Most Overhated Anime Shows

The Top Ten

1 Mobile Suit Gundam SEED

Gundam SEED is probably the Last Jedi of the Gundam for me. That meaning that I love it, while everyone else despises it like the plague.

SEED may not have the best protagonist (I like Kira, but he can be preachy and a little too OP at times) or the best animation. But the story, other characters, mecha designs, and (purely amazing) music are what ultimately hold me through the entire 50 episodes. (And yes, I mean 50. Destiny never happened.)

While, in terms of Gundam series, I love Turn A & Unicorn just a bit more, SEED is just a series that I will always hold in my heart. So please, just stop hating this series.

Most Gundam fans bash this and SEED Destiny but they praise the pretentious mess that was Iron-Blooded Orphans? Iron-Blooded Orphans was good but it was rather boring at parts and the ending ruined everything. SEED and SEED Destiny on the other hand both had great drama and great characters that helped an amazing story about racism, prejudice, and war going. - PerfectImpulseX

Also, Gundam SEED saved the franchise in its native country of Japan (in fact, it's so successful, that it's the best selling non-UC Gundam series of all time and it was the first AU Gundam series to get a sequel T.V. series) so if it wasn't for SEED then you wouldn't have 00 and IBO. This fact is ignored by so many people outside of Asia that it's annoying. - PerfectImpulseX

It deserves to be #1 on this more than SAO. - PerfectImpulseX

Kirito is F! #%% overpowered, overrated and gets a harem. Boring show...Only the first two episodes are good. Why the hell did I watch this?

I really enjoy this show def overhated should be #1

I liked it when I first saw it, and now I see a lot of the flaws behind it. But, despite what a lot of people say, it's not the worst anime ever. It's just... Meh. - Absolite

It has lovely animation, an awesome soundtrack, a brilliant concept, and more, but the writing and pacing marred it. - FrozenHatingPokefan

It's kind of confusing how on, this anime has a good reception there, yet on TheTopTens, it's given the Frozen treatment. Quite sad, huh? - ModernSpongeBobSucks

13 Naruto Naruto Naruto is an anime and manga franchise Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto. The manga was later adapted into a television anime, which was produced by Studio Pierrot and Aniplex. 14 Sonic X Sonic X Sonic X is a Japanese anime television series created by TMS Entertainment and based on the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series published by Sega.

Sonic XXX

People hate it just because it isn't SatAM. I have nothing against SatAM of course, it is good, but I also like Sonic X. I really wish more people would realize that the so-called "bad" Sonic games and shows are not as bad as the public believes them to be.

15 Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

If you are only into series animes, this show is not for you. It can can be hilarious (Especially in the english dub) if you don't take it too seriously. - Rue

Is it just me or does that character look like Twilight Sparkle?

16 School Days School Days An anime series was developed by TNK with joint production by Avex Entertainment, Lantis, Marvelous Entertainment, Pony Canyon and Jinnan Studio. more.

So? It deserves the hate.

Who the hell added this? But I can definitely tell you that I did NOT add this to the list and neither did DisneyFan731. But if you like it, I can understand why. I'm just glad this isn't Boku no Pico (because that anime deserves all its hate unlike the other entries on this list). - ModernSpongeBobSucks

17 Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal
18 Sailor Moon Sailor Moon Sailor Moon is a Japanese shōjo manga series by Naoko Takeuchi. It was originally serialized in Nakayoshi from 1991 to 1997; the 52 individual chapters were published in 18 tankōbon volumes. more.

Just because it's not a "deconstruction" of the magical girl genre doesn't mean it's bad, people. - Rue

19 Bleach Bleach Bleach is a Japanese anime series based on Tite Kubo's manga of the same name. Bleach adapts the first 54 volumes of Tite Kubo's manga series of the same name. In addition, 4 anime-original arcs were broadcast in-between and during the adaptations of original arcs of the manga. more.

Most people have stupid reasons to hate it.

Worst of the Big 3? This show gets no respect and gets hated on for the smallest reasons.

20 Pokemon Pokemon Pokémon, abbreviated from the Japanese title of Pocket Monsters and currently advertised in English as Pokémon: The Series, is a Japanese anime television series, which has been adapted for the international television markets.

Digimon series is very good, but people hate it just because it looks similar to Pokemon.
Okay, both end with mon, but I don't think Digimon is a rip-off, it's different. I think people should give it another chance before judging it

22 Boku No Pico Boku No Pico Boku no Pico is an anime series of three OVA episodes created by Katsuhiko Takayama. It was released to DVD on September 17, 2006.

It only had three episodes. The Manga had one page. Was this anime aired outside Japan? Its about a pedophile. If reincarnation is real its like the guy who made it was Adolf Hitler but is now reincarnated as Katsuhiko Takayama who created it.

Are you kidding? This deserves every bit of hate it gets, since it's for pedophiles. With the sexual theme aside, it isn't even well written or made (from what I've heard).

This should not be here. It deserves every bit of hate it gets. It has ruined lives, families, made people lose their lunch and will to live. IT IS EVIL! - FrozenHatingPokefan

This show just needs MORE hate! Join me, anime fans, as we find a way to create an Internet nuke to rid the world of this abomination! - Absolite

When 10th grader Yugi Muto solves the Millenium Puzzle, Yami Yugi emerges, taking control of him to help his friends. In Duel Monsters, they mostly played children's card games because more.

Watch the subbed version of the original series and learn how gruesome and well written this series actually is. After seeing it in subbed, you will never comprehend why 4KIDS decided to dub it. - Rue

24 The Asterisk War The Asterisk War

*I'll probably get a lot of hate for this* Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying it's one of the greatest things ever, but while it isn't worth me putting this on my remix of the Greatest Anime of All Time remix, let alone an honorable mention, I feel like the show is massively overhated. Let me be honest here: I've seen a LOT more hate than love for this show. Both on TheTopTens and the Internet in general. Okay, there may be fans for this show, but tell me: When was the last time you saw someone on TheTopTens say it was decent? Anyone? No? Thought so. To me, I feel like I'm the only person who thinks this show isn't that bad (although, I'm more proud to love SAO than The Asterisk War), though I wouldn't go as far as to defend this anime on a daily basis. Now I don't necessarily love it with a passion, but while I understand why people loathe and despise this show, it's gotten to the point where it seems to be more polarizing and hated by the anime community than Sword Art Online ...more - ModernSpongeBobSucks

This anime literally makes me enjoy an anime I dislike more than I want to. If you are wondering what anime that is, it's Sword Art Online. - Rue

25 B-Project: Kodou Ambitious B-Project: Kodou Ambitious

I feel like people hate it just because it's a male idol/reverse harem show targeted at teenage girls. - PerfectImpulseX

26 Erased Erased
27 Danganronpa Danganronpa Danganronpa: The Animation is a 2013 anime television series based on Spike Chunsoft's murder mystery video game, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc.

How did Danganronpa get on this list? It is extremely well written, especially the games. You bond well with characters because certain one ms relate to certain people. I don’t see any reason to hate this anime/visual novel and have spent many hours watching gameplays and episodes. If the complaint is about anime stereotypes then, oh boy, you have not done your research. The writer and producers did that on purpose so that writing each character would be a different writing focus ever time. Needless to say, I love Danganronpa

28 Black Clover
29 Beyblade
30 Naruto Shippuden Naruto Shippuden Naruto: Shippuden is the ongoing sequel to the original Naruto anime and covers the Naruto manga from volume twenty-eight on. The TV adaptation of Naruto: Shippuden debuted in Japan on February 15, 2007 on TV Tokyo. It is developed by Studio Pierrot and directed by Hayato Date.
31 F-Zero: GP Legend F-Zero: GP Legend

People hate it just because it was dubbed by 4Kids (in the west, anyway). I really enjoyed this show as much as the games it was based on, and it had potential. At least you can find episodes of the subbed/Japanese version on YouTube.
