The Top Ten
1 Marilyn Manson Brian Hugh Warner, better known by his stage name Marilyn Manson, is an American musician, songwriter, actor, painter, multimedia artist, author, and former music journalist.

Awful I don't understand how people like his awful music plus he ruined Highway to Hell so he deserves the hate he gets

The most overrated, no question about it... according to the Metal Archives he not even a metal artist...

I wouldn't say he's overrated but his songs have some good meanings instead of music today about sex drugs alcohol but some of his songs
have that but his songs are very unique

This guy is a trash...

Very overrated.

3 Andy Biersack Andrew Dennis "Andy" Biersack, formerly known as Andy Six, is an American singer and pianist. He is the founder and lead vocalist for the American rock band Black Veil Brides, and is its only remaining original member.

7 Rob Halford Robert John Arthur "Rob" Halford is an English singer and songwriter, who is best known as the lead vocalist for the Grammy Award-winning heavy metal band Judas Priest and famed for his powerful wide ranging operatic voice.

His vocals on Painkiller are godawful. It's just incoherent high pitched screaming with no tune whatsoever.

Nah he deserves his praise for being an amazing singer

I just don't get why people like his voice.

8 M. Shadows Matthew Charles Sanders, better known by his stage name M. Shadows, is an American musician, best known as the lead vocalist, songwriter and founding member of the American metalcore/alternative metal band Avenged Sevenfold.

11 Jimmy The Rev Sullivan James Owen Sullivan, professionally known by his stage name The Rev, was an American musician, composer and songwriter, best known as the drummer, composer, songwriter, co-lead vocalist and founding member for the American alternative metal/ metalcore band Avenged Sevenfold.

He was good, But I really don't know why he is #1 on best metal drummers list, Maybe just because of his death.

I just don't get how he is higher than Mike Portnoy and Mike Mangini.

He's number 1 on best metal drummers when he isn't a Metal drummer

12 Jimmy Page James Patrick Page is an English musician, songwriter, and record producer who achieved international success as the guitarist and founder of the rock band Led Zeppelin.

If Led Zeppelin is called 'Metal" than here we have most overrated "Metal' Guitarist

The most overrated guitarist no matter the genre...

Led Zeppelin is not a metal band. They never were.

I don't believe he is metal.

13 Ozzy Osbourne John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne was born on December 3, 1948. He is also known as ''The Prince of Darkness''. Ozzy is an English singer, songwriter, and television personality. He rose to prominence in the early 1970s as the lead vocalist of the band Black Sabbath. Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 and has since had a successful solo career, releasing 11 studio albums.

Ozzy Osbourne has zero talent whatsoever. He just happened to find a few talented musicians and somehow he's all of a sudden the "Godfather of Heavy Metal". There are many things wrong with this:

First off, most metal groups nowadays were influenced by Deep Purple. Bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, and Megadeth do not sound anything like Black Sabbath. Their music is fast whereas Sabbath's is slow, and their first album isn't even metal, just heavy blues rock. Deep Purple invented Metal, Black Sabbath just made it sound "satanic" (and invented doom metal, an irrelevant subgenre).

I've already said Ozzy has zero talent. Tony Iommi was the band's primary songwriter and an excellent guitarist. Geezer Butler wrote most of the lyrics and was an excellent bassist. Why aren't they the Godfathers of heavy metal? Oh right, it has to be the frontman. That's like praising King Crimson for inventing prog and naming Greg Lake the "Godfather of Prog" instead of Robert ...more

He has an unique and specific singing voice, but as people talking about him, he definitely get way too much credits...

He is a funny character and a good singer, but he wasn't the one who played guitar, bass or drums on the songs.

14 Kirk Hammett Kirk Lee Hammett is the lead guitarist and songwriter for the heavy metal band Metallica and has been a member of the band since 1983. Before joining Metallica he formed and named the band Exodus.

Honestly I like James lead guitar more than him. (I know he had few, but those were better).

Give me a break but I don't think he's overrated...

Good but Overrated

15 Chris Barnes Chris Barnes is an American musician mainly noted for his deep-throat vocals, explicitly violent lyrics. Barnes was a founding member of Cannibal Corpse before his dismissal and would later form Six Feet Under, which he fronts to this day.

Yup Corpsegrinder is the better vocalist for Cannibal Corpse

16 Synyster Gates Brian Elwin Haner, Jr., better known by his stage name Synyster Gates or simply Syn, is an American musician, best known for being the lead guitarist and backing vocalist of the band Avenged Sevenfold.
17 Dimebag Darrell Darrell Lance Abbott, also known as Diamond Darrell and Dimebag Darrell, was an American guitarist and songwriter best known as a founding member of two bands, Pantera and Damageplan, alongside his brother, Vinnie Paul. Abbott died in 2004 after he was shot by a mentally unstable fan.

Kinda overrated

18 Chuck Schuldiner Charles Michael "Chuck" Schuldiner (1967-2001) was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, best known as the founder and vocalist, guitarist and bassist of the American heavy metal band Death. He is considered the most influential figure in Death Metal, with some publications referring to Chuck as the "Godfather of Death Metal". Schuldiner died in December 13, 2001 of brain cancer, his death subsequently leading to the disbandment of Death, but has remained influential among many aspiring metal artists. He was also known for his polite and life loving attitude and openly condemned stereotypes of metal musicians being harmful and evil.

He should be a lot higher on the list. He could definitely play but not nearly as great as everyone credits him with. Death is probably the most overrated metal band ever. Their music is so boring.

Chuck was great, but many people credit him as the creator of death metal which he claimed he wasn't. Possessed are the true creators of death metal.

19 Corey Taylor Corey Todd Taylor was born in December 8, 1973. He is an American musician, author, and actor best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the Nu-metal band Slipknot and hard rock/alternative metal band Stone Sour.
20 Jon Bon Jovi John Francis Bongiovi, Jr., better known by his stage name Jon Bon Jovi, is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, philanthropist, and actor, best known as the founder and frontman of the hair band Bon Jovi from, which was founded by Jon and his pianist, David Bryan, in 1983. He is famous for his band's hit songs “Livin’ on a Prayer," "You Give Love a Bad Name," and "Wanted Dead or Alive" which were all released in 1986, on the album Slippery When Wet. Jon was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on March 2, 1962.

Not a metal musician.

21 Zakk Wylde Zakk Wylde is an American musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and occasional actor who is best known as the former guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, and founder of the heavy metal band Black Label Society.
22 Tom Araya Tomás Enrique "Tom" Araya Díaz is a Chilean American musician, best known as the bassist and vocalist of the American thrash metal band Slayer.

His voice was good on 2 albums (Reign Blood,South of Heaven) but the rest is pure garbage = wery overrated

23 Dead Per Yngve Ohlin, better known by his stage name Dead, was a Swedish black/death metal vocalist and lyricist best known for his work with Norwegian black metal band Mayhem. He committed suicide in 1991 in which former guitarist Euronymous took a few pictures of his corpse and used one of them as the front cover for one of Mayhem's live albums, Dawn of the Black Hearts.

I know a lot of metalheads like Mayhem, but they only had a few obscure EXTREMELY lo-fi demos with Dead. The reason he's loved is for his supposed crazy live stunts, which most metalheads had probably never seen. Dead was great, but people need to stop saying he was the best metal vocalist just because everyone else does.

24 Dani Filth
25 Ronnie James Dio Ronnie James Dio (born Ronald James Padavona; July 10, 1942 – May 16, 2010) was an American heavy metal singer, songwriter and musician.
