Top 10 Most Overhated Music Artists

The Top Ten
1 Nickelback Nickelback is a Canadian post-grunge band formed in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta, Canada. The band is composed of guitarist and lead vocalist Chad Kroeger, guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist Ryan Peake, bassist Mike Kroeger, and drummer Daniel Adair.

Nickelback make good and fun rock music and are only hated in the US. The songs sound similar yet not the same, and to be honest: many critically acclaimed bands have songs that sound alike.
Nickelback are not the greatest band ever. But they are not bad. They play pretty good, Kroeger's voice is pleasantly raw, the songs are catchy. The lyrics are not terrible. They are simple, but they have nothing that is garbage. Personally, I think people hate them because they expect rock music to be something daring, and Nickelback aren't. They are there to please the ones that like the sound of rock, not necessarily its spirit.

Nickelback is definitely NOT a great rock band. However, they're not the worst. Limp Bizkit and Creed both exist, you know. Their song "Feed the Machine" is much better than their usual nonsense and sounds awesome.

@Martin_Canine - this is the most objective and correct description of Nickelback I've read on this site. I agree they are overhated, especially on the TopTens.

2 Justin Bieber Justin Drew Bieber (born March 1, 1994) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer. He currently resides in Ontario, Canada and is Christian. He is the son of author Pattie Mallette.

Justin Bieber is best known for his songs "Baby" and "What Do You Mean". He currently has seven videos that exceed 1 billion views on YouTube, which are "Baby", "What Do You Mean?", "Sorry", "Love Yourself",... read more

How could you not agree that he's the number one?
Of course, we can all agree on one condition. Baby and One Time are horrible songs. In fact, I'm still considering them having them on my Worst Songs of All Time remix. One Less Lonely Girl and a few other songs are also pretty terrible.
But of course, the haters just listened to those few songs, while ignoring songs he's made that are actually decent, such as Love Yourself. It literally gets played on the radio! Either the haters don't listen to the radio, or they have no idea it's by Justin Bieber.
Deal with it, 2009 and 2010 are long gone now. Can you stop focusing on the obvious?

Yes, "Baby" was terrible. Yes, both "My World" albums were terrible. Yes, this christmas album was terrible. And yes, he was overhyped. Thing is: no one would hate the stuff he does now if the songs he sang before puberty voice change were not widely released and got much airplay. If "Believe" or "Purpose" was released as his first major label album while "My World" and "My World 2.0" were YouTube-only releases, people would think that he does at least solid to very good catchy pop music. Some would dislike him, but certainly not hate him.

3 Rebecca Black Rebecca Black is a YouTube personality and singer who's infamous for her 2011 single "Friday," which was the most disliked video on YouTube until "Baby" by Justin Bieber became the most disliked video in 2012. She has also released other songs, including "My Moment" and "Saturday".

We all agree "Friday" is a mess of a song. Stupidest lyrics, and terrible line delivery. But please: time passed. She was young when she recorded this and she did not write the lyrics. Do yourself a favor and search her official YouTube channel, listen to a few of her songs and covers, and I'm sure you will like her voice. Personally, I think she saw the offer to sing "Friday" as her big chance to make it big in the pop business. She was too young to realise the lyrics are bad. And propably she was told to sing like this because the producer wanted to create a viral hit. Anyways, Rebecca Black CAN sing, and she is pretty good.

We can all hate on Friday (ironic how this was posted on a Friday night), but what's wrong with her other songs?
At least when people who have listened to more than 5 Jacob Sartorius songs and still hate him, they sometimes state reasons, even though they're quite minimal. Rebecca Black, however? Her hate is coming simply because of her identity being Rebecca Black! That's just stupid.

4 One Direction One Direction (commonly abbreviated as 1D) were a British-Irish pop boy band based in London, composed of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and previously, Zayn Malik until his departure from the band on 25 March 2015. The group signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records after forming and finishing third in the seventh series of the British televised singing competition... read more

And of course, they get called out as worst band of all time. Even when they're long gone, they still get picked on.
Yeah, I know, they can be pretty annoying sometimes, and they aren't exactly original with the BEGINNINGS, but they may have not even known. They're in their 20s, not their 50s. Those songs are way before them.
Best Song Ever's hate is also a problem. Yeah, it's nowhere near the best song ever. But just because the title is "clickbaiting" doesn't make it the worst song ever.
Overreacting... of course that's a problem, too.

You realize comparing them to The Beatles is a ridiculous comparison, right? Comparing a below average boy band to THE BEATLES is nonsensical in every way. Anyways, these guys are not very good, but they're not unlistenable. Plus, Harry Styles' solo career is phenomenal.

Like, seriously, do they deserve so much hate just because they didn't write their first albums and don't play instruments? Come on, they are a boyband, and they can sing very nicely. That's all is needed for a boy band.
Many say they are famous for only their looks, but they can actually sing, and they DON'T EVEN LOOK all that good. They made it 3rd at the Xfactor, approved by none other than Simon Cowell.
Don't compare them to The Beatles, Coldplay, Backstreet Boys. They are good in their own way. Comparing them with legends is plain stupidity!
Sto hating them for no reason at all! They are wonderful, and I'm neither a teenager nor a girl, still I mean it.
Listen to their last album, the songs are bliss.

NO.

They're way more praised than hated.

One of the most hated bands ever

The average hater only knows what roughly 1 or 2 of their songs are. Listen to Demons, Warriors, It's Time, etc. as well.
MetalWorldOrder is a great example of this. He's only heard Believer and Thunder and hates them because of overplay, which is nothing bad.
Yeah, Believer is kinda annoying, but it proves Dan Reynolds cam scream good. Yeah, Thunder is extremely repetitive, but it actually a positive message. Listen closely to the end, it encourages you to never give up on your dreams.
That being said, they have hard beats that sound different every time and same with lyrics. Stop being so picky.

7 Lady Gaga Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, known professionally as Lady Gaga, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress.

On the start of her career, she performed at an event called the Lollapalooza Festival during 2007 whereby a record label company Interscope found her due to her performance being “amusing” to watch. Since Interscope found her, she was a mastermind behind her songs with... read more

EXTREMELY overhated. She gets hate for her outfit choices, weird stage persona, and autotune. Um...first of all, she can SING. Second of all, her outfit choices do not make her a bad SINGER or ARTIST.

Actually, a very talented singer. Her outfits may be weird but they don't affect her music in any way. Learn to differentiate an artist from their music, jesus christ.

I don't really get why she's hated. I mean I'm not her fan but at least she can sing and she's nowhere near as bad as Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj.

8 Miley Cyrus Miley Ray Cyrus (born Destiny Hope Cyrus), known professionally as Miley Cyrus, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She was born on November 23, 1992, in Franklin, Tennessee, to Tish Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus. Her voice type is Mezzo-Soprano and spans 4 octaves... read more

Kinda deserves the hate. Her music and personality is downright atrocious.

Miley was only hated because of her 2013 phase (which I think was an act by the way).

Miley is trashy, but using Godwin's law (like all the Trump and Bieber examples) is also trashy.

9 U2 U2 are an Irish rock band from Dublin. How the hell the band that realized amazing albums as War and Achtung Baby and another album called The Joshua Tree... could be treaten as one of the worst rock bands of all time?

I see why people might find them boring and overrated, but they are far from the worst music artists. They even have memorable songs.

They are UNDER-hated if anything.

Get her higher. The hate is also quite ridiculous. Breakup may have been the meanings of a few of her songs, but so many other songs are about breakup. There's no reason to target ONE artist and spare the rest.

Talented songwriters, plays an instrument, no autotune, sings well live. Why the hate?

Her lyrical content is so strong, isn't that what people want authencity ?

13 Creed Creed is an American post-grunge band, formed in 1993 in Tallahassee, Florida. The band's best-known line-up consisted of lead vocalist Scott Stapp, guitarist and vocalist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips.

Her music is too good to be hated for her occasional sexual songs. So many male artists write songs about sex, Nicki should be able to sing a few about her past experiences. Especially when they have other stories behind them, like her teenage abortion and her breakup after a decade-long relationship.

Listen to the following songs: "Grand Piano", "Marilyn Monroe", "All Things Go", "Dear Old Nicki", "Bed of Lies".
And don't see her as a rapper, but as a pop artist. And as such, she is pretty fun. I like how she plays with her vocals, her use of different personas and her aggressive nature when it comes to competing with her male label mates.

Not a great rapper, but a pretty decent pop artist. "Grand Piano", "Save Me", "Super Bass", "Turn Me On"< "I Lied", and many other great tracks exist. Also, Roman is a funny as hell alternate ego and is up there with Slim Shady.

16 Kelly Clarkson Kelly Brianne Clarkson is an American singer, songwriter and children's book author. I never got the whole "they are sellouts and posers" thing. They're more Alternative than Punk and even when they do make Punk, they're damn good at it. I seriously don't get where the whole sellout argument came from other than them signing to big record label when Dookie came out.

18 Logic Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, better known as Logic, is one of the most influential artists in the rap game today. She's far too overhated, she does have a bad personality sometimes but it doesn't affect her music which is decent.

Nah, she deserves her hate. Her music is trash.

20 Billie Eilish Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell, known professionally as Billie Eilish (born December 18, 2001) is an American singer and songwriter, best known for her songs "When the Party's Over", "Bury a Friend", "Everything I Wanted", "Happier Than Ever" and especially "Bad Guy".

Not to the same extent as some others but yes she is overhated. I can get that her style might not be your taste but claiming that she has no talent or does nothing different from any other pop star just doesn't sit well with me.

21 Lil Wayne Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. is an American rapper from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was discovered by Brian "Baby" "Birdman" Williams at a very young age, and was signed to Cash Money Records, where he would be one quarter of the rap group Hot Boys. In the years to follow, he would go on to find his own label, Young Money, where he would sign popular artists such as Drake, Nicki Minaj and Tyga, and he... read more

Well he kinda deserves it, he's one of the rappers who has contributed heavily to the dumbing down of hip hop, and he also used ghostwriters and has some pretty terrible lyrics. Let's not also forget that this man brought us the abominations Nicki Minaj and lame corny Drake! He also brought autotune to hip hop, and most of the garbage rappers of today see him as their biggest inspiration. He's only overhated on this site, but everywhere else people are calling him one of the greats which he isn't.

You see, Lil Wayne wouldn't be half as hated if people, including fans, Rolling Stone and himself, wouldn't frequently exaggarate about his rapping skills so much. He is not the "Best Rapper Alive", even if Rolling Stone said so in their the Carter III review - by the way that's an album I really like. Wayne's vocal delivery is bat sh insane, and that's why I like it, and his word play is just mad. But seriously he is NOT THE BEST RAPPER ALIVE! If we're talking American rappers there are Lupe Fiasco, Eminem, Tech N9ne, as well as severa big names of the 80s and 90s that are still alive. And he is also NOT THE WORST! Listen to Soulja Boy first and then to a Lil Wayne song. Or better yet: listen to "Trigger Finger" that has both rappers on it. You'll see how Wayne is miles away from the bottom of the barrel. I hate that people exaggarate in both ways. I really like Wayne's music yet I know that he is a limited rapper yet also has his qualities that you may like or not, this is just personal preference. There are people saying his voice is annoying, which I'm perfectly fine with - personal preference. Some say they don't like that he raps about superficial topics. Yes, that's true and I'm fine with people saying that also, even though I think the way he does it is pretty witty.
But I hate those who say "eww all the little kiddies listen to this he must be the worst rapper ever! " without any further logical reasoning.

22 Lil B Brandon Christopher McCartney, professionally known as Lil B and often known as The BasedGod, is an American rapper, record producer, author, activist and motivational speaker from Berkeley, California. He is often regarded as the pioneer of cloud rap.

24 Machine Gun Kelly Colson Baker, better known by his stage names MGK and Machine Gun Kelly, is an American rapper and actor, from Cleveland, Ohio.

I don't really listen to him but it's kind of insane how much he gets bashed by most rock fans.

He is a good artist, I have no idea why everybody hates him. They just say "HE SucKs"

Get hated because of his transition to punk. And for dissing Eminem. It's funny because his new album is more sucessful critically and comercially than Em's new album.

25 Insane Clown Posse Insane Clown Posse is an American hip hop, horrorcore and rap rock duo consisting of rappers Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope, that was formed in 1989 in Detroit.

Insane Clown Posse is known for their violent and outrageous lyrics that often interpolate horror elements and religious symbolism, all of this being set in the fictitious Dark Carnival universe. The musical style ranges from oldschool... read more

Yes, they made "Miracles". They tried to make a song about something they thought is important and failed to an incredibly unintentionally funny extent.
But they also made "Halls of Illusions", "How", "Under the Moon", "The Tower", and others that are actually really good songs where they succeed in delivering interesting topics.
"Crossing the Bridge" is a damn fine rock song (just that they confused Friday and Tuesday when it comes to on which day christians don't eat meat turns it off a bit).
They also had some atmospherically spooky songs like "Echo Side", "Bowling Balls", "Pumpkin Carvers" or "Chris Benoit".
Yes, they also had stupid songs but those songs are meant to be stupid. They propably smoked some weed and went into the studio recording nonsense they find funny. But those songs are silly fun as well. Nevertheless, they are not the worst band ever and at least they have a distinctivr style.
