Best Non-Melodic Death Metal Albums
This is just a personal opinion, but I think Melodic Death Metal diverged from Death Metal more and more and now sounds like an very own steady genre and not like a subgenre of Death Metal (in most cases). So here is a list of bands, who play "genuine" Death Metal, strongly rooted in the old Death Metal sound and keeping its brutality.
ALLOWED:
> Old-School Death Metal
> Brutal Death Metal (incl. Slam)
> Technical Death Metal
> Deathgrind/Goregrind
> Death/Thrash Metal
> Blackened Death Metal
> Death/Doom Metal
Also: Some bands like Dismember are playing Old-School Death Metal with some occasional melodic parts in it, while still being a pure Death Metal band. This is of course allowed.
NOT ALLOWED:
> Melodic Death Metal
> everything else not Death Metal related
Also: Be careful with Progressive Death Metal bands. Many are labeled this way, but are actually "Progressive Melodic Death Metal" (the "Melodic" is often just left out, because the name is very long).
So bands like Opeth (who are obviously very melodic) are NOT allowed in this list, while bands like Horrendous (playing in the vein of late-era-Death) are.
Best of the best!
This album is overrated. Sure its "the first Death Metal album", but compared to albums from Death, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Immolation, Autopsy and so on this is mediocre at most.
It has its charm, but I wouldn't recommend it.
This album started death metal
Am I the only one who finds it a bit messed up that the number one choice for a list of specifically NON-melodic death metal albums is a melodic death metal album? Also, so is Human, so that's 2 times this list contradicts itself. Both of those albums, however, are my favorite albums by Death, who are in turn one of my favorite bands. After Spiritual Healing though, I feel like they certainly became more melodic.
Its not a bad album... but there are so much better and more essential death metal albums...
Incredible technical death metal! When you get to know that the band members were around 16 years old, when they recorded this masterpiece, its even more incredible!
Underrated AMAZING Death Metal album.
This is a true death metal classic! Immolation are thrashing with such an intensity in 8 songs of pure brutality throughout this album. The typical atonal and dissonant riffs of Immolation give this an extra awesome death metal tone!
Incredible release! Should be definitely in Top 10!
Masterpiece! There is nothing more to say!
