Most Original Mario Characters

Don't you feel like gaming hasn't used their inspirational characters as often as their unoriginal characters?
The Top Ten
1 Donkey Kong Donkey Kong is an arcade game released by Nintendo in 1981. It is an early example of the platform game genre, as the gameplay focuses on maneuvering the main character across a series of platforms while dodging and jumping over obstacles.

This guy used to be the king of gaming! But Nintendo HAD to replace him with Bowser, a monster! Donkey kong was cool, and quite inspirational. And when did Mario and dk become friends, when did Mario dump Pauline, when did Mario games change?

Donkey Kong was the first guy, I mean the game was named after him for Pete's sake!

2 Pauline Pauline, also known as Daniella Verducci, is the original damsel-in-distress whom Mario must rescue from the eponymous ape in the original Donkey Kong.

Pauline was the second woman in gaming! (Ms Pac man is first). But then somehow Peach came along. How unoriginal, a princess getting kidnapped and rescued by a hero!

She's a business woman in a magical kingdom where every other female is either a non-human dinosaur/fungus/turtle, or royalty.

Pauline and Ms. Pac man should be best friends and be invited to Mario Kart.

3 Mario Mario, originally named Jumpman, is the main character of the Super Mario Bros. franchise, created by the creative director and video game designer at Nintendo of Japan, Shigeru Miyamoto. Mario has appeared in almost every Mario game, including games in spin-off series as a playable character, with few exceptions including New Super Luigi U, Luigi's Mansion games, Yoshi's Island games, and similar counterparts. He is the most iconic character in video game history and is Nintendo's unofficial mascot. His franchise has grown to be the most successful video game franchise of all time.

Mario has been around longer than anyone here! So he HAS to be original!

4 Rosalina Rosalina, known as Rosetta in Japan, is a major character in the Mario Franchise created by Nintendo. She first appeared in the 2007 Mario Game, Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii and later returned for the game's sequel in 2010. Since then, she has been featured in many main-series Mario Games and many spinoffs. She has appeared as a playable character in Super Mario 3D World for the Nintendo Wii U in 2013 and is a playable character in the Mario Kart series and Mario Party series. She also has come into Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS as a part of the large character roster.

Rosalina is very unique, and original. And Peach and Daisy are horrible! I mean the same things happen to Peach and Daisy! Peach gets kidnapped while Daisy lays sports and brags. But Rosalina had a very emotional story, and lives with star babies and manages to take care of millions of them!

5 Donkey Kong Jr.

He's still around, but his name is Diddy Kong now.

No he was replaced by diddy kong.

6 Luigi Luigi, originally a palette swap of Mario named Green Mario, is a major character featured in video games and related media released by Nintendo. Created by prominent game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, Luigi is portrayed as the slightly younger, taller fraternal twin brother of Nintendo's unofficial mascot Mario, and appears in many games throughout the Super Mario franchise, often as a sidekick to his brother.

If you are the second child that doesn't get as much attention as the first born, you will symphatize with Luigi. Someone who has a hard time to get out of the shadow of his older sibling.

Luigi is adorable and he's a coward but he tries to overcome his fears every time!

7 Toad Toad, known in Japan as Kinopio, is a major character in the Mario Bros. franchise. He assists Princess Peach in the Mushroom Kingdom and will do whatever it takes to help her. He first appeared in the classic game, Super Mario Bros. after being kidnapped by Bowser and his minions. Since then he has been a reappearing character in the Mario Bros. series as a playable character in the New Super Mario Bros. series, Super Mario 3D World, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Super Mario Run, and many other games. He also appears as playable character in many Mario-spinoff games including the Mario Kart series, Mario Party games, Mario and Sonic Olympic Games, Mario Sports Games, and many more. ...read more.

Toad is annoying on the games, but he's very cute and I feel for him on the T.V. show. I mean toad is a slave to Peach. He does everything for her and she gets all the credit. I hate Peach. Rosalina is way better.

8 Toadette Toadette is a character in the Mario series. She is a female Toad who first appeared in the Nintendo GameCube video game Mario Kart: Double Dash.

Toadette is outspoken and caring. She always volunteers to help out unlike many characters.

9 Yoshi Yoshi, once romanized as Yossy, is a fictional anthropomorphic dinosaur who appears in video games published by Nintendo. Often appearing as a sidekick and helper to Mario, Yoshi is most known for his appearances in the Yoshi's Island and the Super Mario franchises.

Yoshi has always been cute, and amazing! But I hate how Nintendo treats him, I mean he's always in last place in the Mario kart game plays, um... On a Mario trailer a guy screamed 'dammit yoshi! ' And yoshi gets suffocated by Bowser on the Mario party trailers. How come nintendo treats innocent, but great characters like garbage?

10 Koopa Troopa Koopa Troopas, or just simply Koopas, known in Japan as Nokonoko, are a fictional race of turtle-like creatures from the Mario series, as well as its sister Yoshi series. They most often appear as common ground enemies.

Every character on this list has been mistreated! I mean, it's not fair! Every character here, even Pauline, is inspiring! But nintendo came up with all the other characters and ruined the whole storyline! Koopa is a common enemy, and is always strong to get back up on his feet!

11 Bowser Bowser is the main antagonist of the Mario Bros. Franchise. From kidnapping Princess Peach to simply destroying a fun game between Mario and Friends in the Mario Party spinoff series, this king of the Koopas has set up a certain hatred towards himself amongst the large cast of Mario Characters. He first ...read more.

True, she's original! More than characters like Peach and Waluigi.
