These are really good shows that have used ideas that make them different from your average anime these shows were unique in their time and some have led to the concepts being replicated or tweaked with.

1 Death Note Death Note is a Japanese television drama anime series based on the manga series of the same name by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. The show is centered around Light Yagami - a promising highschooler and aspiring detective with a strong sense of "justice".

Watching this anime was so eye-catching. Very creative and interesting, very intense in a good way, lots of action and crime, and very intelligent characters. I've never seen an anime as impressive as this one. I would 100% recommend to watch this anime. I swear you won't regret it.

Genius story line that would put a real detective to work. This show is like a strategic chess game played out on a global scale. Furthermore the protagonist is the bad guy. Simply put this show really is unlike any other show.

Greatest anime I've ever watched. I was seriously impressed by Death Note's uniqueness. It's definitely a must-watch for not just anime fans, but everyone in general

This is the only anime I find different than most other anime

2 Dragon Ball Dragon Ball is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation. It made anime popular in America and is based on the manga of the same name by Akira Toriyama. It was dubbed in English on Cartoon Networks Toonami block and still has many fans today.

One of the greatest series of all time this anime led to the inspiration of some of our greatest shows the story of a kid who constantly trains to get stronger and stronger in his fight for justice. Goku isn't all that bright but when it comes to fighting he has no equal. This show laid the basic character outline for shows like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece and Fairy Tail.

3 Attack On Titan Attack on Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese, created by Hajime Isayama, is one of the most popular Japanese anime series to be released. It was first watched in Japan during 2013 and was dubbed in English to be watched in America in 2014. It is best known for its emotional moments, apocalyptic setting, and its dramatic story line, and action packed scenes.

Real awesome. You can't get any more awesome than this show. This show is the best hands down if you're looking for epic action and story plot. Eren is such a unique and individual character as well (main protagonist).

Attack on titan has a realm and a love for the characters like no other anime. MUST WATCH

This is a show about two brothers who attempt to get their bodies back after breaking the forbidden taboo in Alchemy. Its is a show that well to put quite simply is unique.

Lol none of this list is unique but at least this has amazing story with great characters

6 My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU

A protagonist with such a mindset especially in a slice of life anime is very rare to see.

This is one of the big original animes that started the whole Spirit world craze that we see in shows like Soul Eater and Bleach.

8 Elfen Lied Elfen Lied is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Lynn Okamoto. It was originally serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump from June 2002 to August 2005, with the 107 chapters collected into twelve tankōbon volumes.

This is a show about a girl that was mentally abused here entire life and experimented on in some ways this show is very similar to Deadman Wonderland.

A show about a boy whos goal it collect all the creatures in the word and makes friends along the way this show led to shows like Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh

10 Code Geass R1 & R2

A unique combination of a battle of wits, family problems and global politics.

This is not 'that' unique but it has many interesting premises mixed to form this piece of literature

You wouldn't find another shows like this even outside the anime. Even if one probably exist, it's really hard to find the show like this because it's rare. From the narrative, the connected events, and no real main characters. In words, Baccano is a "never-beginning and never ending" tale.

Why isn't this number one? Everything about it is unique and original and especially it's characters.

Simply because of the characters and how the story is told

13 Durarara!! Premiering in 2010, this anime series is an adaptation of a light novel by Ryohgo Narita. Set in Tokyo's Ikebukuro district, the show weaves multiple storylines involving supernatural entities and gang wars. The series has garnered a strong following due to its intricate plot and ensemble cast.

Durarara has a unique plot and character developement, and will really blow the minds of all who watch it.

This and baccano are awesomely unique

14 Gundam

This is a really old anime that helped to create the idea of fighting in power suits in the anime world this show has led to the creation of shows like Evangelion and Zoids.

15 Angel Beats

It's so awesome. The place the characters are in, is the afterlife. They've organized a secret club that a girl started so she could get revenge on god because of her three murdered siblings. So, basically it's awesome.

16 Mushishi Mushishi is a manga series written and illustrated by Yuki Urushibara. It was serialized in Afternoon Seasons Zōkan from 1999 to 2002, and in Monthly Afternoon from December 2002 to August 2008. The individual chapters were collected and released into ten tankōbon volumes by Kodansha.

Although this series may be difficult for many to sit through due to its slow and calming nature, each episode provides a unique and interesting story that can't be found in any other anime.

17 The Tatami Galaxy

When I first saw this series, my initial reaction was- Why the hell are they speaking so quickly?! But then the story progressed and guess what? I loved it. The series gave 'Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei' kinda feel but it was nonetheless unique.

Okay yeah its not entirely Unique but this show is about soul reapers people that fight hollows ( fallen souls) and guides people onto the next world. While the story has evolved to be so much more this concept alone is an idea that has been touched on or tweaked by several shows such as D. Gray Man.

You have to be a true otaku to know of this anime. Nonetheless, it is the most unique animes I've ever seen, to say the least. It is well plotted and has a very interesting meaning to it. If you hold a high attention span and have a large IQ, then you are going to love this anime.
