Top 10 Most Overrated Rock Albums of All TimeDISCLAIMER: I'm not by any means calling these albums terrible, but I think they get WAY MORE attention than necessary. So please don't overreact if your favorite album is on this list.... but I know that overreactions will be inevitable.
The Top Ten
Not even the band's best... hell Kurt himself and the rest of Nirvana hated this album for how polished it sounds.
In Utero is better. - Userguy44
It's fun catchy rock music... but past that the lyrics are quite average.
Personally I think "Let it Be" is worse, but this is definitely overrated. - truckturner
The most overrated "rock" album by the world's most overrated "rock" band. Also the Beatles are more of a boyband than a Rock band if anything... hence when I used quotation marks.
Lol. Sorry. You seem to have a very limited and misconceived understanding of the history of The Beatles and rock music. It's valid that for a bit they were presented and introduced to the mainstream public as something similar to the more modern "boy bands" but they were already accomplished musicians, and they continued to grow as pioneering songwriters, composers and recording innovators, yet they also had previously established themselves in clubs as a raw rock band. The initial marketing was more of a pretense initiated by what record companies and radio stations wanted. It was a means of securing a contract and breaking into the industry. They then led the drastic influx of rock's popularity, paving the way for others who were both inspirers by them and reaped benefits of their breakthroughs. What's overrated is your personal dislike and preferences - the existence of a minority opinion does not make the vast majority opinion "overrated". - Billyv
I miss some Led Zeppelin albums on this list, especially their first 2-3 albums that had many rip offs but the albums are viewed like the Second Coming. - Metal_Treasure
Deserves to be higher than Nevermind to be honest.3 Comments
I agree. Paranoid has to be the most overrated metal-related album (by the way, the album title is Paranoid and not War Pigs).
And yes, I said metal-related album and not a metal album. Because there's no single metal song on this album. The title track isn't a metal song but many believe it's the best metal song of all time (proves how overrated it is). War Pigs isn't a metal song, either, and so on.
Also, many claim this album started metal. What?! If anything, their debut album that came out before Paranoid at least had one doom metal song on it - Black Sabbath. Was doom metal the birth of metal? Not sure, but at least the debut album had a song from a genre that is still considered metal - doom metal. - Metal_Treasure
This is joke.
Paranoid was milestone of guitar music.
It gets praised like it's one of the best things to happen to music...and well that's a bit of a stretch.
I love this album, but Master of Reality is way better.
P.S. The album’s title is Paranoid, not War Pigs.
Why do you people love this band so much? They mean absolutely nothing to the music industry whatsoever.
This album isn't Linkin Park's best... and in general hasn't aged well at all.
Meteora is better - Userguy44
In my opinion it is the best LP album. In fact it's my favourite album but I respect your opinion. - DarkBoi-X
Not a terrible album by any means, just ridiculously overrated. - Joeljohns249
One of the most overrated and overplayed metal records of all time. Not bad, but compared to their first 4 albums and most other albums from metal bands released around the same time as this (Rust in Peace, Cowboys From Hell, etc), it kind of feels inferior, especially with the more simplified radio-friendly sound of the album. Still better than what we got in 2003 and 2011 respectively and unlike some people, I think MoP deserves the hype it gets - IronFist13
Yup. - Userguy44
One of the most overrated modern rock albums in existence... and in general the hype it gets is pretty annoying just like the hype for A7X itself...
The movie's release has caused another massive does of this being overplayed.
I agree that this album is quite overhyped, still topping this website's "best albums of all time" list. - JoLeKosovo
Highly perceived as the "greatest album of all time," yet I personally don't really see it. It's a good album, no doubt, but I've found myself more interested in a number of other Pink Floyd albums: Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, and Animals for example.
I think it deserved its praise. - Userguy44
Not as overrated as Hybrid Theory... but still pretty up there.
I prefer Revolver
I will probably get hate for adding this, but I personally think it's highly overrated. - TheHabsFan
More overrated than American Idiot and again while not being a bad album... is fair from their best.
Not a bad album, but in general I think they've done better than this especially with the two albums that came before it.
Not a bad album but not Metallica's best. - Userguy44
Unpopular opinion, Master of Puppets isn’t a good song as much as people claim for it to be - Not_A_Weeaboo
I like this album but admittedly it's kinda overrated.
A mix of Warp Records and Muzak collaborations. - UncleDave2703
Every Linkin Park album is overrated. Stop complaining about your parents and how "terrible" your life is, stop watching anime and stop listening to nu-metal, pop punk and metalcore and grow up.
