Top 10 Best Non-Legendary Johto Pokemon

This is my opinion at first, feel free to vote for any Pokemon you like.
The Top Ten
1 Tyranitar Tyranitar, known in Japan as Bangiras, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.

I'm sorry but even if Tyranitar is very good in gen 2 (or gen4 if you play HGSS instead of GSC) metagame and have very high stats and a very usefull dark type) he is one of the worst choice of your Johto journey. First of, you can only find larvitar in mount silver which at this point the only trainer you need to face is Red. You can also try to catch one at the casino of Celadon in Crystal or the safari zone in HGSS but this is still pretty late in the game and its pretty hard to do so. Also, unless you have Crystal and buy a level 40 larvitar or that in HGSS you have the luck of finding level 42 instead of 15, unlike the other pokemon of mt silver which are pretty high levels (39-49) larvitar is arround level 15 and 20 (they can reach 30 in HGSS but larvitar are more rare in those than GSC) and knowing that Larvitar have a low exp rate and that it evolve into tyrannitar at level 55 and that in my gold and silver playtrough my pokemons were arround level 48 and 49 when I beated Red ...more

Tyranitar is like a one man wrecking machine. With the right moves, it can destroy everything in its path and be the best non legendary poke on your team

The reason I didn't put him number 1, is because he evolves late in the game and Larvitar literally takes an hour to find. Fantastic attack, decent defense, but bad speed.

Tyranitar is the man. If there ever and I mean ever a game with all 7 regions I would catch this guy in jhoto and bring him to kalos for the guy you see above me

2 Feraligatr Feraligatr, known in Japan as Ordile, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.

I had this Pokemon since the very beginning of my journey in SoulSilver, and let me tell you, it's just an amazing Pokemon! It has all these moves that it can learn to protect itself from electric types (for example it can learn earthquake) and grass types (for example it can learn ice beam or ice punch). When I brought my Feraligatr from SS to B2 and went to Black City, I never lost a single battle with it! Now I have a Shiny Gible all thanks to my awesome Feraligatr! (And also my Entei helped a little) You're the best!

From my experience, Feraligatr is probably one of the best fast physical sweepers you can get next to Pokemon like Crobat, and Garchomp. This Pokemon not only has BEASTLY stats, but it also has a vast movepool, which allows it to easily wipe through every Pokemon type. If you give this Pokemon a Life-Orb, nothing will be able to stand in its way. Simply put, Feraligatr is a badass Alligator, that can Ice-Punch and Earthquake it's way through anything. I would highly recommend it as a starter.

Feraligatr can destroy everything it touches. Like Heat/Freeze Miser but it's actually COOL. Obviously the best starter if the three, freezing grass and putting out fire. Teach it Surf for fire ground and rock, Super Power for Metal, Ice, and Dark, Ice Beam for Flying, Ground again, rock again, and Dragon, and teach it Earthquake for electric types. enough Said

The cool croc, the earliest starter to fully evolve at level 30!
Very good stats, learns great moves to make use of its solid attack.

3 Crobat

Not an easy one to evolve and weak when caught, but a solid choice. High stats, insanely fast and will leave your opponent confused (literally)

Crobat, in my opinion, beats them all. Amazingly fast speed, good design, nice moves.. It has a lot going for it-- terribly underrated.

Crobat made zubat worthwhile, well at least the first zubat you find because his base stat total is 535, yeah I know.

All you need to get this thing is a poke ball, a cave, and love. Now look at it it is a total beast.

4 Typhlosion Typhlosion, known in Japan as Bakphoon, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.

Amazing. Has almost no weaknesses in Johor except for Clair because gyarados and kingdra. But other than that its amazing. Its fast, got a good special attack and speed. If you want an op fire type, use typhlosion and use this move set: Sunny Day (to increase
fire type attacks and to have one-turn solar beams), Solar Beam (to get rid of water, ground and rock types), Thunder Punch (just in case you run out of pp for sunny day or solar beam but only use on water types) and Blast Burn (to do a crap ton of damage because base 150 power plus STAB (same type attack bonus. give 50 percent more damage) and sunny day (which gives another 50 percent damage)

It can get the best of three johto gyms, so if they ever make a second remake aka a third version, this will definitely be the heart of my team!

And no I'm not saying in every pokemon game my starter is the heart, for example in my Ultra Sun game play, even though I did love m FEMALE primarina, I definitely have more affection to my hariyama (no rlly now that I have completed the game all I do is spend time with him in pokemon refresh). Oh and by the way I'm sorry for getting off topic, but in conclusion how could such an adorable little creature become such an awesome creature?

Typhlosion can do lots when it comes to battling. High Special attack and decant speed helps it to be a effective fast special sweeper. A Full health Typhlosion STAB Eruption can sweep entire teams, A thunder Punch or wild charge can take out a lot of water type Pokemon,a sunny day powered solar beam can take out all off Typhlosion's weaknesses,Typhlosion can also Earthquake a opponent back, Typhlosion can use aerial ace to take out foes faster than him, He can use focas blast to take care of dark and normal types, He can learn shadow claw to take out psychic types and can sweep using so many types of moves.

Typhlosion is Under Ratted and I hope in Pokemon Sun And Moon He gets a Mega Evoulution!

Typhlosion is a pretty solid 'mon for the mattress-soiling lout he is. Terrible defense, but good Special Attack. His design is decently nifty, to an extent-- at least he doesn't look like the Olsen twins.

5 Espeon Espeon, known in Japan as Eifie, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.

Easily the best Eeveeloution to ever exist. Spectacular special attack, a wide variety of moves and the support factor makes this thing viable for any team

A great designed psychic type with a great moves such as: Shadow ball,Psychic,Dazzling gleam and Hyper beam. Perfection chose this for special attack

Espeon and Umbreon should be at least in top 3. Don't you agree, Umbreon voters, eeveelution lovers, and some of the Espeon voters?

I love Psychic types and it is a real powerhouse, plus it has a variety of attacks.

6 Scizor Scizor, known in Japan as Hassam, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise. It is a Bug - Steel type, and was first introduced in the Gen 2 games (Gold and Silver) in 1999.

The only downside to scizor is that you need to trade it to evolve, and fire will destroy it. However, its speed is not to be taken lightly, and its move pool is amazing. Plus its design is just awesome and it has a mega!

Favorite pokemon of all time. Fantastic typing, great abilities and moveset. RAD

Scizor is insane just swords dance and bullet punch

The worse god damn bug/steel, use genesect, durant, or Foretress.

7 Ampharos Ampharos is an Electric-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It evolves from Flaaffy starting at level 30. It is the final form of Mareep. It can Mega Evolve into Mega Ampharos using the Ampharosite, in which it becomes an Electric/Dragon-type.

Aside from having a mega and looking cool, ampharos is a very powerful electric type, probably the best you can obtain with only the Kanto and Johto games. Awesome move pool and great defense.

So what if it's slow? Thunder kicks major butt and Cotton Guard makes it rule out in Defense.

This is my all-time favourite Pokémon, hands down. My first time running through SoulSilver when I was a total noob, my Ampharos saved me about fifty times.

Low Speed and Defense, but you can spam stuff like Calcium to higher them

8 Houndoom

You shmucks who said that Houndoom is a Steel type.I would say that Houndoom is the best non-starter and non legendary pokemon. It can easily take out water types with solarbeam and psychic types with dark pulse. It also looks cool and can Mega Evolve

Fire/Steel... Literally a Fire type can wreck that easily.

Its he best typing and it gets great moves

9 Kingdra Kingdra, known in Japan as Kingdra, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.

Water/Dragon is a great combo because of Dragon and Fairy only being effected against it. Plus it knows Flash Cannon to prevent Fairy types and things like Hydro Pump, Hyper Beam, Dragon Pulse, Giga Impact and Draco Meteor which takes care of the Dragon problem easily.

Kingdra really is good, especially with its typing of water/dragon. It makes it really hard to get the type advantage over it, and dragon pokémon are also harder to find, so if you're fighting one a lot of the time you just have to power through.

My friend literally beat the ENTIRE Elite Four with just one Kingdra. Seriously powerful, balanced stats, not to be taken as a joke.

He is so fast and stylish...

10 Lanturn

Lanturn with volt absorb is better than ampharos. That's it

It is literally the cutest thing ever

One of the best typings for a Pokemon in jhoto if you need a surfer this Pokemon is the one

Electric water and caught early in game. why not?

The Contenders
11 Heracross Heracross, known in Japan as Heracros, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.

Heracross is amazing. It's fighting/bug typing enables it to have a larger move pool, as well as a wider range of types that it can wreck, and even though it makes it weaker to types such as psychic, the powerful moves it learns totally makes up for that.

It can use Mega Horn, with stab! It can easily battle psychic types with it and with practicals no other good Pokemon to fight psychic types at the time ( The dark type was new, so the only good dark Pokemon was Umbreon ) I'm surprised it's not higher.

So close to hitting like Scizor! The big upside is though you can obtain it earlier than Scizor. Also able to learn Close Combat, Megahorn, Reversal, Aerial Ace, Stone Edge, Brick Break and other whopping moves

He took out Gary's Magmar in the anime and fire has the advantage over bug types, plus he managed to resist a fire blast.

12 Porygon2 Porygon2, known in Japan as the same name, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.

First off this little duck is awesome

13 Umbreon Umbreon, known in Japan as Blacky, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.

Personally one of my favorite Eevee's, Umbreon can tank hits like a champ and it's simple yet effective design makes it a nice visual complinent to any team. I've gotten good results with it teamed up with Venusaur, or any Pokemon weak to psychic so that it can switch in and take the would be super effective hit.

He is incredibly strong, especially against Psychic and Fighting types because of its move Psychic.

Umbreon tops Espeon any day! And Only eevee evolution that can actually sustain a hit

14 Quagsire

Quagsire is a beast! It's typing makes it immune to electric types, and it has a large movepool. I just can't go without catching one whenever I play crystal. It's only downfall is that it can't learn Waterfall, but it can learn surf and whirlpool. So just teach it Surf, Slam, Whirlpool, and Earthquake and you've got a beast on your hands.

And just look @ that design. Shaped like a friend, 10 out of 10.

He's awesome because he is ground water type

15 Slowking
16 Aipom Aipom, known in Japan as Eipam, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.
17 Meganium Meganium, known in Japan as the same name, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.

I picked Chikorita in my first play through of Soulsilver, and I absolutely LOVED it. The entire evolutionary line is SO underrated! With access to moves including synthesis, sunny day, solar beam, and poison powder, it truly is a threat if used correctly. It's VERY defensive, even more so than Venusaur, so it can take SO many hits. It's a valuable team member and was the only reason I could defeat Lance and Red. #MeganiumDefenseSquad

Meganium is incredibly defensive, even more so than Venusaur, and deserves more credit, seeing as it can be a huge threat if used correctly.

Meganium is not only an amezing Pokemon, but it is also very relatable and super cool!

People say its weak, just because of attack

18 Furret Furret, known in Japan as Ootachi, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.

Furret is amazing. I know tons of people who love Furret. Vote Furret!

It can learn Surf somehow, its not a water type, how weird! and just spam surf if you opponent is a ghost type

Furret = Cutest pokemon which made of fur!

19 Yanma Yanma, known in Japan as Yanyanma, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.

What a disrespect to not have Yanma in the top 10 how dare you

The eyes eat the soul of you and your foe

20 Togetic

It can learn Metronome, which is like, the best move EVER!

21 Steelix Steelix, known in Japan as Haganeil, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.
22 Shuckle Shuckle, known in Japan as Tsubotsubo, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.

How was this walking tank not on the list has the highest defense and if you want it to it can deal the highest damage in Pokémon. What's not to like

23 Wobbuffet
24 Politoed Politoed, known in Japan as Nyorotono, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise.
