He began this decade by appearing on the cover of Sports Illustrated by calling Dick The Most Feared Man in the Game. That year, he lived up to the hype by being named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year and played in the Pro Bowl that year. He would play in 2 more Pro Bowls in a row in 1971 and 1972 before injuries to his right knee and then leg forced him to retire after the 1973 season. Butkus would later be named to the 1970s NFL-ALL Decade Team and later the Hall of Fame.

In the 1970s, no Raider was as great as he was. 4 times this decade he played in the Pro Bowl (1970-71, 1973-74), 1971 NFL receptions leader. But it was the 1976 postseason that made him a legend. In 3 games, he had 13 receptions for 206 yards and a touchdown. He was a prime time player in the Raiders Super Bowl 1976 season. He was the Raiders' gift of grab.

Nobody in the Raiders franchise, has this man dedicated to the game he loves and how he cares about the players more then him. As a leader by example, Upshaw led the Raiders from just a playoff contender into the most successful franchise in sports when he retired in 1981. A member of the 1970s NFL ALL-Decade Team, Upshaw opened up protection for Ken Stabler to make great passes to Cliff Branch and Fred Biletnikoff and opened up a running game that was one of the best in the NFL. Upshaw was also a part of some of the NFL's Greatest Games including the infamous Immaculate Reception and The Sea of Hands
That's why Upshaw is in the Hall of Fame.

14 Franco Harris Franco Harris was an American football player. He played his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks. In the 1972 NFL Draft he was picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round, the 13th selection overall.

Although he had his best season in 1969, our focus here is the 70s, But Danny is a man for all seasons, you see he was often called the first great player in New Orleans Saints history. He led the Saints in pass receptions in the franchise's first five seasons and in 1970 he caught 55 passes for 906 yards and 5 touchdowns and a 16.5 yards per catch. The next year, the second great player in Saints history came, Archie Manning to Danny Abramowicz made a great tandem and in that year he caught a 63-yard Touchdown pass from Manning, the longest of the year. Danny a true Saints Hall of Fame player.
