Top Ten Most Overrated Cover Songs

The Top Ten
1 Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley

Way over-rated, and nowhere near as good as either Leonard Cohen's original, or the awesome cover done by kd lang.

Very controversial, but it gets a little too much attention, it overshadows Leonard Cohens original...

2 Smells Like Teen Spirit - Miley Cyrus

Yes, I know it's a great song, but it's been past the point ( she's on the wild side now).

Its kurt cobin worst nightmer if he still alive no wonder he will shot himself again

3 You Shook Me All Night Long - Celine Dion
4 One Way or Another - One Direction

Stop talking about 1D please! It already has enough attention ( by the way it was originally performed by Blondie).

Thankfully, One Direction broke up. They’re better off solo, no more ripping off songs.

5 Mad World - Gary Jules

Why no love for the Tears for Fears original?

6 I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston

I wouldn't call it overrated. I'm a huge fan of both Whitney and Dolly. I'm sure, many people know that this one is a cover version. Dolly Parton wrote a fantastic lyrics but Whitney's angelic and powerful vocal made it an international superhit!

Extremely Controversial but it's on here because not many people know that it was Dolly Partons song...

7 Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds - William Shatner
8 Red Red Wine - UB40

They did a nice job with it but as the list creator said it is a Neil Diamond original and his version was equal or better thou probably less known as I don't think it was released as a single, of which he's had many.

HATE to put this on the list, but it was originally done by Neil Diamond.

I like UB40's version, though.

9 Just - Mark Ronson
10 Here's Where the Story Ends - Tin Tin Out
The Contenders
11 Word Up - Mel B
12 All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix

Bob Dylan even said this was better than the original, because it is.

Originally done by Bob Dylan.

13 Respect - Aretha Franklin

This is better than the original.

Gets a little too much praise.

14 Bohemian Rhapsody - Panic! At the Disco

People who say this cover is better than original have not heard the original version, while this cover is miles above Kanyes one, it's just a mediocre cover because they made the song sound too mainstream which destroys the art of the original and the vocals do not match the song, they sound too much like Emo/Pop Punk. The softer parts of the song are sung very weak too especially the ending lyrics after the Hard Rock part of the song. I don't like this cover because it turned the song into something it's not.

Leave well alone... only QUEEN does justice to their original song. Rob Williams' cover is bad too.

NOTHING will ruin the original but hopeless singers should not be allowed anywhere near it!

Good cover but kind of overshadows the original a little bit...

15 Sweet Child O'Mine - Sheryl Crow
16 Bringin' On the Heartbreak - Mariah Carey
17 Whiskey In the Jar - Metallica (Thin Lizzy)

I agree with this one. I honestly prefer the Thin Lizzy version (not technically the original, but the version Metallica listened to). The main reason I don't like this version so much is the production values; it's too loud/compressed and feels a little sterile to me.

18 Hurt - Johnny Cash

I feel nothing coming out of this cover (no offense to him). Nine Inch Nails version is unreachable.

Sadly, Johnny Cash's version overshadows Nine Inch Nails' classic song.

Ruined a great emotional song. Johnny Cash more like Johnny Trash.

19 Sound of Silence - Disturbed
20 Amsterdam - David Bowie
21 Last Christmas - Taylor Swift

This isn't a good cover.

22 Behind Blue Eyes - Limp Bizkit
23 It's My Life - No Doubt
24 Bring the Noise - Anthrax
25 Tomorrow - Anny
