Most Overhated Anime Shows

The Top Ten
1 Sword Art Online Sword Art Online is a series of Japanese light novels written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec. In 2012, it received an anime adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures and the SAO Project, and is directed by Tomohiko Ito . The first season is divided into two arcs known as "Aincrad" and "Fairy Dance". It has also received a second season, titled Sword Art Online II.

I am not really into SAO, probably because it's not really supposed to appeal to me as much as people who've actually played MMO's, but it does get hated a bit too much. If someone hates it and doesn't care if other people enjoy it, that's fine. But don't try to make a big deal out of it if someone else likes it. It doesn't matter.

Totally deserves first place. I know it isn't perfect, but it's actually a pretty good show. The haters just make a big deal over people liking it. - ModernSpongeBobSucks

The first 4 episodes of this anime was good then it started to get really bad and if you like this anime then that's totally okay.

I liked it when I first saw it, and now I see a lot of the flaws behind it. But, despite what a lot of people say, it's not the worst anime ever. It's just... Meh.

2 Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Mobile Suit Gundam SEED is a Japanese mecha anime television series that premiered in 2002. Part of the larger Gundam franchise, the show focuses on a future where Earth and space colonies are in conflict, exploring themes of war and human evolution. It has been praised for its intricate plot, complex characters, and thought-provoking themes. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED enjoys a large fan following and has spawned multiple sequels and spin-offs.

Gundam SEED is probably the Last Jedi of the Gundam for me. That meaning that I love it, while everyone else despises it like the plague.

SEED may not have the best protagonist (I like Kira, but he can be preachy and a little too OP at times) or the best animation. But the story, other characters, mecha designs, and (purely amazing) music are what ultimately hold me through the entire 50 episodes. (And yes, I mean 50. Destiny never happened.)

While, in terms of Gundam series, I love Turn A & Unicorn just a bit more, SEED is just a series that I will always hold in my heart. So please, just stop hating this series.

Most Gundam fans bash this and SEED Destiny but they praise the pretentious mess that was Iron-Blooded Orphans? Iron-Blooded Orphans was good but it was rather boring at parts and the ending ruined everything. SEED and SEED Destiny on the other hand both had great drama and great characters that helped an amazing story about racism, prejudice, and war going.

Also, Gundam SEED saved the franchise in its native country of Japan (in fact, it's so successful, that it's the best selling non-UC Gundam series of all time and it was the first AU Gundam series to get a sequel T.V. series) so if it wasn't for SEED then you wouldn't have 00 and IBO. This fact is ignored by so many people outside of Asia that it's annoying.

It deserves to be #1 on this more than SAO.

3 Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny is an anime television series, a direct sequel to Mobile Suit Gundam SEED by Sunrise and the overall tenth installment in the Gundam franchise. It retains most of the staff from Gundam SEED, including Director Mitsuo Fukuda.
4 Love Live! School Idol Project Love Live! School Idol Project is a Japanese multimedia project co-developed by ASCII Media Works' Dengeki G's Magazine, music label Lantis, and animation studio Sunrise.

Whoever thinks that Love Live is just lousy otaku-pandering garbage has obviously never seen more than 1 episode and deserves a little "washi washi".

5 Love Live! Sunshine!! Love Live! Sunshine!! is a Japanese multimedia project co-developed by ASCII Media Works' Dengeki G's Magazine, music label Lantis, and animation studio Sunrise.
6 Kill la Kill Kill la Kill is an anime television series produced by Trigger. In Kill la Kill, Ryuko Matoi transfers to a new high school in order to find her father's murderer.
7 Dragon Ball GT Dragon Ball GT is a Japanese anime series based on Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga. Produced by Toei Animation, the series premiered in Japan on Fuji TV on February 7, 1996, spanning 64 episodes until its end on November 19, 1997.

I don't get the hate. It's awesome

Still better than Super

8 Sonic X Sonic X is a Japanese anime television series created by TMS Entertainment and based on the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series published by Sega.

People hate it just because it isn't SatAM. I have nothing against SatAM of course, it is good, but I also like Sonic X. I really wish more people would realize that the so-called "bad" Sonic games and shows are not as bad as the public believes them to be.

9 Lucky Star Lucky star is an anime that first aired (april 8th, 2007 to September 16th, 2007) in Japan. The anime follows the daily lives of Konata Izumi, Kagami and Tsukasa hiiragi, and Miyuki Takura. The show is best known for the cute "moe" characters. The target audience is shouen.

Honestly, I never watched LS myself but I still don't think it's worthy of being in the top ten in the "Worst Anime of All Time" list. It's just a harmless slice of life anime that's not for everyone. I think there are certainly worse anime out there.

10 K-On! K-ON! (けいおん!, literally 'Light Music') is a Japanese slice of life and comedy four-panel comic strip manga written and illustrated by Kakifly. It was serialized from 2007 to 2012, and there are six volumes to the manga in total. It's kind of confusing how on MyAnimeList.net, this anime has a good reception there, yet on TheTopTens, it's given the Frozen treatment. Quite sad, huh? - ModernSpongeBobSucks

Who the hell added this? But I can definitely tell you that I did NOT add this to the list and neither did DisneyFan731. But if you like it, I can understand why. I'm just glad this isn't Boku no Pico (because that anime deserves all its hate unlike the other entries on this list). - ModernSpongeBobSucks

So? It deserves the hate.

15 Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS
16 Shakugan no Shana III
17 Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is a Japanese anime television series produced by Gainax, as well as a series of tie-in media developed around it. The series ran from October to December 2010 on BS Nittele.

If you are only into series animes, this show is not for you. It can can be hilarious (Especially in the english dub) if you don't take it too seriously.

Is it just me or does that character look like Twilight Sparkle?

Digimon series is very good, but people hate it just because it looks similar to Pokemon.
Okay, both end with mon, but I don't think Digimon is a rip-off, it's different. I think people should give it another chance before judging it

23 Boku No Pico Boku no Pico is an anime series of three OVA episodes created by Katsuhiko Takayama. It was released to DVD on September 17, 2006.

It only had three episodes. The Manga had one page. Was this anime aired outside Japan? Its about a pedophile. If reincarnation is real its like the guy who made it was Adolf Hitler but is now reincarnated as Katsuhiko Takayama who created it.

Are you kidding? This deserves every bit of hate it gets, since it's for pedophiles. With the sexual theme aside, it isn't even well written or made (from what I've heard).

This should not be here. It deserves every bit of hate it gets. It has ruined lives, families, made people lose their lunch and will to live. IT IS EVIL!

This show just needs MORE hate! Join me, anime fans, as we find a way to create an Internet nuke to rid the world of this abomination!

24 Yu-Gi-Oh! Yu-Gi-Oh! was aired from 2000 to 2004 in Japan, and 2001 to 2006 in the US. It continues where the Toei Anime Left off. When 10th grader Yugi Muto solves the Millenium Puzzle, Yami Yugi emerges, taking control of him to help his friends. In Duel Monsters, they mostly played children's card games because war does not exist.

Watch the subbed version of the original series and learn how gruesome and well written this series actually is. After seeing it in subbed, you will never comprehend why 4KIDS decided to dub it.
