Top 10 Most Overhyped Things from the 1990s Decade

In memorandum of probably THE most overglorified decade ever.
The Top Ten
1 Nirvana Nirvana was an American grunge band that was formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. Nirvana disbanded after Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994. The drummer of the band, David Grohl, went on to start the Foo-Fighters, an alternative rock band.

The band was comprised of Kurt Cobain (Vocals, Guitar), Dave Grohl (Drums) and Krist Novoselic (Bass).

Nirvana is most well-known for their... read more

Meh...that's all I can really say about this artist (besides Kurt Cobain's death, which probably makes up at least half of the entire reason why they got so famous in the first place)

That, and nearly EVERY other highly regarded grunge/alternative band from the decade alone was easily at least an entire LEAGUE above them (yes, even the Stone Temple Pilots, whom many people think were just a wannabe ripoff of Nirvana)

2 CD-Based Game Consoles

For the ones that I can name off the top of my head:
GOOD ONES: Playstation (aside from completely overhyped garbage like the original Parappa The Rapper and its obviously massive library of shovelware), Sega Saturn (mostly just for its time), Sega Dreamcast (well, you know, while it lasted, at least)
BAD ONES: Jaguar (aside from Tempest), 3DO (aside from Street Fighter), Sega CD (aside from Earthworm Jim: Special Edition and MAYBE Sonic CD), CD-I (because Youtube is where the poop is), etc

3 Final Fantasy VII
4 Super Nintendo
5 The Matrix

Basically what Nostalgia Critic said; its concept, action scenes and special effects were pretty much the only things salvageable about this film in retrospect
And yes, it also leaves you with nothing BUT questions, just to add insult to boredom

6 Radiohead Radiohead are an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke (lead vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments), Colin Greenwoood (bass guitar), Phil Selway (drums), and Ed O'Brien (guitar).
7 The Elder Scrolls (Franchise)

Somehow managed to get MORE overhyped with each game

Don't even ASK me about Skyrim

8 Nickelodeon (Nicktoons) Nickelodeon is an American basic cable and satellite television network launched on December 1, 1977, and is owned by Viacom through Viacom Media Networks and based in New York City.
9 Dragon Ball Z (USA) Dragon Ball Z is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation. Dragon Ball Z follows the adventures of Goku who, along with the Z Warriors, defends the Earth against evil. The action adventures are entertaining and reinforce the concept of good versus evil. Dragon Ball Z teaches valuable character virtues such as teamwork, loyalty, and trustworthiness.

Don't get me wrong, I AM totally fine with this show being the best of its kind; I just expected a much more sophisticated kind than this, to put it lightly

10 Super Mario 64

It's very dumb that fans hyped this game as the first 3d platformer when it wasn't.

The Contenders
11 The Lion King
12 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
13 Nintendo 64
14 South Park (Comedy Central) South Park is an American adult animated sitcom created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone for the Comedy Central television network. The show is about four boys, who are Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick, and their adventures in South Park, Colorado.

South Park was more affiliated with the 2000s rather than the 90s, seeing how it only had one season before the 90s ended.

15 Sonic the Hedgehog

Oh god why Sonic

16 Beavis and Butt-head Beavis and Butt-Head is an American animated sitcom created and designed by Mike Judge. The series originated from Frog Baseball, a 1992 short film by Judge originally aired on Liquid Television.

The movie was actually pretty great in my opinion, but the actual show was "eh" at best

17 The Ren & Stimpy Show The Ren & Stimpy Show, often simply referred to as Ren & Stimpy, is an American animated television series created by John Kricfalusi for Nickelodeon.
18 Crash Bandicoot
19 Super Metroid
20 PlayStation 1

Pretty much the most overrated console of it's time. How did this beat the Sega Saturn?

21 Batman: The Animated Series Batman: The Animated Series is an American animated television series based on the DC Comics superhero Batman.

This show is so good, because it has Batman and his complex, sympathetic rouges gallery.

Batman had always been overhyped.

22 Eminem Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, is an American rapper, actor and music producer born on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Eminem has sold over 300 million records making him the bestselling hip-hop artist of all time. In addition to his solo career, he is a member of D12 and (with Royce da 5'9") half of the hip-hop duo Bad Meets Evil. Rolling Stone ranked him 83rd on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, calling him the King of Hip Hop. Including his work with D12 and Bad Meets Evil, Eminem has had ten number-one albums on the Billboard 200 and 5 number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, and 13 worldwide.
23 Titanic
24 Jurassic Park
25 The Lost World: Jurassic Park

The most overrated sequel made before the 2000s.
