Musical Genres that Need to Be Renamed

The Top Ten

1 Metalcore

I find this list pretty dumb. We all know what these genres stand for, so why change a name? Even if "it's not metal", "more like poser", "more like crap", it still doesn't make sense.

Only metalcore and nu-metal make sense on this list, since they contain music genres in the title they have little to do with. The other ones are basically just degrading the genres. The opinion on the genres shouldn't be part of their names.

Never mind the elitists. Soaking their pants fighting for "true metal". Professionals been playing metal for 50 years.

Hardcore is not metal. Metal is classical inspired.

2 Nu Metal

I always considered a lot of Nu Metal bands just Modern Rock. Basically anything Hard Rock-ish to me that was new was considered Modern Rock to me. Guess now that I'm more aware of subgenres I can see the differences but nah it's all Modern Rock. - cjWriter1997

What I know for sure is that the word "metal" must be removed from its name asap. - Metal_Treasure

He's just pointing out that the genre has nothing to do with metal. It fits more with the alternative rock inspired genres. - Martin_Canine

9 Alternative Metal Alternative metal is a music genre that infuses heavy metal with influences from alternative rock and other genres normally associated with metal.

To Soda Can (because it usually has little-to-zero metal in it) - Metal_Treasure

Call it "Hard Alternative", plain and simple. In addition, that used to be the original name before it was renamed "Alternative Metal".

Furthermore, bands normally labelled as Nu Metal and Post-Grunge can also fit into Hard Alternative very well. It is mostly derived from Alternative Rock with some Heavy Metal emphasis, though not enough to consider it a Metal song. - CrimsonShark

10 Blues-Rock

To trash music. Blues sucks. Heavy Metal is the best.

The Contenders

11 Black Metal

To something like 'Music Worshipping the Unhallowed Throne of Satan.'

To satan worshipping noise (joke, chill)

Dark metal

12 Thrash Metal Thrash Metal is a Heavy Metal subgenre developed during the early 1980s and an early precursor of Extreme Metal. Thrash Metal features a faster and more aggressive guitar work than Traditional Metal with shredding and double-bass drums and can range from melodic singing to loud shouts. ...read more.

Thrash Metal, that's an intense name that needs to be kept the same. - PeeledBanana

Thrash sounds perfect. Thrash metal is classical inspired.

Nah the name fits perfectly - christangrant

Just a weird name

13 Rap

Eh, modern rap doesn't sound a lot like normal rap. The genre as a whole can stay the same but we need more sub-genres like mumble-rap, trap-rap, hip-pop, thug rap, rap&b. - AlphaQ

To bar-spittin

To blah blah blah blah gangster

To crap. Jk - Userguy44

14 Country Rap

Should be called CRAP because we all know Country + Rap = Crap - christangrant

Country and rap are 2 DIFFERENT things. 1 is awesome and funky while the other one is useless and has shtt like Cotton Eye No. Don't mix things that are completely opposite. what's next? Pop Metal? - AlphaQ

@wrests-Glam Metal isn't really metal though. The most poppy metal genre is power metal.

15 Grunge Grunge (sometimes referred to as the Seattle sound) is a subgenre of alternative rock and a subculture that emerged during the mid-1980s.

People said that this music genre is oxymoron because "punk" is anti mainstreem but "pop" is mainstreem what do you think? I like this music genre

17 Reggaeton

Little to do on reggae. It should rather follow the template of K-pop, J-pop and should be called L-pop instead. - Alkadikce

18 Gangsta Rap

To gangster rap, spell it right you silly boy

To wannabe cool rap

19 Post-Grunge

One of the few here that I understand. It's very different from grunge. It's less focused on mental illness and personal crises. - JoLeKosovo

To Post-Cringe. - AlphaQ

20 Classical

The list mostly includes bad genres with great genres in their name. Here's an example for the opposite. - Alkadikce

22 Rock-Rap

This combination would become "Crap" music - Britgirl

To "Fred Durst makes my Ear Drums Burst! "

23 Blues-Jazz

Jazz Trumpets...Look I Don't Listen to This That Much And Know Nothing About Jazz So Spank Me Now... - AlphaQ

It'd look good changed to "Bluezz".
If ever I owned a Blues / Jazz Bar, I'd call it Misty's (or Miss T's) Bluezz Bar. - Britgirl

24 Post-Punk

It's pretty removed from punk. It's generally guite nothing like punk. But many post genres are confusing. - JoLeKosovo
