However, South Korea is actually more overrated since the disparity between perception and reality is greater. Korea has recently become more popular as a result of their entertainment industry. It has created the illusion of a Korea that does not and has not ever existed. South Korea is more similar to China than K-pop and K-dramas let on. Pollution, unhappiness, corruption, racism, overworking, social exclusion of foreigners, and a generally depressing environment is all-too-familiar to Korea. I highly encourage you to read more on Korean culture and life in South Korea in order to have an unadulterated view of the overrated nation that is South Korea.
Polluted air which they blame on the Chinese, while there are coal plants all over Korea. Technology which they pretend is their own, but have stolen from US, Japan, Finland, etc. Lastly, not a free country. Bloggers are jailed, newspapers are monitored by the state, dissent gets citizens jailed.
