Top Ten NFL Teams of the 70s
htoutlaws2012The Top Ten

Steelers have to be #1. 4 SBs is double anyone else. The 1970-74 Dolphins had a great run and it ended unnaturally. The Raiders beat them in the epic Sea of Hands game, yes, but the Dolphins should have been right back in the thick of it in 1975â€"only they lost 3 of their top players to the WFL after 1974. Still they finished 10-4 and might have been the 2nd best team in the NFL behind Pittsburgh, problem was they lost a tie-breaker to the Colts for the division and Cincinnati took the lone Wildcard with a 11-3 record. Had Miami returned Csonka, Kiick and Warfield In 1975, perhaps they win a couple more games and get home field. Who knows? The pipe dream WFL savaged that Dolphin dynasty. It offered unrealistic riches. It served only to pull the plug prematurely on Miami. What if Miami had stayed intact and Pittsburgh lost Swann, Franco and Bleier? What if Miami just stayed intact? We’ll never know. Miami also stayed home for the 1977 playoffs despite a 10-4 record and watched a 9-5 ...more

Although they only won 1 Super Bowl they did so in dominating fashion and beat the Steelers more times than the Steelers beat them which is something the Dallas Cowboys couldn't do and they also beat Dallas in the 1 match up they had in 1974. Dallas reached more super bowls because the NFL was the weaker conference at the time. The Raiders also ended the Dolphins run as World champions therefore I would say they deserve to be in the top 3 not number 4. it would be hard to argue that any team but the Steelers should be number 1 but if any other team should be I'd give it to Oakland they had the best win percentage of the decade the best MNF record appeared in 5 straight AFC title games and best the Steelers more than they got beat by them. that's my argument that Oakland should be higher on this list than 4. although I give the Steelers and Dolphins a ton of respect.
Too badass!

Despite losing all four super bowl appearance's this team was very capable of beating any team in the league on any given Sunday, one of the most dominating defenses of all time, esp. in the early 70's, a very exciting offense with some guy named Fran Tarkenton at the helm, 68-78 awesome team, not top four but definitely secure at number five.
