

A true to the word band always had a strong message.

17 Evanescence Evanescence is an American rock band founded in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1995 by singer/pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody.

What? This should be in the top10!Who agree with me guys?

Their a great band don't get me wrong, but they neither thrash nor Christian

18 Detritus

British Thrash. Reasonably debut but fantastic second album (If But For One)! Check them out.

19 Bride
20 Testament Testament is an American thrash metal band from Berkeley, California. Formed in 1983 under the name Legacy, the band consists of vocalist Chuck Billy, guitarists Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick, bassist Steve DiGiorgio and drummer Gene Hoglan.

Best thrash band. But not christian

21 Bring to Life
22 Extol Extol are a progressive extreme Christian metal band from Bekkestua, Norway that was formed in 1993. The band is known for playing a variety of different styles of metal which include progressive metal, death metal, black metal and thrash metal.

An extreme Christian metal band from Oslo, Norway. They are classified as thrash, death, and progressive metal. They sing with the growled/scream vocals and have the virtuoso-epic tendencies of the aforementioned genres along with the heaviness of thrash. "Undeceived" is one of the heaviest pieces of Christian metal ever recorded and "Ember" is the perfect slice of thrash from their 2000 Undeceived album

They should be higher on the list. AILD, Demon Hunter, and Theocracy are nowhere near thrash metal.

23 Iron Maiden Iron Maiden are an English Heavy Metal band formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. The most critically acclaimed period for the band was from 1983-1989. With vocalist Bruce Dickinson, bassist Steve Harris, lead guitarist Dave Murray, rhythm guitarist Adrian Smith, and drummer Nicko McBrain. Smith left the band in 1989 and was replaced by Janick Gers. But returned in 1999, and now the band has three guitar players. The band is known for hits such as The Trooper, and The Number of the Beast, and have released 16 studio albums. The New Wave of British Heavy Metal Pioneers would gain success in the early 80s, releasing many platinum albums during the time, causing them to become one of the most successful metal bands in history. As of 2015, the band sold over 90 million albums.
24 Memphis May Fire Memphis May Fire is an American metalcore band formed in Denton, Texas and currently signed to Rise Records.

Memphis May Fire is great but not Trash Metal. It's a Metalcore band. by the way the frontman of the band is Christian
